This was lip sync'd here and at the UNICEF concert, it's identical to the album version. The album version was comped in the studio. There are nine layers of three-part harmony, creating 27 voices. So no, it was not recorded live in one take, and it was heavily edited. But yes, there was no autotune. The most impressive part is how ridiculous their falsetto is, they're actually syncing their own falsetto between comps.

Lilly, the thing is that during the 70's and 80' we were pretty much immersed and surrounded by this type of music and super talented performers, we were lucky! and, as an old timer, I love it that you love it! :)
Why were 3 people sharing 1 microphone when obviously they could have easily each had their own? The answer hearkens back to the times of the early 50's and 60's when performers such as Bob Dylan, the Beatles, the BeeGees etc. were in the early days of their careers and had not yet achieved their later financial successes and fame. In those early years, each microphone represented a significant financial cost to them. To reduce the number of microphones that were needed, musicians would often pair up on one microphone particularly those musicians providing vocal harmonies (in some cases 3 voices would converge on 1 microphone - The 3 BeeGee brothers - Robyn, Maurice and Barry did do this quite often and are a perfect example of this ... particularly in the above video recording of a live performance in a charity benefit concert of them performing their song "Too Much Heaven" ... a masterful use of 1 microphone shared by 3 people and with stunning result!). But to use one microphone effectively in this way required practice, practice and more practice and discipline wherein the needed skill and coordination of the performers would gradually be acquired. The closeness or proximity of each performer to the single microphone would determine the needed dynamics of each voice, moment by moment, throughout the performance and in itself represented an act of choreography. It was a practice primarily from the 60's when musicians had a significantly lesser amount of capital available for the acquisition of musical equipment that was needed. But, it was an approach that actually worked very well and because of that, performers from that era, still employ it often as a preference and are not quick to abandon it. FYI.
I grew up listening to the Bee Gees back in the 70s and 80s, and you are right, music like that it's hard to come by these days. Love your reaction. ♥️
You answered your own question. It was pure music. The orchestra, the voices, the music, everything. There were no computers fixing mistakes, it had to be done right and it had to be done well, and they knew it. Hence, perfection. As a side note, in those days a person needed talent and lots of it to make it. If that person happened to be attractive it was a bonus. Today, it seems the person must look good and be young, and talent is a nice bonus. Of course, maybe it just looks that way to me.
At the time we didn't know how lucky we were with great new albums releasing every week. Now, with everything being auto tuned, we are lucky to get a decent album once a year.😢😢😢
Now you understand why the Bee Gees were so big. Their voices were silky smooth magic. I was able to grow up on this music. Heavenly (pun intended) voices. Smooth instruments. Just pure talent.

Hello Lily, I’m a Headbanger like you but I grew up in the 80s so I got to live it… And about your age I started expanding my music which you’re gonna find out there’s so much out there. I was a DJ for 25 years in show clubs, where we only played rock ‘n’ roll… The one thing about the Bee Gees a lot of people do not know, that one time they were as big as the Beatles… When the Beatles began, you were either a Beatles fan or Bee Gees fan I don’t know much of old music, but I had a friend who taught me about them who was just as big as a BG fan as he was a Beatle fan… Just thought you’d like to know
These brothers were driven from an early age to be successful musicians. Add to that their innate singing and songwriting abilities and you get musical magic. They created so many hits, some performed by other artists, I am sure that many of them are somebody's favorite song. My personal favorite -- which also happens to be Barry's favorite -- is "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart." Simply sublime. You should give it a listen if you haven't done so, already.

You should listen to Chicago. Their SUPER good too!
I was so fortunate and blessed to grow up with this music. We just took it for granted, as there was so many great singers and songwriters during the '60's, '70's and '80's. These incredible artists and their songs were the anthems of our young lives. in the music we truly felt happiness and heartache, a daydream of a secret crush. We waltzed to them in a school gym, maybe that first waltz with that same secret crush. They remind you of a friend, or a young relationship lost. Maybe it was a house party or a night around a campfire with friends. Being young, wild and free.

That was the GOLDEN era of Music.I saw them in concert. They are the real deal!
I grew up listening to the Bee Gees back in the 70s and 80s, and you are right, music like that it's hard to come by these days. Love your reaction. ♥️
POSSIBLY THE GREATEST GROUP OF ALL TIME.
Woah! Settle down there buddy...
"Greatest" always has a level of subjectivity, so there'll never be unanimous agreement. But unquestionably Top Ten, probably Top Five.
The greatest song writers of all time as well.
The 80s had some excellent music and talented singers.
It is from the 70s my dear! Saturday Night Film ❤❤❤❤
@@susanweidelt1570Don’t be pedantic, 79. They were bigger in the 80s than he 70s.
At the time we didn't know how lucky we were with great new albums releasing every week. Now, with everything being auto tuned, we are lucky to get a decent album once a year.😢😢😢
No editing. No autotune. Pure talent, and LOTS of practice.
This is actually a studio recording dubbed on top of this video.
Now you understand why the Bee Gees were so big. Their voices were silky smooth magic. I was able to grow up on this music. Heavenly (pun intended) voices. Smooth instruments. Just pure talent.
Yes yes yes .. the bee gees were ❤️❤️🤌🤌 music from that era was amazing ❤
Nothing beats family harmony. They were awesome to listen to.
I just mentioned this then scroll down to see your comment .
This performance was the Bee Gees pinnacle of perfection.
70's music is the best, period.
Nice reaction, One thing that make it seem unreal is even their vibratos are in sync.
Greatest era of music mid to late 60's through the 70"s. Talent and innovation!!! No matter what you liked pop, rock, metal had all the all time greats.
The BeeGees had 5 of the top 10 songs at one time. There will never be another BeeGees.
People are relying on Autotune and they are missing one thing
TALENT!
And the sound engineers take all the groove out of the tracks and set everything to a robotic rhythm.
My young times, first love comes back, beautiful 70 , THANKS, FEELS GOOD ! 65 old grandpa!
They sing falsetto perfectly and flawlessly. Love the Bee Gees and so happy that I grew up during the 1970s with beautiful music like this! I appreciate them so much more now. This song just makes you want to fall in love!
The Bee Gees were special. Once in a life time talent.
Thank you for reacting to that one of my favorite Bee Gees songs Barry Gibb really knows his octaves
I was born in 89 but I grew up on this stuff! 60’s and 70’s music is literally my safe place. Every song whether sad or beautiful is so genuine and pure talent!
So glad I lived in those times .
They were second to none when it came to harmonizing.
What's crazy, they sound better than any autotune singer today lol.
DEFINED my teen years. And thank you for your great reaction. You are making the right comments - normal reaction is to ask, "What have we been missing? What has happened to music??" Good job.
Hello Lily, I’m a Headbanger like you but I grew up in the 80s so I got to live it… And about your age I started expanding my music which you’re gonna find out there’s so much out there. I was a DJ for 25 years in show clubs, where we only played rock ‘n’ roll… The one thing about the Bee Gees a lot of people do not know, that one time they were as big as the Beatles… When the Beatles began, you were either a Beatles fan or Bee Gees fan I don’t know much of old music, but I had a friend who taught me about them who was just as big as a BG fan as he was a Beatle fan… Just thought you’d like to know
Your reaction when Barry hits those high notes is PRICELESS!
Any song done by the BeeGees is truly something you should listen to.
I agree with you. They not only sing beautifully, they use their voices like instruments.
There will never be again such talent as these three and the Righteous Bros.
Bee gees are the blueprint for true vocal and instrumental talent
When a man can sing and make a woman blush is gold!
Glad you found them. I'm 73
Love it
Both MUST HEAR Classics,, The Bee Gees "I've Gotta Get A Message To You" & "I Started A Joke"..TRUST ME my music lovin' sister!! 🔥
It's the 70's when artist actually had talent
"Words" - beat that.
The 60s was a launchpad for the 70s
Agree and I think the 80s was the last decade that artists still had talent.
@@robertdaone I always say Grunge killed Rock & Roll
@@lrmguitars1224and country killed music.
Three brothers that will be missed and thank God you get it/ bless you
The Bee Gees are responsible for writing 100’s of songs.
The best music came out of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s‼️ Wanna know why? PURE TALENT‼️‼️‼️‼️ It’s so rare to hear someone with just talent these days. I feel so lucky to have been around when all this damn fine music came out. Music in my house, inside and outside every single day. And my son has grown into a fine musician himself and now his 13 year old daughter is turning into a guitarist and singer and I can’t get enough of them!
They started singing in 1957 as children. You're listening to 20 years experience singing harmony together professionally.
Unmistakable sound--three wonderful voices in harmony.
My Boomer mom got me into the Bee Gees when I was about 8, I'm going to be 42 in two weeks. Barry is my Fav Gibb. That's the one in the middle with the high voice. Every time I hear this song I just lean back, close my eyes and smile. You don't hear music like this anymore. With just natural talent...No Auto Tune, computer sounds or 'gimmicks'. Just Talent. OH! You should listen to Chicago. Their SUPER good too!
@ 0:59 I think she got close to, (if not all the way to) that "gasm thing,,, 😍🤣
Nah, I don't know her but I believe she was in control all the time😂
Lilly's reaction was priceless. One of the most important and influential groups of all time. There melodies were unmatched. 🙏🥰
Technology takes the heart out of today’s music. You need real instruments and the beautiful voices of the Bee Gees.
Being young, wild and free.
they harmonized like no other.. go listen to their live stuff, nights on Broadway is amazing..even the songs they sang when they were young like 3 kisses of love., which i love btw..unbelievable.. keep going down the rabbit hole ..buckle up its freaking huge...
Love 3 Kisses of Love!❤️
Bee Gees is just one of the greatest of all time...and that's it. Wonderful, beautiful, amazing is not enough.
