  • Episode 34 - In this episode, Emily and Jason dive into the eternal battle of glass-half-full vs. glass-half-empty. Jason channels his inner realist (or pessimist, depending on who you ask), while Emily’s sunny optimism shines through. But here’s the twist-studies show the truth isn’t as simple as you’d think! Does optimism really lead to happiness, or do pessimists have the edge in facing life’s challenges? They debate, they laugh, and they uncover surprising research that might just make you rethink your outlook.

I had three kids in a span of 4 years and only ever got ONE meal. When I had a hysterectomy we’d started at a new church that year and they barely knew me and had a meal train for me. I cried like a baby at their kindness.

I found your main channel this year, Im not crunchy, live in totally deifferent part of the world, dont plan on having children etc etc... but still love watching and listening to your content! All this to say that I think you two are great and even though we dont have much in common your humour and down to earth outlook at life makes me a lifelong fan (of both of you, not only Emily)! Keep up the good work even with all those weird comments, letters, emails :)

Lol! I'm driving in the car alone and said that it should be the dirty 30. I made myself laugh and then a minute later when Jason said it should be the dirty 30 I laughed even harder LOL! Love you guys!

So good! 😂 And yes, I think a balance of pessimism and optimism is useful. 😊

Emily, you remind me so much of me! 😂
I am a very crunchy Mama too. Only I am years ahead of you...
I used to be like you in those shorts at the hotels, where i would bring my own cotton sheets and pillow etc. lol
I'm not as extreme now, but my hubby would roll his eyes at me.
Oh, I see so much of what I was like and just have to laugh!
Any way, my daughter shared your channel w me, and im so glad she did. You got me laughing again!
You two are so sweet together. Much love and may God bless you abundantly ❤

Lovely podcast episode as always. Very thoughtful and engaging. I definitely side more towards pessimism, so Jason, I can totally relate to your not-so-positive outlook and often harsh judgement of the intentions of others. It really is a hard thing to break. Also, I'm an author and I've heard you talk a few times about your own stories being on Amazon. You two seem so charming together and I'd love to read some of your work, Jason -- what book would you recommend starting with?
Emily, I admire your positivity and honesty with bringing realism into the picture, too. It's beautiful that you can always find some of the bright sides to things, and it really does come through in your sunny and often bubbly personality.
Thank you both for the hour of laughter and listening! Will definitely be back for more next week!

I've been listening on other apps. Now that you're up to date on TH-cam, is this the preferred place? I'll listen wherever, but tell me the most profitable and I'll do that! Lol

My husband said literally those same words just the other day to my kids and I when we got back after being gone a few hours- "Man it was so peaceful for the past 3 hours while you all were gone." 😂😂😂

The crunchy mom Meal Train thing is real. I coordinate them for our church and the ones that specify things like "no seed oils" dont fill up as well. I am sympathetic to allergies but get pessimistic about ideals. Part of me feels like if it isnt an actual allergy, you get what you get and you dont throw a fit. 😅 Probably need some sanctification in this area. But I often see crunchy moms spiral into anxiety and a need to control the things only God can control and make health an idol. In this economy, I am leaning into the prayer "bless this food to our bodies" for meals and leaving it up to the Lord 😂 sadly as Ive stepped away from crunchiness, Ive come to see how many of my friends can no longer stand to be friends with me and dont realize that not everyone can maintain their level of crunch purity (which you guys do a fabulous job of poking fun at). Stay humble and never forget God knows all the days of our lives! I get the desire to want to make those days optimal and sick free though!

My meal train story. My oldest daughter is super allergic to milk and eggs. So when we got a meal train every night it was chicken, rice and watermelon. For a week

I hope you see this, crunchie friend here with a video idea, technically a series.
I want you guys to make a video series where Jason files a police report for Emily for attempted murder of Jason. And then the police ask details and it starts with "she burned my food" or "she served me a dish with natural flavors in it"
obviously yall will make it funny. Anyway, hope it's worth considering. In my head it's so funny.
