I would be happy if the Girl on the steps with the luscious locks of dark hair would come forward and Identify herself. She is so beautiful. I'd like for her to tell us her life story and post pictures of her family. I sure hope she had a very rewarding life. Thanks for being a wonderful part of this song and video. The best to you.
This one is a bit difficult to judge, because the Left Banke's recording is such a long-time, familiar old friend. It kind of strikes me as something that might have played as an "easy listening" cover (played on what we used to call "beautiful music" stations).... which is a plus, in my book. It's a very pleasant treatment of an alluring, romantic tune. I like it as well as the original, but for different reasons.
Video is very well done.I've never heard this version before.Better than the Left Banke...a toss up with the 4 Tops (in my opinion). Thanks for posting it !!
At least they hit their notes, which is more than I can say for the Four Tops' lead vocalist, but boy do they ever screw the chords up. The Left Banke original is untouchable. Thanks for posting.
To me it is more heartfelt than the Left Banke's version but not many vocalists can top Levi Stubbs and the Four Tops for soulfulness (is that a word?).
+reallyrarestuff I do. I'm the lead singer. My name is Marc Black. The other guys in the Blades of Grass are Frank Dichiara, Bruce Ames and David Gordon
+marc black Marc thank you for commenting here! This track gets played at our house quite often, and it has been discussed a couple of times on the Forgotten Hits website. This is such a wonderful treatment of this classic song.
Wow... they plunged a great song into a state of mediocrity by bastardizing the chords. It wasn’t broken, but they fixed it anyway. Nice vocals, still. Thanks for posting.
Good point. Agreed. Just listening to it again...very moving, superb harmonies. Great pictures as well. I like the video very much.

I don't think it was intended to surpass the original but it is a great tune in its own merit.

The guitar intro is great. I'd like to hear the whole song played that way.
Thanks for the view and it is a nice version. Again as is with most of these groups, had it been promoted better who knows?

I knew there were more geniuses like me out there somewhere. Thanks for viewing.
I seem to be obsessed with this song. Has anyone heard a well recorded, acoustic version that they particularly like?
Little late to the party but Marshall Crenshaw did a great acoustic version on his Welcome To My Job love lp
Garageband66, I agree 100% on your description of this song. It's an interesting cover.
Everyone always wants to know who the girls are in the videos but I can tell you, she is a Renee.
I can understand the words to this version. It's spoken, not mumbled.

Yes, Levi sings this song incredibly well. Steve Caro’s original with the LB has a beautifully haunting baroque quality to it.
I hadn't ever heard this cover before. Not bad at all.
My favourite version by far is by The Truth
Great rendition. Who is the girl in the video with those luscious locks of dark hair. So beautiful.
Nice cover, but no cover approaches the haunting vocals and overall arrangement of the Left Banke's original.
this is pretty dull , over orchestrated and cluttered sounding , kindofa flop . the Arrows did it well
Who is the lead singer on this recording ? Who has the real names of the guys playing and singing under this band name?

A pretty nice version, but the vocal isn't as plaintive as the original.
