I just mowed my parents front yard with this mower today. They have had it since it was brand new like 15 plus years ago, It's in amazing shape also. They went from the John Deere 14SB which they have also had since it was brand new many years before the JX75 was made. The 14SB axle went out and they are super expensive to replace. They still have it it broken and like i said, the JX75 is one of the best mowers i have ever used, hands down. I use a Honda HRR216 that is also 12 to 13 years old and still runs amazing and cuts amazing, use it every day in my lawn business, but the 14SB and JX75 are just superior mowers! I want a 14SB or a JX75 so bad..lol.
I have three of these. Two 14se's. A jx75 and je75. And all in perfect shape. And the electric starts work perfectly. Will out work the new mowers of today. HANDS DOWN!!!!!!
You'll eventually have problems with the blade-engage lever (internal parts "wear rounded") and it's not uncommon for the drive/clutch to get fussy over time and need work. That said, I've had mine for 15 yrs. I put gas treatment in it for winter storage and use a JD tune up kit every other year (or two...or, ahem, three). That's it. Best mower I've owned or likely ever will. Starts first pull every time, Kawasaki engine is bulletproof. I took it in for a Deere dealer service at a the 14 yr mark; before I even explained what I wanted, the service guy asked me how much I'd sell it for. Yeah, they're that good. And no, they don't make them like this anymore; haven't for a long time.
I had a briggs one in storage for a couple of years, got some 1 year old or so gas for it and it started first pull after priming it, they really are good
@@kanyeeastlolz lol Yes, actually. Paint finally started to peel off, and I'm on probably my 4th or 5th set of wheels, but yeah, still starts up fine and runs smooth.
I've owned 2 14SB mowers and a JX75 which I'm still using today. Bought it new in 2002. Had carb issues one season but think I finally got them ironed out and it's mowing just fine again. Wish I had another one of these in storage! lol...
SuperDave21 I have three JX75's and one 14SB. The 14SB is torn down and needs to be rebuilt, but the JX75's are all running great. These are some the best 21" mowers ever built.
I own one of this but i converted it to a electric start mower since i had an engine from 14SE deck was no good. Now the clutch was no good so i made it into a old school mower where u would kill the engine with the throttle control just like the old days by the way. Nice mower.
Eric just picked up a 14sb. The big bolt for the tension spring plate on the blade clutch broke off at the engine block. Clutch disc gone completely too. Did anyone figure out about the blade adapter clutch bypass from a few years back? Thank You from Florida.
I have the same model and have excessive vibration when running, when I engage the clutch, vibration goes away and is smooth as silk. I thought the clutch was bad, spent $160.00 on a new one and it does the same. Major vibration with teh clutch not engaged. I may rip it out and run the blade direct.
lmr839 by any chance did you verify the bolts holding the engine to the deck are all secure and the engine shaft is straight (which you can check by rotating the blade by hand with the spark plug disconnected).
Highly likely your crank is bent, verify by slowly spinning the blade with the mower on its side and watch the whole assembly. If it moves out of center, your crank it bent.
@@nvdubs The problem was the bearing on the bladed engagement clutch and blade were bad. Changed it and it got much better, then I solved the problem completely ....I bought a Honda.
I said predecessor of the 14SB in the video - I meant to say successor of the 14SB. I corrected myself in the video description above. I was too lazy to re-shoot the video to fix it.
Erik Asquith Sorry- didn't catch that part, forgive me. Great mower, I have one like it. If you are ever surfing check out www.mytractorforum.com in the "walk behind" section. A lot of great mowers there. Nice video though-thanks for sharing. You keep that mower in good shape.!!
+Steven B yes she's a beauty - I've yet to find another one in near mint condition. I ended up keeping this one for my mother to cut her lawn. I picked up another JX75 for myself about two months ago and it's in excellent condition. I use the JX75 in conjunction with my Honda HRX. I find the JX75 to cut and bag leaps and bounds better then the Honda. However, the Honda does mulch and shred leaves better.
+Erik Asquith Couldn't agree more. Honda bagging benefit is that it cuts it smaller, but Deere bags the best. I have both, HRX217HYA and a John Deere 14SB, which is unfortunately in the shop right now because the base cover cracked when changing the oil 2 weeks ago. Hopefully it is fixed this week. I'm soon to have a 14SE too that I won at auction that I will fix up for myself.
@@ErikAsquith I just wanna know what they were new, right from dealer, etc. Oil filter version with functional electric start is a little more hard to find these days
NvDubs250 there are few JE75’s Gen 1 (with electric start and battery) when compared JX75’s Gen1 or 2 (withOUT electric start and battery). The oil filter kit can be added to either. However, the JX85 is even rarer and includes the oil filter kit, steel wheels, steel height adjuster slots on the deck, etc., but withOUT the electric start and battery. I happen to have all of them with the exclusion of the JE75 Gen 1 (there is no Gen 2) - I will probably to a comparison video one day.
The oil filter is an optional add-on for the JX75 and JE75 models. Mine does not have one. However, the oil filter had been included on the JX85 model, which has some design changes to make it a commercial model.
Just got done mowing with this model, bought it in ‘98 starts first pull every time.

Yes...I had to remove the engine to install the new clutch, I re installed them with an impact ratchet. The engine is in tight.
If you happen to take some video of the issue and post it I'd be happy to have a look if you would like a second opinion.

It's actually not a predecessor to the 14SB.... The JX75 is the last model made following the 14SB.

Anyone know what the price was of these new? I have a JE75 with oil filter and electric start my grandpa bought new and was curious.

what kind of oil should I use for when I do an oil change?
J&R Contracting I use 10w30 here in the northeast. I typically use Mobil 1 full synthetic in my equipment.
Erik Asquith ok thanks I Live in the north east too. thanks again!
Erik Asquith you just got mine running the other day!! all she needed was a new spark plug. Now she is awaiting new carb bolts and an air filter
J&R Contracting was the engine not firing at all? Or was it running rough until you changed out the spark plug?
Erik Asquith she wasn't running at all untill I changed the spark plug
