Worked with a chef just like this. I once counted 18 half drunk bottles of beer after a service. One hidden at every station so there was always one near by. I loved that place until they went bankrupt.

Gordon’s brother is unfortunately a heroin addict. So he knows the pain of seeing someone fall down the pit of addiction.
He does act like a bastard but only because that person needs a bit of tough love.

It's already a pressured environment. It's heart breaking to see the first foh shift start and finish then you see them go home, the second shift starting and you're only half way through your day withe busiest period about to start. No wonder chefs and kp's seek solace in vice.

I left the restaurant industry because of drug use and alcohol use 15 years ago. Unfortunately for me my life is such that I am now back in the restaurant business I love serving people I love being a server I've had so many jobs in my life and I just left this one the most. I have numerous certificates and degrees and numerous things but I actually love serving people food it's just awesome. Guess what guys I'm probably an alcoholic again after only 10 weeks at being where I work??? If you're in the restaurant industry trust me you're doing drugs or drinking your on opiates shooting up heroin some f***** up with you because people are f***** up and they make us that way. @Rata 4U it depends on the job. Sometimes a sip here and there can make you better at what you do, more relaxed. Had he drunk a beer or two throughout the whole shift, to keep hydrated and stay calm, I wouldn't hold it against him. All bar owners drink a bit while working. How much they drink is the real dealbreaker, just like a glass of wine is healthy but ten aren't.
Also, drinking is fun. That's why people do it. You may not like it, or choose not to do it, but chemically it's fun. Just like an adrenaline rush from riding a motorbike is fun, but most people wouldn't do it because they're scared. To each their own.
I actually remember when my grandma past away after I spent 6 months looking after her and she then spent another 6 months in a care home (the best in our area) and when she past on boxing day 2015 I was really in pain I actually used to drink so much cola just to hide the pain (I was 15) it's not the same as alcohol but I know what it's like to drink to cope with loss in a small way
@@arbetor12 coke is full of sugar, which is even more addictive than alcohol. Many people binge eat to cope with emotions, because junk food gives you a rush of dopamine which makes you feel good. Of course it's different from alcohol, alcohol can take you away from reality. But all addictions and coping mechanisms work similarly.

One thing I love about Gordon Ramsey is, despite all the shoutiness, at the end, you can hear genuine concern in his voice when he says "Then why are you doing this to yourself?" The man may put on an angry person but deep down he's a fairly gentle person.
The fact that he cares about the drinking is so cute. He doesn’t just want the restaurant to succeed, but also the head chef. He’s seen enough chefs go down that route, and does what he can to stop any more.

I used to work in a restaurant with the same type of boss. He would on average drink 84 beers and about 18 bottles of vodka every night. One night in particular he had 109 beers and 32 bottles of vodka. May I add that these were only 4 hour shifts.

Coming from a production stand-point, if you notice in the thumbnail the fellow with the bottle drinking (the chef with drinking habits) is in perfect lighting and perfect position for an up close shot of him drinking out the bottle. Not that the show is faked but...alot of these things are exaggerated, and directed to look worse than it is.

Worked as a line cook for a few years during my twenties, made lots of great friends and met some great people but so many have drinking problems, including myself.
I really enjoy these kind of highlight of Gordon Ramsey's show 'Kitchen Nightmares'.

I worked with this chef before. I was also friends with his daughter Lexi. He was never like this, Mike was a good head chef and taught me a lot. Where we worked together, barely any food was sent back. The editors just try to make him look bad. And never have I once saw him drinking on the job.
