I guess u can say the whole world. But I think this idea seems foreign to the guest and by foreign to the guest, I mean the people of her age grp as well, so can't really say the whole world here. Also, I'm not that well equipped in customs and tradition of our culture, let alone others, so was saying this purely from an Indian perspective who have grown around these things, I guess. Will try to be well-informed next time before I comment ✌️

@@abhi-_- There are many reasons why people go for arranged marriage, someone could have taken career as priority and might not have ventured out to seeing anyone, somebody must be having aged parents at home and might not have had time, somebody might have actually loved and have had a heart break and might just go for arranged marriage. somebody might be a widower or a divorcee and it might be his second marriage and if he/she is a parent they might not have had time. There is no perfect way, love marriage or arranged marriage can be as beautiful as any or just as messed up

YES, but guy's side has more leverage (especially in rural settings)... and my parents didnt get to choose... And I think the reason why most Indians (who dont live in tier 1 cities) dont do dating much and mostly remain virgin until getting married is because they know its hard to remain bachelor in India than getting married...

@@Orion-x7x to be honest, I don't know, but one thing i do know is that everything in our indian culture has some logical and scientific meaning behind it, something that was started for our own well-being, but we just forget the meaning over time.

Listen woman we have way less divorces and single parents than the western world . So, there is definitely something wrong with your dating system.
It is probably because of divorce in India is considered more of a taboo than an individual's decision.
divorce is better than a toxic relationship. divorce rates do not indicate anything.
With the employment level of women in India being what it is, most women are forced to endure highly abusive marriages as they do not have anywhere to go with no income to sustain themselves. In contrast, more women in countries like UK are choosing to stay single where women are being more employable than men in recent years.
Many marriages are just about dragging their relationship just for the sake of society ,if society becomes more concerned about the individual than the age old culture then everyone would be signing those divorce papers. And also the depression rate among women of india is highest in the world . The most probable reason being the toxic marriages which suffocates them coz they don't have any way out from it.
Agreed that a divorce is better than a toxic relationship....but what some of my friends in US have told me how divorce happens on ego...rather than trying to compromise on small issues...people just destroy their relationship and the mental trauma that kids have to go through is something to take notice...

From what I have seen in Indian cinema, it looks like arranged marriage is comparable to the western dating scene in that it is a spectrum. Some parents try to effectively do forced marriages, and might succeed because of docility,social pressure, or poverty on the woman's part, or might have it fail because the children are independent( by nature or by ability to refuse ). The other end of the spectrum seems to be those who allow their children to do the choosing, with minimal supervision. It seems to me, if you have a spectrum from forced marriage to dating to drunken Las Vegas weddings, the west and the east do actually meet in the center, if you consider "recent" western trends like the whole purity movement of the late 90's and early 00's. So movie-wise, that spectrum might look like: Swades(child forced), Dum Laga Ke Haisha(adult forced), Raja Rana(rejected dating and socially forced), Just Married:Marriage was only the Beginning (parents choose and child reluctantly consents), Vivah (the parent's dream , where the parents choose and child consents), and (skipping a lot for sake of space) 2 States (love marriage). An article in the last decade pointed out that the more educated an Indian woman was the longer an arranged marriage search would take and attributed that to the power education gave her. What do you guys think? Eager to hear!

India divorce rate (1%) is enough to show why Arranged marriage works...tho I myself don't want arranged marriage but I am a MATH guy and facts don't care about my feelings...in AM the base itself is strong...when two people are set for an arranged marriage, from starting they realize that they have to work on what they get (which obviously doesn't make sense to us privileged generation whose world is filled with 'options') but in love marriage, its all about love which you can't have it all the time...its impossible so when there is a bad phase in the relationship they think it is doomed and desert it asap...to give you an idea US have around 50% and some countries like protugal and Luxemburg rates are around 85%

Yeah, forced marriage is by default arranged. But not all arranged marriage is forced. It can be awesome if you're in an ideal situation and you can make it work in your favour. For those people unfortunate enough to not have that luxury, my condolences to you.
