True democracy is voting for one of two corporate funded parties whose legislation is largely written by lobbyists, where corporate spending on elections is unlimited, where the winner of the popular vote often loses, where voters in California have 1/80th the Senate representation of voters in Wyoming, where Congressional districts are gerrymandered to give rural conservatives the most power, and where unelected Supreme Court justices with lifetime appointments can overrule the will of the people.
So you don’t believe that Wyoming deserved to have equal representation as Wyoming in the Senate? You don’t believe in a republic where small states can also forge their own destiny? True democracy is where minorities get bullied by the majority?
pfffft Woting your neighbor really?? We have better democracy in the west, OUR representatives are very rich and live in castles. They know best about how poor people should live .
I, too prefer a voting system that encourages wealthy people who live outside of the state to move here and represent us for decades, while their party internally gerrymanders the fuck out of the state.
The Cubans simply don't get how an advanced rules based democracy works, as we can see in this video. They don't know how to obey us...I meant, _"They don't know how to properly love freedom, and democracy, like us!"_ Let's starve, terrorize, slander and attempt to destroy them for 60 years, for their lack of decency until they do.
If only the US had ever demonstrated a willingness to learn from other societies. A Native American said "They keep truth and justice at their sides like little friends and helpers, who only come out when called to serve the masters' interests and their crimes."
5:20 as a USA citizen, she proves the point well considering the fact that only 26% of Americans approve of the US Congress. Only one in four Americans approve of the administration that is in charge of creating laws. I find it fairly scary that three in four Americans do not have adequate representation.
If I recall correctly, someone correct me if I’m wrong, officials who serve in the national assembly are paid at the same rate as the job they had before appointment. Now this doesn’t solve issues of corruption, but it certainly helps.
that is true, most people on the council have a job outside of doing that also because its not paid as a job, that way people who have a love for the people and the community are the ones that seek out these positions. most are open to automatic recall too, so if they start acting out the community votes them out and someone else can take there place.

Great interviews. It's also interesting that apparently as a condition of Obama's normalization that open internet was introduced in Cuba, so I guess that means they have a less filtered internet than most of Europe right now.
Correctly speaking, if one elects representatives one is parcitpating in an oligarchy - read Aristotle. If one wishes to distinguish Cuba's electoral system from America's (thus most of the world's), one would do well to argue that Cuba has taken steps to mitigate the most egregiously ill-effects of America's oligarchic structure: the demogoguery fostered by election successes; and the overt influence of money in a structure intended to elevate the rich above the poor. Oligarchy: rule by the few, the rich. Democracy: rule by the many, the poor.
You paint with a wide brush Aristotle might see Cuba as an aristocracy, rule by the best members of society And America as an oligarchy rule of the few for corrupt and unjust purposes. I also view democracy as "everyone votes on everything". Not possible, but life is a spectrum. Important metrics then become electoral fairness an how well representatives actually represent their constituents, both of which I think Cuba is one of the best of in the world.

I am from Communist China, our democracy is the best in the world...truly, since we don't have the illusion of free will to vote for lobbyist and politicians whom are mere puppets for corporation. I sincerely hope that one day, Americans too can have true freedom and democracy, just like us, here in the Communist Peoples Republic of China!
China has severe human rights abuses and is a one-party dictatorship. There is no other political party allowed in China. Read the Internet CATO article entitled "China’s Dictatorship Gets More Perfect". It has, though, moved more towards free market principles where one would state it's moved towards State Capitalism. This is why China has achieved tremendous economic prosperity in the last 30+ years.
@vien-phuong7451 it is the best, as close to perfection as it gets. It’s funny how ppl who don’t live in China, are not Chinese, brainwashed by western media somehow “think” they know the CPC or China. The only thing you can be certain of is your own ignorance
I will never tell someone from a country that has eliminated extreme poverty, and went from a life expectancy of about 36 years to being on par with my country, if not exceeding it to not be proud off what has been accomplished and the place where it happened. But I will warn you against the error of primacy. With that said, it would be great if the nations that make up the United States would all one day, have some degree at minimum a system as representative and effective as China’s. But of course, it must be developed with its own peculiarities and unique characteristics. There is no best system there’s a questions of what is the most fitting.
According to the World Bank, more than 850 million Chinese people have been lifted out of extreme poverty; China's poverty rate fell from 88 percent in 1981 to 0.7 percent in 2015, as measured by the percentage of people living on the equivalent of US$1.90 or less per day in 2011 purchasing price parity terms,[4][5] which still stands in 2022. But.... China still has extreme human rights problems, no freedom of the press, etc. And those are the cold, hard, harsh facts. Read the Internet CATO article entitled "China’s Dictatorship Gets More Perfect"; it explains things clearly about China.
My understanding is that members of political parties are barred from running as candidates. Hence, Communist Party members are not allowed to run as candidates in these representative elections.
That doesn't sound right. The way I understand it, a political party member CAN run as a candidate. But the party can not nominate nor campaign for him. Basically he is on his own.
@@senerzenYou’re correct on this. In Cuba, the communist party isn’t a political party as the democrats are one in the USA, it’s more like the elks club I believe
They can run, but the communist party can not nominate people or even endorse candidates. Last I checked about 40% of the Cuban representatives are affiliated with the Cuban Communist Party. It’s basically just a volunteer organization now though, much like the boy scouts historically in America.
Ngl even if the system was rigged I would prefer this system to my country's the amount of money that goes on political campaings is absurd not to mention how annoying it gets to hear corrupt politicians criticize corrupt politicians for things they have done themselves or will do once in power.

I'm not interested in political stuffs, but Chile was the only country where Socialism came in through elections in the early 70s with the arrival of Salvador Allende in which his government didn't last for long because of a coup d'etat perpetrated by CIA + the USA's government as they didn't want U.R.S.S to spread over South America. Nowadays, these sorts of totalitarism systems still exist, think about countries like Cuba & Venezuela whose regimes seem endless.
no one has real democracy, even the swiss have parties and politicians. but if you have an effective and accessible power of citizen initiative, then you can have as much democracy as the people want. ideally, that would include national decision by referendum, and open management of national affairs. when you don't have democracy, then you must hope your masters are knowledgable and public spirited. clearly not the case in usa.
I mean, nic endeavor for a video, but the problem is that isn't that I didn't believe Cuba has elections and that the average voter would believe/at least say out loud that their vote is important. Even North Korea, the objectively least democratic "democracy" in the world, fits that category (North Koreans have elections every 5 years, yes even Kim Jong Un get elected in his fake home province near mt. Pektu. The problems is you are forced to vote, there is one, state approved candidate on the ballot, and voting no on them will be punished and if you speak out you will be punished). The open question in my mind is are these elections free and fair and how is the state of politics to having the voices of the people and political opposition heard. Is it something closer to China and north korea where political opposition is suppressed and only one, state approved candidate is there to choose and not voting or voting no on that candidate is punished/investigated by the state? Is it like Russia or Iran where there are multiple choices but any significant threats to the regime are snuffed out from even running in the first place? Is it like Mexico or Japan where, ya it's a de facto one party state, but political opposition is active, allowed, and may have a chance, even if small, or taking power? Or is it a functioning democracy like other countries ( which I doubt)? Because if the hypothesis going in is Cuba is a totalitarian, one party regime, then ya of course Cubans won't be able to freely speak about any opositions without fear of potential punishment from their government. Can they vote for a non state/party sponsored candidate? Can they choose not to vote? Are they allowed to criticize openly their government? These are important questions not being asked in this video

I’ve actually been thinking about how a voting system like this would be superior to the one we currently have. I’m happy to learn that Cuba of all places actually implemented it.
I love how the left claims they are open minded yet when someone who has lived under the ideology they d!ckride all the time, critics it, they get hostile.
the communist party is barred from supporting any candidates, so anyone can run, and if they are a emember of the communist party, the communist party is not allowed to support them or nominate them to anything. the cuban system doesnt use parties, you vote for individuals
Este video tan apacible sobre elecciones en Cuba, es una desinformación total. Obviamente el único punto de comparación es Estados Unidos... Como cubana no me representa para nada, me ofende.
The only political party legal in Cuba is the Communist Party. There is no possibility to change the government with the vote. People can elect between a few candidates that have a history of loyalty to the Communist Party. They may not be member of the Communist Party but need to have a history of support for the Communist Party. In reality is only a Communist Party election.
Actually, the people did not vote for any party. The Communist Party in Cuba has been banned from participating in elections since 1976. Instead, the people vote for the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution, which is an independent body of the people, by the people, for the people.
@@ivanbasiliorobainabychko5936 The Communist Party only exerts indirect influence in Cuba and the Communist Party must submit to the primacy of the Constitution. The same goes in Vietnam but the Communist Party in Vietnam has way more power compared with Cuba. And I agree. People don't vote for the CDR. The CDR nominate some candidates, but it is up to the election commission to put them in office. And all members candidates are technically independent
To be fair, it's more democratic than many of the other systems. In America, it is a choice of two Capitalist governmental parties, making it essentially one-party with two choice. In Cuba, there can be more than two choices, still woth one specific dorection. Communism/Socialism spexifically is very vulnerable to regression so its not exactly surprising that they're against ceding any ground to influence that is anti-socialist.

cuba definitely seems to be a more democratic society in terms of community engagement in decision making, but truthfully i'm a little skeptical of the lack of political parties and electoral campaigning. i don't think it's a bad thing for people to group together in political orgs/parties based on ideology and political strategy, and positing these elections as non-political and non-partisan seems to prevent the possibility of more radical and widespread visions from being on the ballot. but i admit that I know little of the dynamics of cuban politics, I'm not sure what the best type of political formations are in a socialist state
If they have multiple party system their revolution would be at risk and I mean let’s be honest, no major changes ver happened neither in Canada or the US no matter who was on power
Having multiple political parties like the left or the right means a party that represent the bosses/owners of land and factories, and the workers. The interests and goals of the bosses and the wokers are contradictory and are opposite of each other. They cannot be reconciled. Bosses exploit workers, workers work to have a life, community, and family. If you have multiple parties, you become a reformist and try to balance the Capitalist class and the Working class, and ultimately the government become a government of the bosses like the USA. The left party will ask for higher taxes for social programs, and the right party will fight for lower taxes and very pro market. This will totally undermine the majority of people/Working class from taking control of the production for the needs of society, like housing, food, medicine, transportation, etc. Instead it will promote a state and government that benefits the 1%/the rich/Capitalist class and keep the ownership of the production for peoples needs in the hands of the rich. Take for example the Covid vaccine. India was willing produce it to increase distribution in the world but the USA didn't want to share the recipe saying their companies own it. This could have saved many lives, but money became a priority above the health and lives of the majority of people.

If it's a democracy, then you should've asked them why they voted for Fidel Castro for so many years. I am surprised that you couldn't find one person with an opposing view. It seems like the interviewing was very selective or they are not allowed to public state how they really feel.

But under this system, wealth will be distributed more evenly and all workers, from those making six figures per year to those who earn like 8$ an hour pushing carts at Walmart would not have a severe level of inequality. There will be no ultra rich or dirt poor. Only people who live established and balanced lives
@@Natadangsa I've been to the US several times, and I have been to many developing countries and even lived in one for over a decade. The US is NOT a poor country by any standard. Low income Americans have a living standard higher than middle class people in most developing countries.
There is a reason why we have the Electoral College, which is democratic for the states. Go back to seventh grade civics class, and pay attention this time.
"states" meaning corrupt electors. Yeah we don't care about their democracy, we'd prefer them under the dictatorship of the popular vote. Yeah in theory it helps less populated areas have a say but in practice it just makes it easier for both imperial tool parties to gerrymander the elections while neither of them care about helping those areas because they can just pump more money into the media instead to try fooling people that despite all the major problems, they're having it the best in the US due to dems/reps while the other party is only messing things up.
@@Sese0444-s9n LOL! You too should go back and retake seventh grade civics class and learn why the Electoral College is indeed democracy for the states! Trump did not lose by 5 million votes. He won by 77 Electoral College votes. Duh!
@@tdh7865 Maybe you should start listening to the US Constitution, because that is where the Electoral College can be found, and not with "Republicans basing their arguments on seventh grade civics." By the way, seventh grade civics is actually based on PhDs who know what they're talking about. So there is that. Why do you hate the US Constitution? Why do you hate PhDs who know what they are talking about in seventh grade civics?
No, the Electoral College was/is a power grab by wealthy white landowners who didn't want the people to have a say that might've diminished their affluence - What SHOULD'VE happened at the end of the civil war [ever heard of "40 Acres & a Mule?"] It was probably done also to protect the slave trade. Not long after the Constitution was drafted, the Naturalization Act of 1792 was adopted. Know who it said could become US citizens? WHITES~! Pretty much speaks to the temper of the times. Also do a search for "Op-Ed: Even the Founders hated the electoral college" in the LA Times.
Yess true democracy 🙏🏾
And we are making the whole world save for this democracy.
Conservatives don’t understand sarcasm.
You forgot the part about it really just being two faces of one party.
They don't know how to obey us...I meant, _"They don't know how to properly love freedom, and democracy, like us!"_

If only the US had ever demonstrated a willingness to learn from other societies. A Native American said "They keep truth and justice at their sides like little friends and helpers, who only come out when called to serve the masters' interests and their crimes."
instead they stage coups, fund the opposition and imposes economic sanctions on countries who they dont like
The older I get the more I realize what a shame of a democracy really is in the US.
The presidential system in my eyes is heavily flawed in comparison to the parliment systems found in the rest of europe.
It must be really nice not to have constant electoral campaigns and all the nonsense that goes along with them. Sounds positively divine.

You paint with a wide brush
Aristotle might see Cuba as an aristocracy, rule by the best members of society And America as an oligarchy rule of the few for corrupt and unjust purposes.
I also view democracy as "everyone votes on everything".
Not possible, but life is a spectrum. Important metrics then become electoral fairness an how well representatives actually represent their constituents, both of which I think Cuba is one of the best of in the world.

Wrong.... Cuba is a Communist Dictatorship. The elections in Cuba are a complete sham.

Nowadays, these sorts of totalitarism systems still exist, think about countries like Cuba & Venezuela whose regimes seem endless.
Ask Americans if we live in a democracy or an oligarchy (facial)!!!
no one has real democracy, even the swiss have parties and politicians.
but if you have an effective and accessible power of citizen initiative, then you can have as much democracy as the people want. ideally, that would include national decision by referendum, and open management of national affairs.
when you don't have democracy, then you must hope your masters are knowledgable and public spirited.
clearly not the case in usa.
Sorry, en Cuba Las elecciones ya esta decidido quien sale ...
It sounded like a Mr beast video at first

People can elect between a few candidates that have a history of loyalty to the Communist Party. Actually, the people did not vote for any party. The Communist Party in Cuba has been banned from participating in elections since 1976. Instead, the people vote for the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution, which is an independent body of the people, by the people, for the people.

cuba definitely seems to be a more democratic society in terms of community engagement in decision making, but truthfully i'm a little skeptical of the lack of political parties and electoral campaigning. i don't think it's a bad thing for people to group together in political orgs/parties based on ideology and political strategy, and positing these elections as non-political and non-partisan seems to prevent the possibility of more radical and widespread visions from being on the ballot. but i admit that I know little of the dynamics of cuban politics, I'm not sure what the best type of political formations are in a socialist state
If they have multiple party system their revolution would be at risk and I mean let’s be honest, no major changes ver happened neither in Canada or the US no matter who was on power

@@bolcibeatz no i was born in u.s, my family is from there, i still have family there and i have close friends who are fresh from there. im gonna be over there later this year for a few weeks but i often talk with them about these topics.
not all cubans in america or aboard are as vocal as some of the gusamos , many just dont say anything because they dont wanna bring attention to themselves (being there outnumbered by the gusamos) and im sure theres other reasons but youll likely hear alot of anti rhetoric loud and clear from the older cubans who were wealthy slave owners and fled. not everyone knows the political struggles either so they devoice themselves from the conversation all together for sake of not upsetting others. they usually just take there parents or grand parents word for things.
i guess what im trying to say is look around at the masses of america people, most of them are not to bright when talking about pollical matters or hisorical matters . this is true for most nations and cuba is not very different. there are people who are not to smart that speak alot of nonsense that just sounds crazy.
there economic struggle simplified looks like this.
cuba is/ was a nation of sugar plantations and tourism. after the revolution both were embargoed cause castro gave the slaves rights to the land that they were working. and alot of that land was owned by u.s company united fruit..
the ussr helped them by buying massive amounts of sugar (that they did not need) to support there struggle. the rebels used that profit to launch lots of social programs to lift there people up. they built hospitals and clinics and schools etc for all the people everywhere. then the ussr collaped. cuba was screwed when this happen, all that time they focused everything on the people and not the diveristy of production. so... they had nothing after the fact but sugar plantations (with no one left to buy from) and a great social net that took care of everyones basic needs. 90% of all there goods was being imported though so im sure you can imagine how devastating that was and the shortages it created.
now they struggle to get materials needed to maintain or expand there economy (because of the embargo). lots of cubans believe one day the situation will improve and the embargo will end, others dont and leave the island.
the reality is the things they need do not exist on that island, it has to be imported.. they dont have the factory's or resources to get whats truly needed, the embargo screws them very badly and they have to look to other parts of the world and find people who will help, which is why they spend the most on trade then anyone else, they have to get school buses from places like japan or china, and those nations trade with us also, and those who trade with cuba cannot trade with us. its not hard to imagine who they will decide to trade with if they had to pick.. now there is things they can get into cuba but they are rationed because its not enough to be plentiful for everybody so they have to divide it up to make sure it can get around to as many people as possible. its a hard situation they are faced with..
if they give up there revolution you can bet all there social programs will be abolished and privatized. the cuban people are damned if they do and damned it they dont. i hope they can keep pushing, i believe the embargo will be lifted soon.
@@nicholasdelgado-dq4jv thank you for this comment, it was a great read, people dont realized that last part about social programs, thats what bourgeoise likes to do, people dont have material way of thinking, they see cuba poor and they instantly think it's because of socialism... you provided beautifully written context, if it werent for the communist, people would be even poorer, health system would be tragic, not to mention their literacy rate would be horrible etc. i dont think i need to continue because you get the point... its not their fault, its fault of the usa and their imperialism, it's sad that people don't see how is the cuban government trying and that is works different and in my opinion better than liberal democracy governments, everything there is more democratic, i especially love the decision making process, especially when i read about how people in communities were discussing and deciding about the new family code, the new president is amazing and he cares about people, its shame that people see that it isnt liberal democracy and they call it dictatorship, it takes them 15 minutes of research that working people in cuba are more involved in decision making process than in any liberal democratic nation, also my grandma once visited cuba and she was telling about how cohesive people there are, they help always when they can, anyway amazing comment, thank you comrade
This is a one party system. You need a two party system. One that watches the other when it is not doing good. You need freedom of speech. If you say something against the government there, they throw you in jail.
How

bro what are you talking about
Whenever a gusano claims their relative(s) were "imprisoned for criticizing the Cuban government", there's always more to the story they're not telling you. Mainly their relative being imprisoned for making terroristic threats / inciting violence.
a two party system is just as bad as a one party system my guy, both systems are dictatorial, also cuba dont vote for parties but for people and the communist party cant lobby for any specifict people they want in tje government in cuba, unlike in the US where you have two right wing capitalist parties who are all controled by the rich (oligarchy)
also the US has also jailed people for having the wrong opinion, and have what is efectivly a secret police (CIA)
Did they vote for Justin Castro?
Well, I think the conclusion is clear: The US should immediately become like Cuba. Trump's speeches are already as long as Fidel Castro's were. Sure, the living standard may go down a lot, but that's a small price to pay.
No actually. The low standard of living in Cuba is caused by the US embargo. If the US become like Cuba, the US would be at least 10 times better.
@@Natadangsa Considering the US already has one of the highest standard of living in the world, I can hardly imagine what '10 times better' will be like. Fast food workers driving Ferraris? Walmart check-out personnel wearing Chanel and Rolex?
@@pjacobsen1000 It means that there is no more severe inequality and extreme poverty. The US right now is basically a poor country with a Gucci belt.

It’s a failed system. Even tho I don’t like Killery, Trump lost by 5 million votes. That’s NOT democracy.
