i had a chassis mounted shifter in my e36 rally car with rubber engine and trans mounts and when you tried to shift in a corner the shifter would go out of alignment with the gearbox and miss gears, so i went to a z3 shifter which is short but mounted completely to the gearbox to solve that issue
Sounds like the 90s Honda shifters - metal linkages suspended from the chassis by a rubber bushing so it moves around with the gearbox as the transmission mounts flex. Never had trouble shifting mid corner with them.
I guess this is similar to my e60 5 series, renewing everything fresh helped a lot, but I have the e60 530/545 factory quite short shifter. Z3m/ a few others I understand to he shorter but can point the location out. Maybe good for LHD?
I freaking love your channel the 2 of you guys do. I think it's a hark back to the Sport Compact Car magazine days of technical details, track and aggressive driving focused builds, interesting cars and great personalities. Always excited to see a new episode drop.
Do some mods/fixes/upgrades, show how those changes affect the car on track driving/lapping, I'm a happy guy. These are my favorite types of videos you guys do.
I had the exact same issue with the brake booster to master cylinder push rod. I had a real soft pedal and it wasn't very reactivate. After adjusting it totally transformed the car. It's a step that is easily overlooked, but one that is crucial.
I've been following you guys for 2+ years easily, since i saw the Celica project and my dad fell inlove with you channel. I was waiting to see both of your happy faces all those smiles driving this project on the track and finally the whole community is able to do it. This probably make my week a lot better. Best regards from Chile!.
The cars looks (SOUNDS) super good out there. I mean, you may have literally fallen into the "super hero" zone with Fun/Performance/Maint. at this point with the car.
Amazing video guys! so exciting! The car now behaves as good as it looks. It's so good to see you happy and achieving this goals. Keep it up, the best is yet to come.
Love the upgrade on the helmet cam to a better go pro. It makes watching the track videos very enjoyable. It’s crazy how good the Honda K engines perform so consistently on the track. I had my doubts but it’s a great combo with that S chassis. Love your guys’ hustle ❤️
Brake booster/master tech = details that you guys cover and why I continue to appreciate what you do. The "Pimp My Ride" coverage has its place, but I always enjoy the tech side that you guys built the channel on.
Man that is absolutely killer. We have a few K series projects on my channel we're building. Currently I'm about to start back working on the K24A2 AWD CRX Rally car, then this winter we're starting the 280Z K24 swap. Love the information you guys have given, definite trailblazers here!
one of the few channels that mod & track more info on camber changes, spring changes, tyre pressure front & back. great stuff. i track a k24 ep3 which suffers from snap over steer bigger rubber 235x17 all around got rid of that.
I'm not surprised that you all are enjoying this car as an N/A platform. Congratulations and glad to see you've finished this. Now to see if this was sold or given away?
You know whats wrong with that shifter, you guys raced a s2000. That shifter ruined all shifters 😆 Love this car though..she looks so good! Those action shots are sweet too! 😍
Now THIS is what I subscribed for! I don't even like a K series lol. But I love the track and setup talk videos. Always trying to learn how to go faster. And how to make the car work better. I know it's hard to do in a place with winter but man it would be cool to see more content like this.
How does a person not like the K series? Sounds amazing exhaust ripping around the track as NA. K sounds as good as tuned B, and H cars. Honda is awesome
Please, please, please don't get rid of this car. It's been around forever, and is a signature car of the channel imo. I think you should hold on to it as a fun car to just hit the track for when you need a break from the other builds. Plus, I think it would be really cool to see it used for hot lapping as a replacement for the Miata (and maybe some mild updates along the way).
Man that in car track driving segment looked so damn fun! Gotta love the combination of a simple responsive n strong n/a motor in a somewhat lightweight well sorted rwd chassis! I like how this goes against the typical S14 builds seen over the last decade
Do you know that the height of the nrake pedal can be adjusted. There is a nut on the brake booster pushrod but on the drive side, i'm not talking about the engine side. I can show you a picture if you want. Anyway, that could lower your pedal. I've done that on my 240sx and it's a hell of a lot better. Night and day difference. Keep it up guys.
1:20.1 around TMP is super impressive for this setup imo, gives me hope for my s14! Plus if I ever grenade the sr I think I know where to go next... I'm secretly hoping I can pinch some more parts from this build after already snagging the rad from this and turbo from the 930 haha
Great video the S14 is sick. I had something to interject on your brake pedal. Try replacing the proportioning valve spring in master cylinder. On my Corvette they make a spring to direct more braking power to the rear brakes instead of the front. Helped my brake pedal feel and stopping power tremendously.
Such a freakin exciting episode fellas. Congrats on the PB!!! Just finished a track day a few days ago so this is reigniting the buzz!!! Big fan of this build and what you guys have done! Until the next one!
Hi Guys! Love your back and happy to work on your projects and test on the track. I was so depressed when you shut down. Great video and great uprades on this car. Like to follow this project. I learn a lot. This is what I have been waiting for. Please sell it to me and i promise to take it to Nurburg Ring for some serios tarck driving.
Had and loved an S13 years and years ago before it was stolen off my driveway while moving, but getting the understeer out of the chassis was a massive effort. It really came together after corner balancing with spring rates, updating all the little bits and bushings, and the last piece (which I wish I had done much earlier) was a strut tower brace. Granted the nose was much heavier than this Honda-power rig as it still retained the US-spec iron block KA, but it was headed for 450whp on boost before some neighborhood kid totaled it into a Lexus as I later found out when the city called me about the impound fee that had, unbeknownst to me, racked up to 4x what the car was worth. Anyway before you set sail to the old girl, you owe it to yourselves to get a strut brace and send it one more time.
Hope you get the bump steer, roll center kit figured out and fitted, correcting the bottom wishbone angle back to level should make a good difference to handling and poise. When the front wings if you have to.
Such a pretty, well sorted car. It would be fun to tune it to be even better. But, I get that it is time to move on for you guys. Cannot wait for the EVO / STI showdown!!
Its nice to see schassis doing grip racing. Great work guys! I would be willing to wait for whatever years to see it back on track. Hope it won't be sold :)
At 3:23 I think the maths is wrong. If on the car you measured 8.8mm from the tip of the rod to the blade then the blade is 0.8mm that will give you 9.6mm and thus the rod is touching the cup inside the master cylinder by 0.1mm giving you a slightly dragging brake.
I hope when you do your giveaway that a true track / car enthusiast gets this car because they would have an absolute blast and it would change their life
I watched this build from the get go. I didnt think id like it "should gone with an rb or sr" but man that k does scream in there and you cant argue with the numbers.
It would be nice if we could have seen the changes made to the oil pan/pickup to solve the oil pressure issues on the track. Unless I missed an episode on that.
A really fun looking video! A suggestion though - if you could coordinate/synchronize some of what you're talking about with some outside shots showing the car taking some of those corners or accelerating on the straights - would bump it up more. I realize there maybe logistics issues such as track rules and it may take more time to edit the vids and stuff - but just food for thought!? (oh maybe camera's mounted outside on the car?!) Like at around 07:22 - hahaha power slide and the replay slow-mo shot was fun! but also an outside shot would of made it more awsome I think - like 12:35 and so - but u know, as I said, coordinate some of the sequences. Anyways - *hugs* thanks for taking us on your adventures!
Great vid, it looks like the car is responding well to the changes guys, but PLEASE put a key in the ignition, it makes me feel weird seeing you driving without one :D Also, JUST TURBO IT!
Looking at how much that shifter moves under braking etc, thats probably the answer to why you were having issues with the coolerworx shifter. Nonetheless, glad its working better now, and car seems super fun to drive!
To correct the brake pedal feeling , you need to get a slight bigger piston master cylinder , it will make the pedal a bit harder , and lesse sensitive . I do that in my car (19mm master to 21mm master) and "fix" the problem.
Pete: "Watch this!"

Wow a grip focused 240 that also looks good? Hell has frozen over

There is another K swap S14 that is focused on grip driving. The one I saw has a turbo, but isn't quite as clean because of stickers.
