- The Call 6 Investigators have uncovered a state law designed to prevent children from being left alone on school buses isn't working exactly as intended.
Anyone else read the title that the kids were left on the bus for 3 years?

"Tell your kids not to fall asleep on the bus" obviously that woman has no children. How about we tell them to watch out for each other, if you see a kid fall asleep wake them up or tell the bus driver.
Not even young kids fall asleep. I was one of those high schoolers that slept on the bus.

I think the same goes for children who are handicapped, no child should be left on a school bus alone. I just don't understand how anyone could do that and basically get away with it without incident...
As a school bus driver, that I am... The easiest way to mess up is complacency. Drivers not following procedures and taking precaution and responsibility is how those kids end up getting left on the school bus. Trust and believe we are trained and told to always check our buses! It's never an excuse to leave a child(red) behind that bus. Drivers KNOWS BETTER to check that bus. The biggest dangerous of a school bus driver I can tell you from experience is complacency, carelessness, and distractions! As a veteran driver like myself; I'm not that surprise to see the dangerous displaying actions of some of these drivers.

I'm a school bus driver and I worked on the railroad before that and on the railroad, you are taught to follow even the most mundane procedures every time and you know that nothing bad will happen.bi've carried that mindset with me onto the school bus and it had served me well. No room for complacency. Do 2 student checks-one immediately after making your last drop. And the second one at the terminal before walking away from the bus. Every single time, and nothing bad will happen.
I saw a story where a driver was fired immediately when a child was left on the bus that got parked in the lot for the night. In that kind of extreme case where the kid is actually abandoned, I think they should be fired immediately. Might encourage drivers to be a little more careful.
As a city bus driver I myself have became complacent lately to the point of receiving quite a few infractions after 1 year of working

Our drivers always check the bus morning and night, but they are talking even if you have to use the bathroom... Excuse me, what if it were you that had to make that emergency stop??? So what they are saying here is go ahead and have an accident on the bus in front of all these kids??? Not gonna happen on my bus, I will pull over and exit the bus.But will take the keys with me, and have a couple older kids watch the bus to make sure no one gets out of their seats. I have had to stop for the kids to use the restroom. Parents would be really P.O.ed if I didn't let their kids use a bathroom. I am from a small community and we do not have any other adults riding the bus, just high school students. So we have to do what we got to do.
Laura Pulse: I drive for a rather larger town but not that big! My company would never allow me to pull over and let the children exit the bus unless a school staff member is there to escort them off for a behavioural issue...
You have companies for buses??? Our school hires egyptian and Indian immigrants and has the live in a small apartment building near the school!. And the buses themselves are just used mini buses or vans

You go to bathroom before you start work and there should be another person working with driver for you say you don't care about policy an safety of children that its not your kid so why would you care? You should be fired if you leave my kid on the bus alone don't care what reason I would yoke you make sure you get fired then I would sue you for everything you have.. @@badryaalamri3627 usually the vans and minibusses are use by drivers who do not have C.D.L. licenses and normally carry up to 14 kids. Seems like that school district has a big bus driver shortage and/or retention problem.
I know some school bus operators in Arizona who have a policy that if any child is left behind then its Immediate Termination!
they have ZERO TOLERANCE about preventable incidents like this!

Never had this problem when I went to school. My friend slept on the bus and the bus driver didn't see him until he got to the garage. My friend was never unattended because the bus driver closes all the windows, cleans trash off the floor, and refuels it for the next day. Obviously the bus driver saw my friend when he was closing all the windows. Our school has a third party bus company called bowman so it took them awhile to contact his parents. He told me the next day that the bus driver wouldn't let him leave his side until a parent came to pick him up.
How could you not check the bus? It's your job!

I did once as a middle school student have this dream that I rode a motorhome to school.
That are some little 5 years old that have a long time at school and gets tried and falls asleep because on my bus I have a 5 year old boy on my bus .
In Ohio you leave a child alone on the bus you are fired no questions asked. We check at school in the morning before we pull away. You have to go to back to press a button because when you turn you have about 1 minute to press button or a really loud alarm goes off. Horn honks lights blink on and off. So everyone’s going to know. We also have people who check buses that are parked on the lot to make sure no kids are on bus.

When I was a kid in elementary school I was left behind, but that was way back in the early 90ds. The Check system was around even then.

when i would ride the bus in 3rd grade the drivers would use that buzzer for fun to scare us.

Well if schools had enough funding then they'd probably be able to afford an assistant to help the bus driver for example of they have a bathroom emergency.

Tell your kids not to go to sleep....that doesn't work. I drive special needs and pre k and literally drop door to door. I am still paranoid about kids being left on the bus especially when I am dropping them at school. The rules vary from state to state and company to company. With my company it is an automatic dismissal and possible child endangerment charges from the school district.

Tell your kids not to fall asleep on the school bus? Um.......... that's probably going to be harder with middle and high school students, since their biological clocks are different, and middle and high schools usually start earlier in the day than elementary schools.
Its not that hard to walk up and down the aisle to make sure nobodys there I've literally done it cause my stop was last so I did it a couple times

There is a "bus cam" on my bus and one of those button with the stop button at the back and I've seen my bus driver check the bus after I left through the bus. I'm in the 6th grade so Idk much lol

Its amazing how different the systems are from the Australian one, In Australia the Drivers would just drive to a destination and let kids of when they asked and rarely was there a parent waiting for you, In fact when the y got to the destination the driver would just kick you off the bus and you were on your own whether you be 5,10 or 15 years old.
Well I don't know why you would be doing that here we have a lot of things that could potentially hurt kids most of them are human

I fell asleep on the bus once next to a big crowd and my bus driver was getting off the bus when I woke up. Therefore she never checked the bus and I almost missed school.
I've fell asleep on the bus on the way home but my bus driver was always very good about checking the bus before leaving the depot. Back when I was a kid my bus driver would call my parent then got permission to bring me home in his personal vehicle but nowadays the parent has to come and pick them up at the depot or have the bus driver drive back to the school and meet the parent at the school.
A law that makes you report AFTER THE FACT doesn't cause a change in behavior of bus drivers or children. It's too late at that point. No Driver, except the McD driver plans to leave children in a dangerous situation. Also, giving drivers a "candy bar" for doing their job well is demoralizing, How about putting a good mark on their record and some public praise, I mean they just "saved a dummy child's " life potentially. That's worth more than a snickers.

So the driver left kids on a bus to go to Mickey Dees. Kids alone on a bus. At any age, a group of kids without adult supervision is the equivalent of a pack of rabid wolves.

As a bus drive I can tell any viewer here that I myself thoroughly check my bus daily after each run I do. I drive mostly young students who cud easily fall asleep on the seat. I also have fail-safe systems to ensure my bus is empty. I have also driven the same students for 2 years now and know almost all of them - that is not to say I wudnt check my bus - no...I still do...daily after each run. My company lets us know when a child has been left on a bus, in my city, my company and my country. my fellow drivers and I discuss it too. The mere idea of leaving a child on the bus sends chills down my spine and it has never and will never happen - on my bus. I put my personal life on hold, to make sure my big school bus - is empty before I leave it.
Hoa about do your job as a driver and check the darn bus after every route. Smh...I can't deal with this kind of stupidity

Parents must start hiding tracking devices on their children to know where their children are at all times so this doesn't happen to their children. This way, they can hold the school liable.

Growing up in the 80s riding the school bus, there where always 3 adults, the bus driver and 2 support staff monitoring the front of the bus and also the end. Sometimes there was only one support staff. We also hear about people speeding by when there is a parked bus letting kids in and out. Like I said we always had support staff to guide us and protect us from potential Danger.
I guess the school district can't afford support staff? (Smh!)
