    Thanks for your video and parts resources! My Kitchenaid was my very first Christmas present from my husband. Thanks again!

    I too found this to be one of the clearest, best explained repair videos that I've encountered. The planetary drive had dropped on my wife's #600 mixer so I drilled a hole through the housing and shaft and inserted a roll pin. Re-greased it per your instructions and expect many years of trouble free service. Thanks for the huge help.

Has some weird sound that my wife told me about, instead of buying a new unit, followed your videos, purchased some grease and new gear worm from Mr Mixit, degreased, replaced and greased all the parts. Works like a charm. Your videos were super easy to follow and entertaining - thanks for making it easy glad I found you on TH-cam - keep up he great work. I even purchased the silicone mat and cable tie - back in the good books with my wife 😉

    I watched a ton of videos before starting this project, and I found yours to be the most comprehensive. I used it to guide me through the whole process. However, there were a couple really confusing parts for me like when you put the orbital back on and skipped the fact that you had already put the worm follower gear on off camera. I had to watch multiple times to figure it out. Also, maybe something to mention in future videos, I had to replace my gear housing which came with its own bushings. As an unmechanical female, it took me a long time to figure out that I didn’t need the old ones😂 All in all, this was a very good guide and I was able to get the job done and my mixer runs like a champ. Thanks

    I got a super deal on a Pro 550 being sold on FB; the seller told me she only used it once a year to whip cream for T'giving. Using it to make bagel dough or fettuccine, it screamed something awful. Without a load, it was relatively quiet. After searching a lot, the concensus seemed to be old grease in a machine not used enough. I watched your videos, and I decided even being a 66-year-old woman, I could follow your instructions. Took the mixer apart, cleaned everything, even bought a new set of pliers to get that snap ring off and on (appreciate the advice about them pinging away). The old grease was black, chunky, and shiny as you described. Without your video, I'd never have known that black gunk was not right. I've got it all reassembled except waiting on the gasket. Thank you for an awesome, instructional, and useful videos. If all self-help videos were as good as this, repair folks would be out of jobs. Thank you again!

    Thanks for this. Gave me confidence to take mine apart to inspect. Nothing is particularly wrong with it, but mine is a refurbished unit, bought cheap, so I have always been concerned about the condition of the “guts”. Inside the (metal) transmission housing, the white grease was not nasty or hardened, and there was no evidence of shavings or worn teeth. I didn’t see the need to take all the gears apart, so merely wiped off a bit of old grease and dabbed on a bit of new. Buttoned it back up and was done. Feel better about it. I appreciate your expertise - and willingness to share.

    610 stopped working and it was the notorious worm follower gear. The thrust bearing had lost some of its balls. I don't thing the worm follower gear is as hardened as the rest of the gears. It may be a sacrificial gear. Had tons of metal particles over 15 years. I used lacquer thinner for cleaning. Your videos are so great!

    Hello Mr. Mixer, Today I started the task of regreasing my wifes kitchenaid 550 HD she picked up at a Goodwill store. She was very happy that she got it for a fraction of the cost of a new one. When she plugged it up and turned it on, she found out it was a very loud whiner or, as I said, a screamer. So I watched your video and away I went. I got it apart and cleaned things up and found the worm gear a little worn. The worm follower, a lot worn. You could almost shave on its teeth. Whoever last worked on this put the ball bearing in with only one race. I later found the other race up in the top of the housing. Luckily the bearing in the top come out and while I was washing the grease out I noticed a little circle in the very top of the bearing hole. It was then that I found the missing bearing race. I should have waited till after I cleaned up the parts to order the parts I thought I would need to repair my wifes "new" mixer. I still have one little concern. The worm gear rides in a bushing type bearing on each end. The flat sides drop down into a groove on each side. Should there be close to 1/16 or 3/32 of an inch movement from side to side? I have tried to find a replacement housing and having no luck. Is this normal to have a lot of slop? The rounded part still won't fit down in the groove but I thought they needed to be closer to hold the worm gear tighter in place. By the way, I subscribed and gave you a thumbs up. Your video has been very helpful and I thank you. God bless you and be safe.

    • @MrMixer316
      @MrMixer316  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That should be ok if I'm reading that correctly. The worm gear will have some wiggle since it's 'free floating' just being held by the two ends sitting in the channels. Once you set it properly and have the head reassembled that should keep it place. If you don't feel like it's sitting properly you many need to switch the end caps/bearings around. If you'd like you can email us a picture or short video to double check.

    My Pro 600 from 2010 just suddenly made weird clunking noises on high settings and spit out metal shards into the bowl. I was making buttercream frosting and it looked metallic. Glad I noticed before I used it and people cut their gums or intestines on it. It still seems to work fine on lower speeds, but yeah. Replace those gears with missing teeth before they end up in your digestive tract!
    After seeing so many people online complain about the metal shards, I can't believe there hasn't been a class action lawsuit.

  • @WesTanner
    @WesTanner 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    6:31 one thing to note here. It is important to note the gap when you put the pin back in and also when you install the split ring. If you push up on the planetary gear section and it moves then the reason your gears broke in the first place is likely due to the shaft of the planetary hub has pulled out of the crimp fitting. If you don’t replace the planetary hub or at least properly push the shaft back in then your gear will break again.

Are the worm follower gears for all Pro 600s more or less universal? Thanks for such a thorough video.

    First, I love that you have this service and provide such a thorough video for those who want to tackle it themselves! Second, we are getting ready to clean and regrease my mom's 5 plus and found the tips of the worm gear had chipped and will need replaced. Aside from that, the machine has a repetitive ticking during operation but it doesn't seem to affect the movement of the planetary.... Is this likely tied to the damaged worm gear, or should we be looking for something more?

    I did my pro series mix just like this. It had some metal shavings so I used a toothbrush and cleaned all the gears. Ended replacing the worm drive gear on the planetary (bottom gear under the beveled gear). The did not make bad noises before, but now it does 😳. Only thing I can think of is too much grease…. Otherwise I have no idea what’s wrong now.

      If its making a knocking sound, remove some grease, especially up around the little thruster bearings that slide on the front of the worm gear

    You should lightly grease the main vertical shaft before putting it back in to help the seals and such. Might be a good idea to grease the lower planetary gear shaft as well as long as you have it apart.
    I would also want to grease the worm gear shaft ends before putting the thrust bearing and bushings back on to lube the brass bushings. Also, pre grease the thrust bearing balls.
    The accessory drive gear outer surface, and the top of the vertical shaft where it wears in the top housing should also be greased.
    Otherwise, great video! ;)

    I just completed replacing the gears and regreasing a 15 year old 6 qt pro 600 deluxe.. seems to be running much better now. Thank you for sharing this video. have one question. when I finished, I noticed I still had round gasket left over. I didnt see it until I had the housing on. feels like it's made of some composite material. any idea where it goes?

      There should be only one round fiber washer and it should be between the planetary and the lower housing

    My mixer made screaming noises when being used. I checked the head with your video’s help, but it is working well. I found the noisy is from the head back. Two plastic gears are making this noisy. Do you know how to fix it? Thank you.

    Hi I enjoy your video and learned a lot. I have a question, I have a Pro 600 that I've had for many years, The ASS-HUB Cover is always falling out. Can I use one of the modern one piece covers in place of the old hinged version that came with it? If so is any modification required? Thanks

    I have a Professional 5 Plus that is close to 25 years old and has never been regreased. The part that holds the mixer attachment just fell off. Should I bother getting it regreased/repaired or just buy a new one for $240. Are the older models of a higher quality that is worth repairing? Thanks for any insight. Great video!

    TL:DR: should the large gear on the worm gear be allowed to slip, or even be removed by hand?
    Hey I've got a question about the worm gear. My girlfriend's mixer slips with any resistance and she had read people had issues with refurbished motors and ordered one and i put it in but it still has the same slippage with any amount of resistance. So I poked around with it opened up and found the slippage was in the large gear mounted to the rear of the worm gear. I was able to slide that off and found if I flipped it, I could tap it back on, but with a little more resistance (isnit a taoered shaft?), but not enough to remedy that the mixer stops with little resistance. I noticed in your video you did NOT pull this geat off so I'm curious if it's normal at all that I was able to pull it off by hand. I don't know if there's a built in level of force that is supposed to allow it to slip, but if that's the case, I suspect that the shaft in this one has worn from too much slippage. Thanks for any help!

    I just followed this, my gears are all factory original and in great shape. However, now that I'm trying to put it back together, the worm gear is being pulled into the other gears every time I turn it on. I'm not missing any parts and it doesn't matter how tight I have the transmission housing screwed down. I really need this mixer up and running. I've searched the internet and I can't find any advice for what is basically a "rocking" worm gear. My mixer ran perfectly before the re-grease so I wasn't addressing any issues when I pulled it apart. I really need my girl up and running. It's IDENTICAL in every way to the mixer you used for this video, right down to the color!
    I have the correct bearings on each end, I've played with it and played with it but nothing is working. I can see how the housing "should" hold it in place once it's screwed down but that's not happening in my case. I know this is a "floating" gear but I can't imagine why it's being pulled into the other gears with adequate grease. I really, really need this girl back up so HELP!

      Mine is doing the same. He did say that if it is "knocking" (or rocking) maybe there is too much grease. I'm going to check that tomorrow and try again.

    I’ve bought 2 different gears that are suppose to drop into the transmission housing and they do not just drop in. The gear I took out was very beat up. It came out and and drops in, easily. I have a pro 5 that would barely rotate. I got the parts from Amazon. What should I do?

    What's the difference between the grease you use and others? Yours looks whipped almost. A lot I've seen look kinda clearish and like regular thick grease. Are those okay to use?
