Sorry for your loss, I played through all of Diablo 1 and 2 with my dad as well when I was overly young for those games. They still hold a bunch of dear memories in my heart and always will, genuinely great games to bond over.
I was actually excited for diablo 4 after the first village. A small village brainwashed by evil and killing wanderers and non-believers. It felt grounded and scary. Then it quickly divulged into a save the world and giant endless fetch quest.
I can see what you see not Vision milky, then eyes rot When you turn, they will be gone Whispering their hidden song.. And then you see what cannot be, Shadows move where light should be Out of darkness, out of mind Cast down into the Halls of the Blind.
Ah, the Halls of the Blind! Thanks for reminding me of that chilling quest. The poem still gives me goosebumps. Diablo 1's atmosphere was truly something special!
I agree with you wholeheartedly. While D2 is my favorite, you can’t beat the tone, music, and atmosphere of D1. It’s the best of the franchise in those respects.
@@PixelPulseAdventure I hear you, I still enjoyed the story and adventure of D2, but it lost the eeriness, and growing sense of foreboding that you got with every level in D1.
@@PixelPulseAdventure Agreed, sadly, they’re hard to come by. Did you ever play Eternal Darkness on the GameCube? That one is a horror gem, that not a lot of people have played because of the console it was released on.
@@whatshisface04 No, I did not play Eternal Darkness. I just watched a little bit of gameplay and I think I know what you mean. It is very atmospheric and eerie from what I have seen.
Yea, glad to see I am not the only one who thought the first Diablo was pure and great. Maybe not for the exact reasons it is for you, but it had a distinct horror theme and feel to it that Diablo 2-4 lack entirely. The Atmosphere, music, and story sent shivers down my spine when I first experienced it and I still get a bit of goosebumps going back first. The game play has improved for the newer ones, but everything else has felt inferior.
Diablo 1 is the best game ever in my own opinion. It had the greates impact on me as a teenager, to this day I think the game is perfect and none of the sequels captured the essence of what the original game is - the ambience and the atmosphere of diving into the unknown - when you don't know what's behing the corner, what awaits for you on the other side of the door. It was a game that you would play late into the night, alone in your room and get cold sweats and goosebumps all over your body, where surviving a tough battle, by the skin of your teeth was exhilarating and you were there on your own - no one was there to help you... and people above your could not save you - you had to delve into the darkness on your own... and each section of the depths beneath that church would bring you closer to hell itself - no game since got it so well - I still love playing Diablo 1 and it's my yearly mission to find and kill Diablo at least once.
The shitty part about diablos 4 story is that they make our character grounded like if it's simple like diablo 1. at the start of vessel of hatred some fucking human almost kills us with 1 iron sword poke... we've already gone to hell and back and we let some templar almost kill us like what?
I think that you don't really have an issue with stories, just like simple gameplay with great art. Both Diablo I and Hades have complex stories, and Hades relies heavily on lore and side content for replay value. I think Diablo I can only be meaningfully experienced about three times max. The way you describe your feelings makes it seems that you try to put the blame for a lack of a clear focus in modern (A)RPGs on their complex stories, which are two different issues. Also, the devil is in the fact that you can always experience modern games the way you like. Don't like side content? Don't do it. Want a Diablo I experience? Grind a single dungeon forever in Diablo IV.
Doing a single dungeon in Diablo 4 over and over again is completely different than going down a labyrinth until You are in hell and kill the devil himself.
In what sense, honestly? I am exaggerating, but in all honesty, a single area in any later Diablo game would provide the same experience for you as whole of Diablo I did. You make it sound like that's a bad thing, but why? You never give a clear explanation, other than expressing nostalgia. The other thing is the unrealistic expectation. You seem like you want to loose your virginity for the second time. For me, nothing will ever come close to experiencing the first act of Diablo II or Doom 3 for the first time, but I try to understand why and not be bitter about it, when new games don't scratch the same scratch.
@@Ulvenmorg Going through an area with flat dungeons is not the same as going down one big dungeon until you are in hell. I want the experience to go further down and down until I am at the endboss. I tried all other Diablos, it is not the same.
@@PixelPulseAdventure if you want it like that then code your own game and let devs do their games however they want to or play DIablo I forever. The extra content made Diablo better, and you are saying it makes it worse with no reasoning.

The best thing of Diablo 1 is remembering my father and I playing together when I was a child and co-op playing together. I miss ya pops. 1956 - 2017
Sounds like a really great time!

good stuff, well spoken and my god has that music brought back a flood of memories... what sweet times.
I am actually trying to play the music on my guitar now. :)

Yes, I had the same thing going on in Diablo 4. I really liked the feeling of the beginning. They could have done so much more with it.

Diablo 1 was a well concealed mystery. Can't be done by reusing the same IP for 30 years.
Well, the Game itself was named Diablo and the mystery was still working. I think they could reproduce that.
