I love this, taking the flute to the max. There's something particularly great about a woodwind instrument sounding electricky. Very ring-modulated. And as an original piece it works fab for me.

How does she do this? Is there an effect that is used in the microphone? It sounds like there are two people playing at once.

I know this is a very late reply, but I'll answer anyway. The effect is accomplished by the flautist singing while playing, so effectively yes there are two pitches being played simultaneously, but by only one performer. Multiphonics is what the fancy term is.

OatmealCookies007 Later still, but yeah... if you can whistle, and you can hum, you may be shocked to learn that you can actually do both at the same time. The effect is otherworldly and can sound "synthy", like what you might imagine a flying saucer sounds like.

Multiphonics has nothing to do with singing and playing.
Playing two notes at once with special fingerings is possible, these are multiphonics.
You can't whistle and hum on the flute.
