  • Welcome to our new video series where we will paint or finish a different statue each episode! To start things off we will briefly cover a couple basics that will be part of the painting process. Here we discuss the best way we have found to base coat a statue before any finishing details are added.

    Oh thank you, thank you….my older neighbor has a little 12 inch cement squirt she gorilla glued back together because it snapped in two his head fell off 😳. …glue had oozed and puffed up all around the crack. It was an heirloom from her father…I am an artist and wanted to help but wasn’t quite sure how to paint a cement statue. She asked if I could do something 😳. So, I used my Dremel and finally got him all smooth….. turned out nice. All nice and Squirrelly now….she had mentioned she would like it painted if I could. Your video is exactly what I am looking for…thanks. ☺️. I want her to have her heirloom intact and prettied up. Might be the first time I have given a squirrel a makeover …thanks.

    I was literally just noticing the change in foliage when you said you moved. It reminds me of my home here in Alabama. I hope you enjoy your new home. Nice video!

    I’m glad to see more videos like this. I used this technique I learned from one of your older videos to resurrect an old bench and planter that was left in the backyard of our new house last summer. They have held up well over the harsh winter we’ve had so far so fingers crossed!

    nice to see you again,recently started up again here in england,tryin out some methods for painting,spraying with base coat paint,then clear paint,seems to be ok at present,a bit costly though but finish seems good,also a company in britain seems to be making satutes with crushed marble and high quility resin,comes out smooth white finish,cant getmy hands on any crushed marble though

    Thank you so much for continuing to share your knowledge in your field! I have an ongoing issue that I'm hoping someone could help me with. Some of my statues have a splotchy hydrophobic surface that does not absorb water or paint. I use the exact mix specifications and mold release recommended in previous videos. I'm nervous that this will cause longevity issues. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

    • @rubbermoldman8544
      @rubbermoldman8544  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say for sure. But I suspect it could be the mold release pooling in areas. You can wipe out the inside of the latex after applying the mold release to make sure there is no excess. I will sometiemes dip mine in water, then let it sit for a few minutes to drain any extra. Hope that helps, :)

      @@rubbermoldman8544 I appreciate your feedback and fast reply! I will definitely give that a try. It absolutely sounds like that could be the problem.

      Yes we have painted them but I don’t have a video on them. We saw your email with this question so we’ll send you a detailed response on what we used to do.

    Question. Can you use a watered down white as a base coat? I am painting some mushrooms and noticed the black base coat made the red paint not pop very much. I just wanted to ask. Our goal is a rich red with the traditional white dots. Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the info in the video! I'm working on a "Rebecca at the well fountain" and could use some help. I watered down the base. After it dried there are areas that are thinner than others. Do I need to go over it again with a watered down mixture or what should I do next? Thanks!

    How soon after you demold a statue can you paint it? I've been waiting 30-40 days for it to cure, but it would be nice to get them done sooner 🙂

    I LOVE your videos! I find myself checking back often for more! I’m just starting out and don’t want to dump a lot of money into it just yet. I’m wondering, can I use the sample size exterior paint vs a gallon or quart exterior paint? Thank you!

    I bought an angel statue that already has a brownish stain on it. I would prefer it to be white or grey. I want to use it on my granddaughter's grave. Can I just paint a base coat over the stain or can the stain act as a base for white paint and then a clear seal?

    • @rubbermoldman8544
      @rubbermoldman8544  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s hard to say without seeing it, you could probably base coat it but the safest bet would be a spray primer before the paint and sealer.

  • @Angela-Bieda

    How long should this base coat dry before doing the dry brush of color?

    • @rubbermoldman8544
      @rubbermoldman8544  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As long as it is completly dry, you are good to go :)
