Thanks for your comment. I think you're maybe overthinking it. To achieve the same type of result on a larger project, simply do smaller bits of it at a time, rather than the whole thing at once.

When you say "top" do you mean top coat of paint, or do you mean the rustic string round the top of the jar?
Yes top of jar. They bother me. I have been using Lor coffee jars. They have the push on airtight lid. I wouldn't have even thought to paint the string. Very good tutorial. Thank you.
@Deborah A Minogue thank you for your kind comments. The rustic string covers the thread of the jar, if it previously had a lid. The overall effect is the perfect finishing touch to help finish the project off neatly. 😀

Just remember that if the boxes are made from cardboard, you'll probably need to dry it from both inside and out of the box to help stop the card from warping too much. Love to see what you create 😀

It's about knowing how much to water down the paints you already have and letting the layers dry. My process is simple and I've truly been blown away that people love it and the video. Thank you so much for your very kind comments. The moulding were cast from Prima Re-Design moulds moulds using polymer clay. I stuck them in place on the glass using silicone glue. 😀
Exquisite 💕. What would you seal it with for use outdoors?
Thank you. If you wish to make something like I created in my video, weatherproof. I would suggest a products such as Plastikote sealer. Just be sure that your project has been left to fully dry before applying. As the sealer i've mentioned is a spray, applying about 3 to 4 coats. Let each coat dry, before applying the next. I believe the spray comes in both a mat and gloss finish. I hope this helps answer your question 😀

What difference does it make if you add initial coat of the copper as you've covered it all and it doesn't show through at the end.
Hi, the copper coat after the black coat is there as a backup really. It shows up better in real life than it does on the video. Where there are gaps in the first coat of the verdigris green colour and the colours thereafter, the copper does show through. But you can miss the first coat of copper out if you wish. It all depends if you want to risk any of the original black coat showing through on your end result. I hope this helps answer your question. Thanks for your comment. 😀

What an excellent video as I expected to have the same reaction to it as the videos that come up surrounding yours by others. In your case I stand humbly corrected. I picked up a large concrete Buddha head and cannot wait to see how it works on it. I'll start on something a little smaller but I cannot wait to try it tonight.

I want people to then go and try what they've seen in their own projects. I hope this technique works out for your Budda head. I'd love to see what you do. Loving your video can I use any type of gold or copper acrylic paint for the base coat?
Thank you Roberta, yes any gold or copper acrylic paint will do. I just had the one I used on my desk.

I would suggest a good coat or two of gesso. Then, once that's fully dry, you can follow the same steps as I've shown in my video. Good luck with your project, I'm sure it will turn out brilliantly 😀

Thank you for your kind words. I mentioned moulded pieces. I made them myself, using polymer clay and moulds. In the case of the moulds used in this project, they were from an American company called Prima Markerting. Give them a google, as I don't know where you live. They have lots of moulds. If you're living in the UK, let me know and I can point you to people who well them. Hope this helps.
Great video. Wondering why we need the gold underneath all that green? Can that step be skipped because I’m the video it doesn’t seem to come through at all and then gold added on top. Seems like a waste of a layer from my end.
Also did you say you added the raised appliqué? What glue did you use? What kind of appliqué?

Hope the above makes sense. The appliqué are made from polymer air drying clay and stuck to the surface of the glass using a DIY silicone glue. The appliqué elements were made using moulds from Prima Marketing. Thanks for your comments 😀
I suggest you look at an example of vertisgris in a weathered stature.

Thank you so much for your kind words. The gold paint used in this project is called Treasured Gold, which is made by Plaid Folkart. However, any metallic gold paint would work. Hope this helps 😀
Where did you buy the mouldings from that you stuck onto the jar first ?
They are all Prima Marketing moulds that I used to make the casts.
Why put on copper if you keep covering it up?

Hi! I only applied gesso because I was painting onto glass. I'd also do the same for MDF or wood too. Other than that, you should be fine. As long as you painted on the metallic first coat, then everything should be good. Hope your project turns out amazing 😀

Yes, just change the colour for whatever you prefer. Keep the white, as that's what gives the aged effect 😀

Hi Val, there should be no reason why not. Be sure to prime the concrete surface first and then once you've done the technique, ensure you weather proof over the top with a clear varnish or similar. Hope that helps 😀

What's the purpose of the first gold layer?
The purpose of the first gold layer, is that it shows through in places. The coats of green that go on top, aren't perfectly painted. So the gold ensures that, rather than any black showing through, it will be gold. The green layers are partially transparent too, because they are very thin layers of paint. This is waterproof??
Thank you for your comment. Because I used acrylic paints, it does not really make the finished item waterproof. If you want to waterproof it, simply apply a clear matt waterproof varnish over the paint finish. Hope this helps answer your question 😀
Interesting thank you for your video. I would like to ask why is there a need to put a thick coat of black paint a thick coat of copper paint when it could be just done with the thick coat of verdigris at once and then the white wash and the rest of it. I dont like wasting paint perhaps thats why I make a comment. Sometimes I like watching other artist using this technic but experiences has shown some waste a lot of paint
Thanks you for your comments. The first coat is there as a base coat, in the same way that you'd prime a piece of wood before painting it. Black gesso of a bonding primer would work even better. So the black coat is really there so that you get a nice even coverage of all paints that go on top and so that the paints that go on top have something to key too. Thank you for commenting. I would like to point out that to achieve the layering of colours isn't a short process. Indeed, you could stop halfway through this process. However you wouldn't get the same effect. Give it a try and see what you come up with 😀
Also, I do not agree with that one comment that you could get this affect another way. It Hass to be done like this I know because I have tried.
Thank you for your support. You can buy special paints to produce this type of effect. I simply wanted to show people that the same finished effect could still be achieved, but using cheaper and easier to obtain paints. Thank you again for your comments, they're much appreciated 😀
Seems a very long process to end up with a 'green' jar! You overdid it, and lost the desired effect. Back in the '90s, I was a hand decorator for a large lighting company, and I must have turned hundreds of black candlestick holders into very old-looking brass candlestick holders, using the verdigris effect. I would stipple on the gold, over most of it, but certainly not all over it, then, here and there, stipple on the green & blue. And the result was like looking at a 300+-year-old candlestick holder, and not a green one.
Thanks for your comments. There are many ways to produce the verdigris effect. This one isn't a long process at all. It's all about layering the paints and letting them dry before moving on to the next layer. I think if you take a closer look at the thumbnail for the video, you'll see that the jar is far from being totally green. There is a lot of aging using white paint and gold dry brushing. Verdigris comes in many colourations, so there is no wrong or right. It's not an exact process and I'd be more than happy to share a link of your video of your process on my channel.
It may seems a long time to you, for me it’s the enjoyment of the creation no matter the time it takes 🤷🏻♀️💕
