    Thanks Thomas! Neat to see a true circular fisheye for Fuji-X! They’re not that common. Definitely a specialty lens but still fun. Nice review and photos.

      Thanks Donald! Yes it’s an uncommon specialty lens 😀

    There's also the Laowa 4mm with a 210 degrees FOV. That one gets cut off on micro 4/3 and the image circle is a little bigger on APS-C sensors, with less black above and under the circle. A bit more expensive though and smaller, which in this case might lead to more fingers in the frame.
    I'm still doubting between them!

      I did not try this 7Artisans on MFT. I am sure it will also get a tight fit at the top and bottom of an MFT frame, especially when you will shoot 16:9 (video). If the Laowa's image circle is bigger than the 7Artisans, maybe it will even cut the top and bottom already when shooting 16:9 on an APS-C body, not only on MFT.

      @@tomscameras As far as I've seen the circle of this one exactly fits in a MFT frame! Probably you're right that for video it will get cut off.

      My guess is (again: I never tried it) that the circle of the 7Artisans 4mm will also get cut off a bit when you shoot 16:9 video on MFT. Maybe that's why 7Artisans states you will need 3 photos to cover the full 360° x 180° area if you wish to do so. With APS-C, you can do that with just 2 photos. (Of course, more overlap - using 3 photos instead of 2 - could maybe help to ensure the best image quality.)

    Hi Tom. Have you received or purchased your copy of this lens for testing and review yet? -- th-cam.com/video/HXRjhVXMtLE/w-d-xo.html

      @@tomscameras Thank you. I know this is very subjective depending on the preference of the user. But we know when this reviewer scrutinizes any lense, people tend to trust his judgment unless there are copy variances: th-cam.com/video/z9H1dKj-vm0/w-d-xo.html

    That's not an everyday lens but generates so interesting effects. Samyang 8mm for DSLR is my widest one so far :D

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Samyang 8mm is a full-frame fisheye. Maybe it's more versatile as you still get a somewhat "conventional" rectangular photo ... but I think the 7Artisans 4mm is more spectacular! :)

    • @photoreviewed-com
      @photoreviewed-com ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomscameras Yeah, as far as I know Samyang becomes fisheye on full frame. I used it on APSC, still very nice effects. Your experience with 7Artisans 4mm definitely shows much more in the terms of fun :D

    This one is really special. Definitely not for everyone. But the warping/distortion effect while filming is cool. 😎
    Did you shoot some of the shots at the Schokoldenmuseum? I also was there one, while i was still studying. 👨🏻‍⚕️

    Just offered $ 100 for a new one on eBay and he accepted ! I had their 7.5 and it was good, but this one is much better ! I hope it comes with a front cap, didn't show it on any photos. This lens is going to be a lot of fun ! You did a great job of showing us what can really be possible and what great fun we can have with it ! Also, when I had my larger 7.5mm I had taken some hilarious married couples portraits and animal portraits. Will be even more fun with this one ! LarryMac

      You got a great deal! I hope you're enjoying your lens! I also love to try out subjects that a lens like that is not really designed for - such as portraits! But that's part of the fun!

    i'm surprised the image circle is so small. i was really expecting the edges of the circle to be much closer to edges of the aps-c frame. as far as addressing the metering issue, i suppose you could choose square crop in camera while shooting raw+jpg or jpg only and eliminate much of the unused space while metering, although manual, as you suggested, is likely a more reliable solution. also, i think i would've liked to see a few "de-fished" sample images.

    • @tomscameras
      @tomscameras  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the hint about selecting the 1:1 crop in-camera, I didn't think about that 🤦 ... but you're absolutely right, maybe that would have helped!
      As for the image circle: I included a video sequence that I shot with this lens in my review. As you can see, in video mode the image circle is very close to the top and bottom frame borders. That's why 7Artisans had no other choice, they had to make the image circle relatively small ... otherwise it wouldn't work for video (which is one of the main uses that they market this lens for).

    I just ordered one of these today and can't wait to get it! Looks like such a fun lens to play with! I was going to get the apsc version for my new Sony A7RV and put the camera in crop mode but at the last second decided to get the micro four thirds version and use it on my Olympus EM1-MIII. For $149 it's not going to break the bank or disappoint me that much if I don't like it.

      I hope you have a lot of fun with the lens. It's really very cool to experiment with and delivers results that no other lens can ever reproduce! :)
