Yea, I’ll try different things and see what works best. The power drops off around 9100 rpms so I’m assuming I’m getting valve float right around that area. Shifting later doesn’t do much for me there. I’ve got new sprockets coming, I’ll try those out and go from there

@@jamesrevels by the gearing, you mean something internally the transmission itself or in the final drive. Presuming that I know what I'm talking about, isn't the magna a shaft drive?
3rd gen is chain driven. Factory sprockets is 16/40 which is what I’m running. I’m going to a 15/42 which should give me a lot faster acceleration. From what I’m understanding, I should shave almost a full second off my time

I went back and watched one of your early reviews on the bike and you talk about changing the sprocket and chain, that's how much I pay attention, sorry about that. Granted chain drives are so easy to change the ratios on... Then again owning two bikes with shaft drive, the 83 vt750c shadow, and my new ride VTX 1300. I've just always been leery about getting on it too hard with a shaft drive. Anyway, good luck on your endeavors... And persevere. Later

hello congratulations for the interesting channel, I have a problem with my honda vf 750 c from 1988, I adjusted the air mixture screws as per manual, 1.30 front from all closed and 2.3 / 4 rear, but I find myself with the rear left white spark plug black right, front left black spark plug and right white spark plug, I can't get all four of them in the right color, the bike is all original configuration and the carburetor has been cleaned, thank you very much
Not sure if you adjusted the air in the rear tire, but take one or both(if allowed) those mirrors off, get a set of low bars, or flat bars, should cut 10th's the easy way. helps to have gloves that go over top of your leather sleeves also, they make cafe' like fairings for the Magna too, not sure how much they help, but I'd think it might help some. anything that catches wind makes a huge difference obviously, even if it's something you're wearing. looks like you were having fun, that's what counts :D I've never ever been to the track where someone didn't spill parts or fluids or both, lol, it's just part of it, it's always nice if they stop near where it happened, to keep the next vehicle from possible crash due to it, I have seen cars keep going after spilling fluids, but that's usually near the end of the track where momentum keeps them going thru the timer. always better to stop, always.
I’ve got a set of drag bars on the bike now and just ordered a front fairing today. I tried removing the mirrors and as much random stuff as possible but didn’t make a huge difference if any. But what I’m doing currently will make the bike way faster
@@jamesrevels well, if anything, you gotta admit there's nothing, like that V4 ^^ it puts power down is such unique way, you really have to ride one to even begin to understand it. so many thing they're like V twins, and they couldn't be more different! what I was talking about was more about shaving 10th's than anything else. I know all too well how the bike wants to lift on take off, causing your 60' time to suffer. I just appreciate the honesty of your video, thanks for putting it out there :)
I'm watching again, as seeing you run out past 9k into red, which 9k is the stock drop in power on these things, you probably know all of this, but others don't. maybe a sprocket change would help quite a bit without suffering the rideability too much. these v45's run out of steam right at about 9k, plus your temp light was going nuts, meaning it's got something happening that isn't good. I'm sure you got this ALL covered by now. great bike either way, and I'm happy people are still appreciating these things....there's always NOS
I have dynod this bike and I produce a pretty good power band from 9500-10500. I try to shift around 9500 though. The temp light is inaccurate though. It will light up after just a minute of riding. As long as it doesn’t stay lit I don’t pay attention to it. Either there is a short in the wiring or the sensor is bad

I'd love to see the difference with 50 shot of NOS after the 60 foot, never looked into how that would work on the Magna, but I imagine at least 1/2 second off the 1320', timing would be everything of course, trial an error, only way to learn :) I can't want to get back to the track, last time I was going was with my bolt on everything, GT, It will be a whole new thing with the Magna I'm sure.
Hey maybe stupid question but your temp light keeps blinking on is that normal for these 3rd gen magnas. Asking because iv got a 96 havnt rode real hard yet but just wanting to know for future
I have a short in the wiring somewhere and haven’t tracked it down yet. When you first turn the key on the light should come on for a second or two, basically it’s doing that from time to time. But no, it isn’t overheating
I try to. If it’s a single nozzle for all types of gas, you are putting in about 1.5 gal of whatever the last guy used. I only know of 1 gas station near me that has 91 octane no ethanol that has a dedicated nozzle, and I just recently learned about it

My '85 V65 Magna scares me so much I won't take it past 7,000 rpm or 80 miles per hour, but then I'm 70 years old. It's a great bike, though!

Lower rear tire pressure a couple psi for traction, increase launch rpm by 2,000rpm and feed it redline shifts
I’ve played around with different launch rpms and around 5,000 is what does the best for me. The tire pressure is lowered to around 18lbs

As long as it doesn’t sit for long periods of time, ethanol won’t hurt anything. You just don’t want it to sit for months with ethanol
@@jamesrevels Yeah I learned my lesson with a dirt bike once. There's a gas station about 15 minutes away from me that has a non ethanol only pump
