How To Do Man Makers | Exercise Guide

  • Position a pair of light-weight dumbbells in front of you, parallel to each other. Keeping your back flat, bend forward and squat down, grasping the dumbbells. This is your start position.

    Initiate the movement by kicking one leg back, then the other so that you’re in the push-up position, holding onto the dumbbells. Your weight should be on your toes and hands. Do a one-arm row for each side, bringing your elbow up as high as you can.
    Hop your feet forward and rise up by cleaning the weights, bringing them up to shoulder level, palms facing forward as you hop a second time. Descend into a squat and explosively rise up, then press the weights overhead to full arm extension.
    Lower the dumbbells back to your shoulders, then bend over as you squat down to return the weights back to the floor in front of you. Repeat for reps.

    i did these yesterday, and they killed me. for those talking about it being "CrossFit crap" and all that, give these a solid go. go for an AMRAP session for 5-10 mins or so with a heavier weight. higher weight and longer time for those capable. then have something to say.

      @@Haimmmm if done competently it can be good. The thing that most people see is crossfit lifting heavy weights fast that it tends to go out of control, causing injury. They also tend to have a habit of chasing pain (if that makes sense).
      Also people (including me) don't like seeing the kipping (some call it 'fish') pull ups

    Advance version - Push up, row from left hand , push up, row from right hand, push up, and the squat to shoulder press. This is 1 rep. Do AMRAP.

    I did these over the weekend and am paying for the shortcut I took on thrusters. Lower back pain onset after 24 to 48 hours. Be sure to do the full extension to clean these before squating into the thruster!!

    why would you not add a push up in there, as well as a more cardio based motion when extending into as well as exiting the push up postion?

      Man makers have a push with each row. Pretty much a full body workout. Very challenging but an awesome exercise.

      You can easily modify it if you like, start with a walkout to pushup position then mountain climbers 3x both legs, push up rows both arms, push up, t-push ups both arms, then squat to burpees while raising the dumbell and the do reverse lunges 3x both legs all of that counts as 1 rep maybe call it beast maker.

    This is the least challenging and explosive manmaker I've ever seen Haha use kettlebells, add pushup between each row, and change the slow extension to an explosive sprawl and THAT'S a manmaker.

    Already seen some comments below, but fair warning: do NOT squat like the man in the video. Move the weight to your heels and do not allow your knees to pass over the line of your toes. Better for your booty and better for your knees!

    Some of you say there should be a push-up, but I disagree. Think about how many push-ups you can do vs. how many man makers you can do. Odds are you can do way more push-ups, so they aren't adding that much to the man-maker sequence. If you want to do push-ups do them separately and actually get something out of it.

      It's not a debate about wether there "should" be push ups in the move or not, there is supposed to be. That is what a Man Maker is. This is a scaled version.

      Devil Press is a burpee + ground to overhead. Man makers are supposed to start at the top of a push up position, perform a push up, then a row with each hand, then hop the feet towards the hands (heels must make contact with the floor, don't stand on your toes like the guy on the video does), hips must be higher than what's shown here (just the same as the standing up in a burpee) and then you clean it and add a thruster. I'd recommend you learn how to clean first. It is important that your lower back remains neutral at all times (straight back), and that when you're lifting, you don't lift them with your shoulders (like he's doing here) but with the power of your hip extension (you need to fully extend them, too, don't stop half way to rush the weight up. It should be as if you wanted to jump really high but your feet are stuck on the floor). The dumbells must remain as close to your body as possible and when you get them moving up (after fully extending the hips) you go underneath them. Finally when you press them, make sure your core is tight, your butt squeezed, you lock your arms, and the weight is over the back of your neck. If you've never done them before, try with light weights first!!!

      It's resistance cardio. If you're not trying to do cardio, you wouldn't really want to do this. A kid maker it is not though.

    So many mistakes in this demonstration!!
    To start with Renegade rows are wrong.
    Frog Jump form is bad.
    Never seen such a bad DB Clean. My clients perform better than this!
    And Thruster is wrong!!
    The point is whole movement is wrong...

    This is quite possible the worst demo video i have even seen. Not a single part of this video is correct. Poor row form, no pushup, clean, squat and press are absolutely awful.
