I can’t play the violin but really enjoy it. I’m a pianist and seems that keys are my thing but I enjoy watching you play!

I feature this tune in my book "Scottish Music Yearbook". The book takes the reader on a year long journey through the music of Scottish composers.

Julia, maybe you can help...I was told my great-grandfather played the fiddle. He was born in Scotland in 1853 and came to the United States in 1883. It appears he was also a singer, dancer, fiddle player, boilermaker, etc. Are you able to tell me what songs he may have played on his fiddle between the above mentioned years using his personal info I just wrote about? Any suggestions would be appreciated by all of my family members...It is clear to us that he liked having a good time...Thank you in advance.

@@9cGFNRH Hi there. There would be a vast number of tunes available for him to play. Too many to name. I'll name a few and then give you an extract from my book that might help you. So there is Coilsfield House composed by Nathaniel Gow (1763 - 1831), Niel Gow's Lament to his Second Wife composed by Niel Gow (1727 - 1807). And here is an extract from my book where I name other famous fiddlers of that era. Good luck hunting down tunes "Nathaniel Gow wrote Coilsfeld house. They were a prodigious lot, the Gow family. It is probably more accurate to refer to them as the Gow musical dynasty. They were certainly the most celebrated fiddlers of their time (the 1700s). Nathaniel’s father, Niel Gow is renowned to have been THE most famous fiddler of the 18th Century. Both Nathaniel and Niel were prolific composers, and Nathaniel’s son Neil also composed a number of tunes. The Gow’s legacy can be heard in most of the Scottish country (and ceilidh) dance tunes that are played today, along with some of the other great fiddler composers of the 18th Century namely William Marshall, Donald Dow and Robert MacIntosh. "
