I have both the W502 and the new 7" W702 unit. The W702 is absolutely gorgeous, huge screen and extremely bright. As a bonus, it has 2 ways of connecting to the bike, a wiring harness to the battery and another harness that you can plug straight into a USB port, and it works perfectly. Looking forward to using it next summer!
I have the 7” W702 unit. To help prevent theft while taking short rest stops, I bought a locking knob from Ram Mount to replace the plastic wing nut which clamps on the ball mount on the back of the unit. I bought the version which has a metal key for about $30.00. They make another version which uses a plastic star type pin-lock system which is only around $10.00. I wouldn’t use either for extended times away from the bike, but for short breaks I think it would be fine without having to remove the unit from the ball mount.
Question; does your w702 have the 'Ghost Touch' problem that all smart phones have? rain drops cause problem when you try to operate it, and device have mind of its own and do weird things?
I believe that, with the Carpuride device, the Cardo/bluettooth headsets can be connected EITHER to the Carpuride device, OR to your phone directly (ie only the video signal goes to the Carpuride) The latter seems to be preferred by many folk, as it seems to give a more stable/quality/less laggy audio connection.... (there is a setting buried in the menu somewhere that give you the option...)
Nice to see more options coming out. I’ve enjoyed the Ottocast and link it to my Bluetooth ear plugs for music. For dual sport riding, Gaia GPS works great on android auto and I plot routes before heading out as well. Really helps when coming to a logging road intersection with sometimes 3 choices! My main motivation is to keep my expensive phone safely in the pocket as you mention. Only had one season with it, but covered quite a few miles and working great.
Good test, I use my Garmin XT most of the time and occasionally my IPhone. So for those who don't want to invest too much money in a gps, this could be an interesting alternative. (Quebec, 🇨🇦)
This is a great idea for older motorcycles like my Victory Vision. I hate using my phone on the handlebars. It is much better keeping it in my jacket where it is cooler and protected, especially on real hot or cold rides.
Looks like a much better unit. Not sure if I would get one or not but it seems to function a little better. For me I think a dedicated GPS might be better.
I use Google maps to create routes and than translate them with secondary rogram (do not remember at the moment). But Sygic does have online track creator that you can send file to your device.
I actually put my phone in my jacket pocket and listen to directions on the gps. I have a cheep mic. and speakers in my helmet that works very well for directions and music. The mic and speakers on cost about 40 dollars off of ebay.
Thanks for this info. I think I prefer a Garmin XT. Then I connect my SENA to it and my phone for music. But do you have a video on mounting your GPS on your Tiger? Where and how you mounted it. What products you used for mounting, etc? That would be very helpful to me and my new Tiger GT Explorer.
I found a bracket that clamps to the windscreen adjustment bar on eBay. However I cannot find it anymore. I see that they now make a round bar that replaces the OEM adjuster. You could then mount to that.
At 4:13 you stated that you paired your Cardo Pakctalk Edge as your GPS? Can you elaborate on that part? I am unable to get audio from my Cardo Packtalk Edge headset when it is paired to the Carpuride. Thanks!
Hey Craig! Thanks for the video. Looks like the leading motorcycle specific nav apps that support Android don't support Android Auto, but they all seem to do Apple CarPlay. They usually say the development time needed to support AA is high vs the amount of interest in the feature. Guess the niche is too small to drive the effort.** Update as of Mid March 2024 My Route App Navigator works with Android Auto**
In most of the world outside the USA, iPhones are expensive and in a minority compared to Android phones. So it looks like the routing apps are concentrating on the US market.
Since the post My Route App released Android Auto support. I can say since the latest patch it works great. It has become my go-to motorcycle navigation app.
great video. Question; does this Carpuride have the 'Ghost Touch' problem that all smart phones have? rain drops cause problem when you try to operate it, and device have mind of its own and do weird things?
Nice review, especially after the issues with the Ottocast. QQ: does it support 2-helmet intercom for 2-up riding? I mean, rider and passenger (not comms with other riders in a group)
@@LivingOffTheSlab Thank you! My comms are archaic, they have compatibility issues and do not share music. I asked Carpuride, but did not get a response. I suppose I will buy one and experiment.
Good Information, I got the W702 yesterday , It all seems to be working fine, I am connected to the 702 via wifi and bluetooth to my SC2 on my Schuberth C5. Everything works good except the voice to text isn't working via my Android phone . The biggest thing I am noticing is it is draining my phone battery quick .Not sure why that is , I am using the iplay /Auto (BTAudio) Sound Audio output . Is it always wifi from the phone to the Carpuride unit ? Thanks and happy Trails
Could you try out the Spedal NaviCam CL876? It has got some interesting addons like tpms and dashcam for which the main display unit would show the stats/video feed. But I do not see any reviews yet.
Thanks for a very informative video. I'm looking at the W702, so it may be different in function, but does this unit allow for displaying incoming text messages, and can it read them back to you through the Bluetooth headset?
@@LivingOffTheSlab Thanks. That's too bad though; I'd like to be completely hands free, just as I am in my car. Hopefully this will improve in the future. God bless!
I’m playing around with different Navigation options using a route I created in MRA Route Planner and Rever - Garmin Zumo vs my Goldwing’s GPS vs several GPS apps on CarPlay. I’ll share what I found in our next Travelers Club meeting
Hello! I would like to ask if the Carpuride W502 (as well as the Ottocast Lite C5) have an fm transmitter or a radio. I have a BMW R 1150RT and I wonder if I can hear from the bike's speakers. Thank you very much! 🙏
No, there is no radio receiver. Music would be handled by your phone or via an SD card. I did not try to connect either unit to my bike, but I have a feeling that it would not work well. It is designed so that you would need a headset of some kind.
Riding around in New England I never experienced it but in my oct trip to dragon the cell phone got too hot and shut down in the middle of the day. Very inconvenient and been thinking of adding one for this purpose. Does it work wirh the onboard computer?. My GS runs my cardo , phone through it . Did u connect to your motorcycle on board computer.? So three way connection I guess.
I'm finding it a bit challenging to mount devices on my new tiger 1200 gt pro. The biggest issue is tank bag interference, and i have a small bag. What are you using as a ram ball mount for these devices?
Go to my website and checkout this page. Scroll down and there is a link to some mounting accessories. www.livingofftheslab.com/gear-electronics-camera
I did not try that, but in theory if you bike allows BT connection with an external player, it should work. But don't take my word as I did not try to do that.
Doest it support carplay with iPhone Google map app for two wheeler? As it just navigate for car navigation and doesn't work for two wheeler navigation !! Any one using ?
Be careful about this product. I purchased the W502 for my motorcycle, decided it was too small and attempted to return it as per the "unconditional return" policy on their web site. The joke is on me. Here is the response: Dear customer, If you want to return the product, you will need to send it back, incurring high shipping costs, tariff and the risk of losing the product in transit. We will refund you $50. You can keep the product, You can use it yourself or give it as a gift to a friend, Is that OK for you? This is not an UNCONDITIONAL return.
Posting something back to China is not expensive, even if you pay for insured postage. So they are just trying to discourage you. Also, if you buy via AliExpress, eBay or Amazon you are covered by their return policies. I have been refunded by AliExpress for a returned phone that the supplier refused to collect from the local Chinese post office.
Why don’t you just go the whole hog & fit a 50 “ smart Tv to your handlebars ,& then you could all watch your favourite movies ,while you’re travelling down the main drag, as you obviously think fiddling with gadgets ,is more important ,than concentrating on the road & traffic surrounding you .
That is unfair. He goes on long distance tours, so he needs a good navigation display for that kind of travel. A Beeline is smaller and simpler, but it doesn't show you the route ahead of you.
