    Helpful, thanks. Note that compression with PNG here is lossless, so the default 15% doesn't lose any quality, it simply determines a tradeoff between filesize and performance.

    2 years late, but thank you! I'm learning 2D animation and am starting a big project. I'm turning an ending animation from a video game and reanimating it in 2D with the intent of making it more photosensitive friendly for an epileptic friend. I turned all 2000 (I'm crying, that's so many. And that's AFTER trimming all I could off the video) frames into individual images to use as references to make it as accurate to the real experience as possible. I remember I did this sequencing once in an animation class, but I forgot how, so thank you so much for this tutorial. Surprisingly enough, the file of images is only 2.58 gb big. I was expecting much worse XD
    The ending animation is ARK Survival Evolved Aberration ascension scene, if you wanna know :) It's a very pretty scene, but very flashy, my friend loved the game and I want her to finally see the ending.

    • @BlenderRookie

      I am aware of this issue and it started with one of the recent versions of blender. To get it to output correctly, you need to close blender, open blender and then set the resolution before adding the image sequence. Adding the image sequence after setting the resolution should solve this glitch.

    good video, but you have to read up on the specifics of different file formats when giving people advice on when to select something other than the default on things like compression. .png is a lossless compressing format, no information will be lost, when using higher compression levels on lossless formats. All it does is that it significatly increases the runtime at image generation due to the programm searching longer for the optimal way to encode the information on the least space. This in some cases can increase runtime minimally when opening the resulting image, but will not lose any information as formats like .jpg will. When configuring the export like you did the resulting image will just be larger for no real benefit, drastically increasing loading times when posting these images online.

    this is really use full, but I put a portrait video captured from my mobile, when I render all the sequences are rotated how it fix?

    • @BlenderRookie
      @BlenderRookie  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's caused by a metadata issue. One part of the metadata in the video is saying I am a portrait and another part is saying I am landscape. Blender happens to be seeing the tag that says it's landscape.
      I am pretty sure it's a simple thing to fix. But I don't know the solution right off hand. When I get back home I will see if I can figure out an easy fix and then reply again. The only thing I can think of in the moment would be to use a video editor to rotate the video and put that into blender.

      1)Add the clip as usual
      2)select the top half
      3)press N to bring out side panel
      4)set the rotation to either -90 or 90 whichever is correct
      5)set the output dimension that reflect the desired orientation.

    Thank you for your tutorial, it was clear and concise. I do have one problem though. The video clip I used is only 32 seconds long, 24fps, and is only about 1.4 mb. When I extracted the images/frames, each image was over 1-2 mb resulting to a of file of image sequence being several gigabytes in size even though the original video clip I used was just 1.4 mb and the images/frames themselves did not really increase in quality either. Is there a way to fix this? As in, is there a way to extract the image sequence at a much, much smaller size?

    • @BlenderRookie
      @BlenderRookie  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's impossible to make the quality better in this way, no matter how much data it needs, it will not make the quality better than the original.
      As to why a frame sequence requires more data than an equivalent video clip, well, that's primarily due to the way video is compressed compared to the way images are compressed. Modern video codecs recycle portions of a previous frame in order to help save space. An example would be a person talking in front of a black background. The video codec can recycle all the black background and the only things that change are the person and the person represents all the new information, thus drastically lowering the amount of data required for each frame. But an image is just an image and there is no recycling of data because the image is just a standalone image.
      There are image compression formats like compressed PNG, JPG or JPEG. They will lower the data required to save an image but they are limited in their effectiveness and all of them other than the compressed PNG will actually lower the image quality.
      Video codecs such as MP4 with an h264 compression algorithm will use a combination of compression types. They will recycle/reuse information from a previous frame and compress each frame in addition to that. As a result, video files have become very efficient.

      @@BlenderRookie Wow, thank you for answering rather quickly and thoroughly too.
      I see, so basically there's no way around this huh. Welp, better clear some space then. The reason I needed the images in a much lower size is because I'm gonna individually upscale them to create an upscaled video (I use Blender and an upscale software) and I'm worried the file size might actually increase way, waaay more.
      Anyway, thank you for answering my question. I greatly appreciate it.

      @@khrazza Oh, that's super easy. Just open Blender, press 1 to go into front view, press 5 to go into orthographic view and then drag and drop the video into blender. Very simple.

      @@BlenderRookie 1 and 5 don't do anything when i open blender. Should i be in 2D Animation or General? (1 and 5 buttons don't work in either)

      @@khrazza 1 just puts it into front side view and 5 into orthographic. I say do that first that way your view is aligned. But make sure the splash screen isn't showing and make sure your mouse pointer is over the viewport window.
