Ah...memories. I remember exit 183 to the University of Richmond. Went to school there and stayed 12 years until I moved to Atlanta. This video also reminded me that going through downtown on 95 used to be tolled...I don't think it is anymore.
Thank God Almighty and VDOT! I've just discovered that they have finally improved the configuration where I-64 east joins with I-95 south, just in the the last few months after this video was filmed. As you can see here (11:12) the left lane of I-64 intersected with the rightmost lane of I-95 south with absolutely NO merge area! This was extremely dangerous and I can't believe there weren't ten crashes a day there. For me, I always stayed in the far right lane when I was staying on I-64 since the left lane was useless to me. Now they have the rightmost lane of I-95 taper off and merge in before the junction so that I-64's left lane can safely continue without conflict. Besides, that stretch of I-95 did not need three lanes in the southbound direction. I'd been hoping for decades this change would be made. Great improvement!
I drive this route every day and I’m so thankful they made this improvement. And I would like to add that they just made the right most merge lane onto i-95 to also serve the purpose of an exit only lane to SB state route 161 (Arthur Ashe Blvd) while the left merge lane (not an exit only lane) splits between a continuation of interstate traffic and exit lane for NB 161
I loved watching this video. It was very enjoyable and brought back some great memories.
Richmond seems so big but it's so small with only 62 square miles and a population over 220k.
No it's not small Richmond consist of Henrico, Hanover and Chesterfield which has well over a million people yes inner city Richmond has 235,0000 people residence living in Richmond ok how many residence live in inner city Charlotte ,Raleigh and Atlanta almost none those inner cities are like ghost towns unlike Richmond which is an independent city like Baltimore Charlotte, Raleigh and Atlanta are made up of counties take the population of the counties away and just keep there inner city population there population would be less than Richmond so shut the hell up and Richmond has more of a big city gritty feel to it that either of those cities Charlotte and Raleigh are very Country and slow Richmond is DC s mini me in my opinion and I'm from DC so I know.
I just looked it up to make sure I knew what I was talking about do you know what Charlotte NC inner-city population is its 30, 000 so technically Richmond is actually bigger than Charlotte and also Mr bumpkin did you know Richmond has more people living in its downtown than Charlotte, Raleigh and Atlanta does so stop hating on Richmond.
@@Classy4514 obviously he/she is talking about the population of the city in the city limits not just the inner city where the Downtown is. He/she even included the area. And I don't think he/she is having on Richmond by saying that
@@w-josh Obviously you can kiss where the sun don't shine I said what I said and I'm not changing one word.
Richmond will always be 62 square miles. The city's boundaries are locked by state law and it is impossible for the city to use annexation to expand.
Awesome drive along I 64 East towards Richmond
Used to make this drive while returning to Langley AFB in Hampton after being home on leave in Charleston W.V. back in the mid 80s. I remember there being a toll right in the middle of Richmond on I-64 and I believe it was a dime toll fee then.
Was it on 64 or was it on 95 through downtown? I don't remember, but I do remember the toll (and the toll on the nickel bridge that somehow was a dime...lol)
I remember that particular spot
Nice ride on I 64 East in Richmond VA
I just passed through Richmond last month on my way to Virginia Beach but we took 295 around instead of staying on 64.
How Come U Took 295 Around Instead Of Staying On 64 When U Went To Virginia Beach 🏖 A Month Ago
How Was Virginia Beach When U Went A Month Ago & Where Did U Stay AT
@@tameikabrown It was quicker as it bypasses Richmond. We actually didn’t stay right at VA Beach. We stayed at the Club Wyndham Governors Green Resort in Williamsburg and it was very nice!!! 😊
