Guys! I fixed it! After months of bad news with the Volvo, I finally have a win!
Today, I fix my 2005 Volvo V70R and finally get it out of the garage! What did it take? Well it took an entirely new BCM, my wife's computer, and over $300 in software alone! Once it was done, I didn't want to take just a run-of-the-mill test drive, I wanted to take the car on a "big" 35 mile journey to go pick up some tires that my uncle ordered for his C4 Corvette in a little town called Clearwater, KS. You can lift the rear seat bottoms for more space, they even have hooks to hold the seat backs so it's perfectly flat back there.

My friends dad bought his mom a C70 when they first came out. They took the vacation delivery. Flew to Sweden. Drove it for a week. Put it on a boat. Then picked it up at the docks about a month later in Oakland. Cool trip.

As someone with two current generation Volvos, I love seeing this and VIDA usage. It's fun using the factory tool to diag and update your car. Nice work! Volvo does make you pay to play but you're dealing with direct manufacture software. I do wish the module reload didn't cost so much but again, gotta play to play.
Having the car on a battery tender with flash feature is recommended to keep your voltage consistent and where the software wants it to be. For anyone else out there seeing this with a 2016+ Volvo SPA platform, the new cars use Ethernet to communicate with the OBD2 port and VIDA. Volvo has a OBD2 to RJ45 female adapter you should get.

Glad to see your back to full health and the Volvo is healthy as well. I'm guessing the old BCM is an example of a previous owner "knowing just enough to be dangerous"; ie they fired the eBay-Parts-Cannon assuming that all Volvo BCM's are the same.
I would hazard a guess that the incorrect BCM might have been from a 2WD car and so might have even sorted the 4WD issue, because this BCM knows what 4WD is.
The day the hood is painted will be a good day for the Volvo; this shape us still such a handsome look.

Hi. Nice to see you have the Volvo back on the road. FYI you can fold the back seats even further so the cargo area will be completely flat. Just lift the rear seat via the two straps close to the back rest, fold the head rest (pull the strap) and then fold down the back rest. Good luck. I ran my 2003 v70 for 300000km/ 186000miles. Good car with outstanding seats. But had to repair front suspention 4times. Get a wheel alignment. The Volvo will love it.

Classic Volvo owner saying things are all good, no warning lights, when you’ve got two current unfixed warning lights. I still think that instead of re-painting the hood, that you get it louvered or add a hood scoop instead. With the high engine bay heat of this thing, especially right above the engine and turbo, you would benefit from getting that heat out. Good job working with Xemodex - they were super helpful for me too with the main CEM.

@@ElliottAlvis Do you think paying for the software just to recalibrate for a part change is a barrier for some people? Wouldn't it be better if it didn't cost so much? I understand the development costs for the programs need to be recouped, but $100+ for just the brakes is a little steep. and what if other computers start to fail?

30 mpg in that there awd 2.5 L 5 cylinder? Impressive. Lol @ the end. i worked at alloy wheel repair before. Those new tires I bet were a pain to put on. When they hug the rims so tight you need a lot of grease or soap so they'll slip on.. hard not to damage the wheel! Great stuff as always!

Good to see ya again Elliot! Glad you got VIDA set up, having access to the official version has saved my arse several times. As a proud owner of a mid-2000s Volvo that does just work (when it isn’t killing ignition coils) I will say that ~typically~ you can get these cars back to a solid, error free state. Unfortunately many of them have been pretty chronically neglected or serviced improperly. There is often a big hump to get over!

@@ElliottAlvis i have two xc70s and after some good maintance they do start to work properly. the best volvo i have is a 1997 Volvo v70 5 speed manual with a 2,5 liter turbo diesel.
@@ToomasTelling The D5 is a really good motor! Not the most powerful diesel out there but pretty durable. I have a 2004 T6 XC90 that’s actually been a freaking peach to own. Most expensive thing in the last 4 years has been the three ignition coils it killed.
@@phishphood423 on my 2002 XC70 with the 2,4 liter 147kw/200hp gasoline engine, i replaced all the original coils with NGK ones.
I thought, are you kidding me, of course you can fit those tires in the Volvo! Having space to transport stuff is the reason I have one of those. Wagons are the best.

We had an opportunity to buy a swimming pool blue R wagon a number of years back. We were young and poor and it would have ruined us financially, but it's only one of the cars I regret not buying. Good on you keeping one of these R wagons on the road.

Barely been a month but already miss the leather airbag. They change the airbag to a hideous plastic goop so take plenty of pics of it before it's gone :(
