@@JegErAlan Hi, Alan. Thank you for your purchase and for letting us know your thoughts. As always, should you need to contact us for any reason, please know that we are always here to help. Thank you for choosing DJI.
Though I like the innovative design of the DJI Action 2. I still prefer the GoPro for its performance and different shooting modes. I hope eventually GoPro will add a bigger sensor!
I posted a link to this video on the DJI forum, and I commented there "But generally there does seem to be a problem with shadow detail disappearing, and low light performance being the opposite of what might be expected from the larger Action 2 sensor. " I then got this reaction from DJI R&D - " Thanks for the feedback, we are working on the image quality improvment in following firmware." So that's good.
Great job covering these 2 cameras. I really like how you did the overlay to show the difference in the field of view. I have 4 GoPro's and I just ordered an Action 2 mainly for it's compact size. Perfect for placing inside small RC's and getting POV. The GoPro line of cameras has been serving me well other than one that just won't turn on. Only used it 2 times.
it is good decision to buy dji actio 2 in december 2023 (how it's battery life in 4k 60 fps in just a camera mod) .i'm living Bangladesh where normal temp is 35 degree .so should i buy it ?
Gopro congratulations the king is back, there is no competition from other brands dji osmo action is dead no successor. I’m really disappointed in DJI if we look dji mavic 3 have awesome specs and camera results but this action 2 is really a step in the bad direction.
DJI is not dead. In situation where you need the smallest form factor, its still the most viable candidate. Especially now that GoPro no longer makes the Session.
Thank you for detailed review. On the video Action 2 always lacks image details and looks washed out. Did you ensure the same ISO settings on both cameras? I can't believe Action 2 is so poor compared to GoPro
@@MountMediaChannel There is a problem with current Action 2 FW - in auto-exposure it selects higher than necessary ISO that would certainly affect the picture. That's why I asked the question.
@@ioutkine i don't think thats the case, look at 3:35 , if it in fact action 2 is using higher iso than necessary, there would be noticeable noise, but there isn't and yet his skin is still smoothed out.
@@bikingchupei2447 Unfortunately I do not have GoPro to compare. One of the things that I can think of is that DJI may apply too aggressive NR (I remember there was a big problem with that for old Mavic Pro but then they offered an option to disable NR). Regarding the issue you can try yourself. Just try to shoot on a sunny day and go to exposure settings. It will display actual shutter speed and ISO.
What an excellent series of tests! It seems to me that the Action 2 image quality in terms of resolution of detail is going to be adversely affected by the very wide lens - if you are trying to capture more image information onto an equal number of pixels, some details are going to "fall between the pixels", so you have to decide between lens angle and detail resolution. Generally though the larger sensor on the Action 2 doesn't seem to be leading to the expected advantage in terms of low light and noise etc. I suspect that we will see some significant firmware updates in that respect, to address low light performance and also detail in the shadows. When it comes to overheating, indeed at home I can come up with some depressing figures for running time but in real use, I've not encountered any problem, especially with the two modules connected. The camera module alone has restricted battery life, and restricted memory, so having restricted overheating limits is not such a big deal in context. And of course it's much the same with the Insta360 Go 2 (which I owned till I destroyed it...) - the laws of physics do apply to these tiny devices! Some open air, walking along overheating tests would be interesting to see. Will I do those tests? Well, we'll see... my doctor says I should walk more... The latest problem emerging with the Action 2 is self-discharge. When the two modules are connected, the screen module appears to try to continuously charge the camera module and some users have reported that it goes flat in 24 hours. You have to keep the two separated when not in use, which is an irritation or worse. Hopefully DJI will fix that too.
There was a comparison from Alaskan youtuber in a dark ice cave and Action 2 with Rocksteady turned on performed much better that GP10 with Hypersmooth on. Larger sensor clearly made a difference - GP10 was basically unwatchable, Action 2 was kinda meh, but still watchable.
I am most interested in how the GoPro 10 will behave in summer conditions with a temperature of more than 30 degrees, Since I think to buy GoPro 10 for video recording, it shoots better in color than action 2 and one question worries me - will it quickly overheat at a temperature of 35-40 degrees, our summer has been very hot for the last 3 years
The only advantage for me with the Action 2 is I can add a DJI Mic kit and only need a USBC-to-USBC connector. The Gopro 10 would need the media module.
No regrets on my hero 10. I feel DJI made this camera to meet the needs of FPV drone pilots who fly freestyle and need a more compact camera vs the Hero 10. But if they really want to compete with Gopro, they should have priced their camera 100$ or so cheaper imo. Not to mention there's the Gopro Lens Mod that wasn't talked about in the video that will bring a larger FOV and potentially horizon lock on a higher resolution then the hero 9. I'm still waiting for the firmware update to make this work
Oh wow, you mentioned D-Cinelike unusable on the DJI Action 2 camera. Maybe that's why my 4K recordings on low sunglight like overcast was so grainy and I really was upset. Does that mean that by no choosing D-Cinelike, the image quality will improve?
Great comprehensive review. I was really looking forward to seeing what DJI could do but will be stick with my GP10. Quit disappointed with the A2, might as well use the Go 2 if form factor is important to you, it’s cheaper and smaller
The GoPro is far superior in almost every situation: color, detail, dynamic range, and lens flare. One the thing about the detail in the face. If you have to, you can always reduce detail in post; however, you can never add back that detail which was never recorded in the first place. Of course, the DJI still has the advantage of an overall wider field of view, but that also introduces more distortion especially around the edges. So there's always a trade-off either way. One more thing, keep in mind that the wider the field-of-view, the less small movements will be noticed. Therefore, the DJI may appear more stable at times on that parameter alone.
Great video btw, I subscribed as soon as I watched this comparison video. I'm a gopro hero 10 black owner and I was also on the market for the Action 2 because I wanted a camera like the GO 2, but wanted to see what DJI had to offer. but upon watching the video comparison, I'd like to wait for a while until they fix the color and exposure settings on this camera. I wanted it for the "low light" capabilities since I'm not a big fan of lugging around a dslr to vlog like Casey Neistat or Peter Mckinnon. I use my action camera's mainly for vlogging anyways so I wanted a lowlight version. but it seems like the gopro hero 10 is better at lowlight. I guess the bigger sensor didn't amount to the kind of low light advantage they were hoping for.
Interesting. I’ve found the action 2s images way too dark using the nd filters and usual ISO shutter speed double frame rate. Without filters it’s colour reproduction seems much better than my hero’s. My biggest issue with it currently is the amount of distortion on its widest angle, for my uses it’s not a patch on superview, and adds both fisheye and what appears to be motion blur where I wouldn’t expect it when mounted on the fast drones I fly. May be better using 4/3 and cropping. Overheating isn’t a problem for me. I expect dji with drop lots of updates for the darkness and fisheye processing.
Curious what ND filters you are using (I didn't realize any were available for the Action 2 yet). I've debated pre-ordering some from Pgytech (whose products I like), but I think I wouldn't have them until December. Did you get some pre-release ones? :-)
A better overheating test might be to put the cameras on mounts and put a very low fan on them to simulate the air flow of a normal walking pace. With them flat on the table like you showed there is no way for the heat to escape on one side.
Hi thx for a great video I'm leaning towards the GoPro as it is also $310 cheaper than the Osmo on 26/12/21, but I would like to know if you can tell me more about battery charging times as well
The funny thing is - you say gopro have clearly more detail than dji, but image say something oposite 😅 Of course it's youtube compression effect, but people may not know this :) I think this review is great and show everything important. IMO gopro is real action camera, dji more like vacation camera :) I really love design and size of DJI, i wany buy one if it will be cheaper. I'm hope DJI will selling this without additional battery pack :)
I agree as well. it's not the kind of camera you really wanna take with you, without extra protective casing, to any action sports events. Specially real action sports like motocross or downhill mountain biking.
I was looking for an action cam to record some longer (30+ min) uncut videos. Apparently the overheating issue makes all the current gen action cams not a good choice for me, which is a little disappointing to be honest. Guess i have to look or wait for something else. But thanks for this comparison video.
Hi - If you're shooting at 4K/24 or 4K/30, the GoPro doesn't have any overheating issues. However, a new file is created every 4GB. In my experience, this is not the case with the Insta360 ONE RS, for example. The ONE RS also creates files of 10GB and more.
Sorry if I missed this... but are you comparing same resolutions in this test? If not, it would explain lack of detail compared to GP10 on a lot of shots.
I found this hilarious. Sorry but why would you compare the two cameras and keep the other handicapped? LOL. The gopro hero 10 can offer 5.3k resolution. So why would the reviewer handicap the other camera to keep the comparison "fair". We the consumers should ask DJI to make a 5.3k version then. just my two cents. That's like comparing a Honda to a Bugatti and only asking the Bugatti to only run at Honda's top speed.
@@CathandMel That's what I was thinking as well; but I kinda understood what he meant with his reply... However, I wish it was stated that comparison was between Max settings of both cameras. Hi MountMedia, Nice video and detailed comparison between GP10 and A2. Well done. New sub as well. Which will you keep? I have a GP 10 but like what DJI did with the form factor and magnets. More accessories will come out and already Smallrig has the magnets to protect the modules, Freewell and PGYTech are making the ND filters, and Titla is working on the cage. I would be interested when someone makes tele and anamorphic magnetic lenses for the A2. The Insta GO2 just added a 64GB option with 57GB usable memory. Too bad as I got the 32GB just weeks ago so the A2 looks more like an upgrade to the GO2 in terms of small form factor, modularity, horizon leveling, and wide FOV. And it addresses the short battery life, short memory, and lower resolution that the GO2 is limited too with the added modules but more elegant design with the magnets.
One thing I forgot to mention is that Rode Wireless GO2 can be used with the A2 that allows digital input which means you just need to plug in USBC into A2 and the other end into the Rode GO2 receiver and you have external auto. Pair this with the Instamic’s new Pro Plus and you have 32bit float audio, all day battery, wireless external audio with bluetooth, waterproof up to 1m and 30min duration, timecode sync with Track Synch E, and with small form factor mounting options, you can place it in so many places. Only drawbacks are USB micro, no 3.5mm jack input/output, and need to synch audio and video, but for my use cases the pros outweighs the cons.
First of all, thank you very much for the information you have given, I follow you with liking. I bought Goopro 9, I don't know its new settings, I can get better results if I take a video photo of which settings, thank you in advance
They can build a perfect camera for everybody for all occasion not. The catch is that it would cost a million dollars, and you would complain that it cost too much. So you see, its always something.
I just got the DJI, in my first test with 4K/30 fps and Rocksteady I was able to record a video of 3 minutes, without the Rocksteady I got 6 minutes. This c*** goes straight back to Amazon.
Gopro is very unreliable. It's the luck of the draw with them. You don't know if your video will be recorded or you'll have sound or any other issue. With the dji cameras I don't have to worry about that
When comparing the shapeless, u should not zoom the both to same FOV, action 2 is much much much wider. It is unfair for Action 2 which is much overzoom. You should use the widest FOV for each camera and shoot a same things full of their frame ,just like dpreview.
Leaning more towards the Action 2. Field of view, the dynamic range, stabilization, and just overall image quality is better for me. And I just prefer a much more compact camera.
May the problems in the DJI camera be solved by upgrading its firmware? I mean it's not bad at its hardware parameters. I'm saying it not because I'm a Chinese protecting the Chinese brand, but I'm attracted by DJI's brilliant industrial design and really want to buy this one. hhh

Thx for sharing!
10:03 sao nó lắc quá vậy bạn đã tắt chức năng chống rung có phải không ?
gopro seems to brighten with IR, but controls it for long range.
First of all, thank you very much for the information you have given, I follow you with liking.
I bought Goopro 9, I don't know its new settings, I can get better results if I take a video photo of which settings, thank you in advance

BEST GOPRO 10
i have a dillema what to buy hero 10 or a good knife for 550euro... please help me guys and girls 😁
I go for hero10
will wait for the gopro 25 and the dji25 to come out ,,they might have the software right by then,,,
They can build a perfect camera for everybody for all occasion not.
DOES IT HAVE ZOOM and contrast. Want picture of moon in wide and zoom/detail of moon.
15:10 is inconsistent in the background, a camera getting near and far at same time, is strange even with normal camera
Programming, is working for both. would be nice for manual controls like camera
RAW or MP4?
Cảm ơn bạn đã chia sẻ video so sánh giữa 2 thương hiệu gopro với dji
спасибо
Gopro is very unreliable. It's the luck of the draw with them. You don't know if your video will be recorded or you'll have sound or any other issue. With the dji cameras I don't have to worry about that
When comparing the shapeless, u should not zoom the both to same FOV, action 2 is much much much wider. It is unfair for Action 2 which is much overzoom. You should use the widest FOV for each camera and shoot a same things full of their frame ,just like dpreview.
The zoom factor for both cameras is exactly the same
@@MountMediaChannel sorry it looks very similar.
Leaning more towards the Action 2. Field of view, the dynamic range, stabilization, and just overall image quality is better for me. And I just prefer a much more compact camera.
Action 2 is do dark in shadows. My insta 360 go2 does much better job. (Have them both).
Hi bro I am your new subscriber the video from dji Acton 2 video I am so curious to know where are you
South Tyrol, Italy
Looks like Merano ... wrong ?
No, right!
@@MountMediaChannel I love Merano !!!
Four winter's years
GoPro 10 kills it!
Where do you live? Awesome place
South Tyrol - Italy
May the problems in the DJI camera be solved by upgrading its firmware? I mean it's not bad at its hardware parameters. I'm saying it not because I'm a Chinese protecting the Chinese brand, but I'm attracted by DJI's brilliant industrial design and really want to buy this one. hhh
Так что по итогу лучше?)
