Thailand will re-list cannabis as a narcotic by the end of 2024, the nation’s prime minister said on May 7, 2024. The stunning U-turn was made two years after the country became one of the first in Asia to decriminalise the drug for recreational use and despite the rapid growth of the marijuana retail sector. Tens of thousands of shops and businesses have sprung up in Thailand and the industry had been on track to be worth US$1.2 billion by 2025.

it's not really a "reversal" the original situation came about due to lack of political unity shortly after the coup government gave up power. The old laws were removed, but no new laws replaced them, due to the lack of political cohesion. Everyone knew that eventually that would change and now it is. Basically there was just a 2 year gap in drafting the new laws due to the delicate political situation. Legalization was never the intended goal. After all, Thailand is still transitioning from a period of a long coup (2014).

Cannabis should be absolutely just as legal and easy to obtain anywhere as alcohol currently is. In every single state. No exceptions. It's so easy: As legal and easy to obtain/use as alcohol currently is. Why hold relatively benign, often healing cannabis to any sort of irrational, stricter double standard than perfectly legal alcohol?

The point of business is to grow, to market to the maximum number of buyers possible (including children, ie Joe Camel), to bring in new customers no matter what. While the point of crime is to stay hidden from discovery. Legalizing ALWAYS increases usage, of anything. Legalizing takes usage from a niche market frequented by criminals (by definition) to the broad and open markets.
