I'm a long-time viewer of your channel, and I still find your videos incredibly informative. This one about matching neighborhoods to different lifestyles and life stages was super helpful. Your choice of topics and the way you present new ideas are always great.
Unless you have a healthy budget, typically, the neighborhood picks you. Looking at available inventory, at a target price, there are not many options.
@@JWH808 this is very true. Usually the budget and top 1 priority dictates where we search, especially in a higher priced market. In a cheaper market there may be more discretion available.
I love watching your videos, because you both are so real. I feel like you both are really looking out for the clients.
@@AlbertO-yi2js we treat you like we’d treat a friend or cousin :)
Love the personal musings on possible places to live. Love it!
The HOAs are going up everywhere by 300 to 1000 a month, no matter townhome or condo in the next year. So can forget these current maintenance costs. Hawaii is nuts.
@@jenillion granted this was filmed a long time ago before all of this recent HOA stuff and it’ll be here on YT long after it’s all resolved too, but you are correct
@@movingtohawaiiwhat HOA stuff happened recently?
Derek, still taking care of Hospice family member. But, looking for one level condo is fine, ground floor. Needs to be one level. We have four dogs. Just got debt free this morning for the first time in over 10 years. We like Makakilo
My ideal for a house would be Mililani. Centrally located and with all the basics for a bedroom community, like groceries and even a movie theater now.
When I was there, the H-3 did not exist, so it took a longer and busier drive to get to the older tunnel that goes to the Windward side.
Those houses need more space on the sides; most barely have any space between houses.
I love the cooler weather in Mililani and Wahiawā. Centrally located is a major advantage. Who cares if one has to drive 25 minutes to a beach when the trade off means less salt air corrosion and no mandatory flood insurance!
@@mt2766 yes but I’ll say, it makes a difference. In Ewa it feels like a short shoot over to the beach and you’re already hot so you’re more motivate to go. In Mililani you’re like “ah the weather is nice and that’s 30 min to surf, let’s just stay home. Haha
@@movingtohawaii You’re right! Although, when I was a kid I never let 30 minutes come between me and the beach-even if I had to catch The Bus with my fins and boogie board.
I love this channel but will never move to Hawaii just love learning about the neighborhoods.
I love where I live. It was cheaper at the time than town at the time. It isn't packed with people so I feel I have peace. It is close enough to town not to get stuck in that Ewa Beach/ Kapolei/ Waianae traffic.
My husband and I moved off island for work last year but of course we are always looking at the island again. We rented a condo in Hawaii Kai and worked in HK. We absolutely loved it there but also loved Kailua and Waikele. Kicker we have 5 young children under 5. We felt so constrained to a condo. No backyard or anything. What would be a location recommendation for a large family?
@@amberdailey9348 interesting that you also liked Waikele. Depending on budget, many places would work. Ewa is the place to get a bigger home and stretch your $
Please do a video on suggestions, tips, etc for homecare…looking to buy, but dk where to begin or which island…land or fixer upper to make it handicap accessible. Mahalo nui in advance✊🏾🤙🏾🌺
I love the videos and the live streams. Profile -We're a young couple, one of us being a nurse and the other working in IT from home, and looking to have kids while we're there.
@@coles3156 what hospital and what nursing specialty? Depending on budget I’m just thinking Kailua, but would need to chat more.
We’re so so so glad we chose Kailua as our home. The ability to walk into Kailua Town and to the beach every morning is an amazing experience.
@@JustinLewisWeb there is no place like Kailua that’s for sure
@@JustinLewisWeb what part of Kailua?
I just closed my eyes and put my finger on the map of Oahu. Kapahulu is where my finger landed …and I like it a lot 👍🏽
Loved this video concept! How about a cash buying, retiring couple from the mainland (but lived in Oahu before - non-military), a bit petrified about old high rises with potential HOA assessments. Will look at SFH, but with minimal maintenance. I think I might know the answer, but love to hear your recommendations! 😊
@@ShigBro thank you for the question. What’s the budget and what is important in your retirement lifestyle?
@@movingtohawaii thank you for your quick response!! It will be several years ahead, but it depends on how much we can save up and depends on our current house appreciation. Probably ~1M as of right now, but would like to save as much as possible so that we can travel as well.
Hoopili condos look nice, but the “sfh” that Mahe reviewed with another young man were intriguing. But again, we are a bit apprehensive about condos and special assessments...
I’m not a handyman by no means, so minimal maintenance would be great
Duel income earner moving from California. Two young kids. FHA of 300k. 5 year stay. Second home
Love your channel, and this format, especially as a mainlander considering relocating to O'ahu.
My scenario: Single, mid 40's, no kids, large dog. Preferably to live within a 30 minute drive to Daniel K. Inouye International. Probably will rent a year or two as to get a lay of the land before purchasing.
Would you be able to provide me with some areas to consider for rentals, approx 2k/month
So, I'm a nurse and in the process of getting a 3 month contract for work needed in Hawaii. I'm a "haole" (white), but I definitely don't want to upset any locals. Any advice or video recommendations to educate myself about the culture and how to respect the locals?
Can you do a video on a hypothetical client. local married couple dual income. 3 children budget 1.2m
@@SPAMTCG what areas what schools etc
@@movingtohawaii work in Honolulu. Kids currently go to school in Aiea. 1 child is still a baby
Client Profile: Dual income, jobs in town, 2 kids in high school. Previously rented in Manoa, had to move to mainland for job. Trying to move back to Oahu.
Thinking of renting to stay in good school district and then buying home when kids leave for college. Thoughts?
@@sheilaalcantara7738 a lot to learn here. You rented in Mānoa so that tells me you prioritized that area and life instead of somewhere less expensive. Thought is buy somewhere cheaper when school district isn’t a priority anymore? With the limited info here in going to go with buying in Kalama Valley.
@@movingtohawaii mahalo! I’ve visited friends in Hawaii Kai but am not familiar with Kalama Valley specifically. We’ll do some research.
For renting in Manoa - I’ve felt a pull, sense of peace in Manoa. Would love to live there again but I know we couldn’t afford to buy unfortunately.
I know we’ll return to Hawaii someday when the time is right with family responsibilities. It’s a matter of finding the right place for our budget. Really appreciate you folks; your videos make me homesick
With schools being part of a primary reason you chose to live in Mililani...would a move to Makakilo support that? Or would you need to switch to private schools?
@@pitbull2484 for me personally I wouldn’t do private for elementary. Maybe for middle and high. There’s a cool private school over there call IPA. I think about sending them there anyways sometimes because I’ve heard they have a bit of Socratic teaching and entrepreneur paths.
Dont move to Hawaii too many people already!!! if you born in the Mainland stay there.
Family of 5, 3 young kids, no pets, working remotely no commute, $1.1M
@@cheapcardcollector 3 kids, I’d have to know if you’re ok with schools in Ewa, but if you are then you’re going to get a lot more house there and part of the reason is the bad commute, so you’re capitalizing on telework. One of our agents lives in Ewa with 2 kids and a dog. He’s a military spouse. We could have you chat with him.
