    Love all your videos. You are so cool and laid back. Very likeable. I need to look back but have you done videos on living in places like Laie area and Waialua? Those are my favourite areas. I am going to buy once I retire here and move from O’ahu to Kau’ai to be with ohana. I am not a fan of Kapolei or Mililani because from what I have seen they both look so mainland. If I were to buy on O’ahu I think Waialua is where I would buy and live. Oh, I drove to Makakilo once and that was kinda cool. Waipio ain’t too bad but still kinda mainland-.ish. I was shocked to see the outlet center with Michael Kors etc (places I don’t shop at). I buy at Goodwill haha trying to save for my Kaua’i retirement home! Do a video on lesser known and less popular towns to live in. That would be interesting!

    As I commented on another one of your videos. I am an Aunty from the mainland. I grew up as a Native New Yorker all my life. No driver's license, no car! Where on Oahu would be the most Aunty friendly area that is Not assisted living but has amenities within walking distance or by The bus ?? Not really planning on actually moving there permanently just yet. I would want to just visit and vacation there a couple more times before even contemplating that kind of decision.

    Mahalo for the video. Very helpful. Wondering what your recommendation would be on where to live. I'm 64, single, and interested in a 2 to 3-bedroom home with a 2-car garage, mountain or ocean view (higher elevation not at the beach), a half acre to one acre of land would be desirable but not a must-have. Weather-wise, I would prefer a drier climate with some rain. I would imagine I could afford a home in the upper $900K to $1.2mil if I continue to work. I actually thought about Millilani or Waianae. Hawaii Kai would be ideal but not sure if that is affordable. Being close to a Costco would be a plus! Mahalo for any suggestions. BTW: Your videos come across as very knowledgable, casual, and friendly.

    • @movingtohawaii
      @movingtohawaii  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aloha, Robert.
      Sounds like Makakilo might fit the bill! High elevation with ocean views, close to a Costco, lots of 2-3 bedroom single family homes with garage & covered parking (lots of street parking as well), on the west side of Oahu so generally drier - especially with the winds you get from being elevated on the side of the mountain, with occasional rain (again, that you get with elevation).

    highly intelligent and humorous presentation with beautiful video !! As one whose family moved to Hawaii in 1954 and graduated from Punahou in the 60’s ,the Hawaii i encountered as a child was one mired in racism and socio-economic stagnation. It was s high stratified society grounded in agribusiness in which one was either wealthy and white or poor and dark The non whites lived in such poorer communities such as Kalihi Waianae or Kaimuki or Waipahu While such more scenic neighbors as Kahala Diamond Head and Manoa etc were exclusively while Hawaii was We were part of a fledging very modestly sized middle class composed of a few caucasian and many more Asian businessman This middle class because the foundation for the game changing and historic transition from agriculture to a service based economy grounded in tourism & military .This economic change was both facilitated and the result in part of the demise of the caucasian dominated political elite embodied in the local GOP which was replace by a predominantly asian Democratic Party . The face of Hawaii has changed profoundly since 1954 and if their is two word s that characterizes those myriad of changes it would be gentrification and

      By the way. a knowledge of the socio economic history of the islands would provide a greater understanding of Kalihi Valley it was originally. home to predominantly poor Japanese plantations workers who were replaced by Filipinos and Samoans as the Japanese cashed in on the new service based economy and fled to the suburbs …..same dynamic in Waipahu and early Ewa Now gentrification is rearing its head as investors want to capitalize on the demand for home in natural beautiful areas!! in conclusion Hawaii has morphed or evolved from
