I love how Ozi's lightning bending technique is more precise and controlled than Azula's. It's completely different and refined.
WAMatt yeah he doesn't take as long to charge up his lighting like Iroh and Azula do. He's like a older Azula I'm sure she wouldn't of been as good as him when she got older.
jenny castillo pretty sure iroh can probably generate it fast too. He just was showing zuko so he did it slow.
iroh can redirect and direct lightning dont think Ozai can redirect lol
Iroh and Azula charge it up one hand at a time with circular motions, Ozai does both hands at once, probably mastered it whereas Azula is still pretty new to it, since at the beginning of season 2 we saw her practicing it.
Iroh probably doesn't care much for it, he'd rather master making tea while Ozai is power hungry and would absolutely learn to use something this deadly.

Sadek Miah I don't think Dante realizes how much he killed this role. Such a legendary performance, but he never acknowledges it.
The scene of Aang crying as he thanks the warriors for their sacrifice is so beautiful to me.
Such a good character, shows his humanity so well.

The Avatar Hate is a strong word, buddy.
Most protagonists have certain, quite annoying Features to them that make them unlikable (at least in my opinion). Examples would be "Everything comes Easy to them", "they're the chosen one in some way", "they repeatedly Act against Common Sense/what their friends recommend and then see the fault in others" etc. Aang does have some typical annoying main character qualities, but he is more believeable and thus likeable in what he does and how he does it.
I can't quite explain it right, hopefully you'll Catch the gist.

Yeah. The Fire Nation is based off of WWII-era Japan. You can see it in many aspects, like the difference between the industrialized cities and the dirt-poor villages. Also how their society is so military-focused.
You can also see it in "Boiling Rock" parts 1 & 2, the prisons are based on Japanese POW camps.

You can tell when Azula was telling Sokka he couldn't rescue Suki, it made him think of Yue and he got extra emotional.

One very interesting thing about the lightning, is that Ozai actually intended to kill his own son right there. He didnt know Zuko could redirect it, hell, that the technique even existed. He was like "your mom is not here to prevent me from killing you this time" and Zuko was like "I'll do it myself."
That was a legit post episode discussion I'm impressed. Ya'll are some legit Avatar nerds now. The discussion is actually better and more nuanced with the bigger group here but the reactions themselves are far superior as only the Cozy 4 (+ Navi)
I actually agree. I would rather the smaller group in the live reaction then the group discussion to get more perspectives, especially combining the new viewers with older fans.
Reactions are always better in small groups. It's easier to pay attention. Discussions are better in bigger groups because u get more opinions and sides.

I think the lightning redirection was the nail in the coffin for Zuko the boy. I mean with the speech he gave to his father, acknowledging Irohs teachings, and then showing that he's finally found some internal balance (because I recall the reason the technique he was trying with Iroh blew up in his face earlier in the show was because he wasn't in balance with himself yet), I think this was Zukos episode to show that the boy that was obsessed with hunting the Avatar and the man he's became are two entirely different people....and yeah Zuko and Iroh are my boys haha.
The lack of balance is why he can’t create lightning. Iroh taught him to redirect lightning when him making lightning wasn’t working out so he could fight against people who could.

What really gets me about the whole scene with Zuko and Ozai is how fast Ozai whips out that lightning and then, when he’s hit with it, he’s...mildly annoyed at best?

In terms of animated television, Zuko's character writing is some of the best I've seen in terms of overall development, like god damn they did that shit perfectly.
Zuko is my absolute favorite character of all time. The scene where he confronts his father is so well done, and it just goes to show how much character development he's had.

I've been rewatching this whole react series and the thought occurred to me that the reason why Azula can lie so well and why Toph can't tell the difference of her heartbeat is because she's a sociopath, maybe even a psychopath. It's like, I knew this already but I don't know why I never made the connection for that moment lol

See this is cool, because when Blind wave reacted to this, nobody had been talking about the eclipse, so they were all like “Why are they putting on those glasses” and stuff but you guys actually know this stuff since there actually was an eclipse this year! :)
I’m lost. So the people who have already seen the series are talking over important dialogue so the people who haven’t seen it will be even less immersed in the episode and will have a weaker understanding as to how the characters feel, what they’re saying, and other elements of the story............yeah I vote for 4! Lol 😂

Toph appreciation! :P You already notice it is Azula when they enter the room with the shot. The person on the throne sits feminine with her leg like that. Azula is a bad-ass villain. Great speech Zuko, great speech! You tell that crual man who does not deserve to be called father. You are right! Yeah Azula is talanted, even without her bending powers :P I think she also learned some of those moves from Ty Lee. That was a cool shot, Azula jumping through that hole in the rocks where Sokka was, so when teh rest jumped through xD That blindness joke of Azula was her just being a bitch yeah. Loved Ranas reaction there, though xD Gonna mimic Nahid here; Zuko's woke now! Ozai and Azula truely are father and daughter, they both are manipulative and play mindgames.. THANK YOU IROH! He litterly saved Zukos life indirectly here with him teaching Zuko to redirect lightning 0.0 I had tears in my eyes at the ending scene, where they have to leave the rest behind.. That was rough.. I hate wars..
It's not like the eye colors are always tell-tells of what bender you are or where you come from but it is a good indicator because various benders and regions have the most common eye color.

I just want to add about the eye color discussion that firebenders/Fire Nation people typically have gold eye colors (Zuko, Azula, Iroh, Ozai, Zhao, even Roku). And also, did you notice that the final scene of the S1 episode The Fortuneteller, they did a close up of the fortuneteller and her eyes were gold. Dundundunnnnn!

This episode truly made me admire both Zuko and Azula. Zuko finally mustering the strength to do what he's always wanted to do and Azula for being as clever and intelligent as she ever was by bringing Dai Li agents as protection during the eclipse and stalling the Avatar during the entire eclipse. Seriously if there is any female in this show who takes the cake home. Imo It's Azula.
The whole Zuko and Ozai confrontation was amazing and when Zuko redirected his lightning is even better
Jesus Christ. I didn't understand anything about the storytelling when I first watched it on nick back when I was a kid. Now when I was watching it on Netflix and that moment when they showed Zuko following the gang out from the fire nation capital I legit cried. That's how good his arc was.
I can't believe I haven't noticed this until now. At 9:29 when the Fire Nation flag fell, I think that was symbolism for when the tide of the war was truly changing. The moment when Zuko choose his side.

Azula tried to keep Sokka/Aang/Toph around to protect her dad. Ozai literally just tried to keep Zuko around so he could kill him personally.
Cozy 4 works well and is more intimate for the majority of this series. Although the others made some really good points in the discussion, this was perfect and I wouldn't mind seeing this group for the finale as well.

Godammit I watched this show a decade ago, and I JUST realized what Suraj mentioned about Zuko's lightning redirection. I JUST realized that, shit yeah, that is solid ass proof that he IS indeed centered. That confirms it, legit. Years after and I'm still getting awed by this show. Great storytelling.

Regarding the chain, it's an ancient thing. I remember reading once that the Byzantine empire had one across the bay of now-Istanbul when the Turks besieged it...it worked for a while but then the Turks moved ships through land by rolling logs under them
Also in continuing "there may be a better family than the one you were born with" thread -- they did a really good job with toph. Her parents weren't obviously abusive like the fire lord, but the show managed to show that yes, the parents being controlling and overprotective + pretty much emotionally abusive and oppressive IS HURTFUL for the child and that YES its is OK to be NOT OK about it and LEAVE and find Better company, and it is Normal to feel guilty because you know you hurt them and Yes U Can contact them later IF you feel comfortable with it and still go on with your OWN life and not return.
Just wanna put it out there that the writers did such a good job presenting this issue
