    Book bans are a favorite for jails and prisons, as their extreme paranoia lets them consider anything and everything as a ‘threat’. Some even place limitations on the number of books available in their ‘libraries’, with no provision for additions, ever.

    Ontario Canada, the prisons and detention centres have banned books with staples. Especially the calendar/planner books. The staples can be pulled out, and used as a needle, for giving tattoos.
    Toronto's detention centres, ban soda pop, and serve food in Styrofoam or trays, that have to be returned after each meal.
    They don't have Jolly Ranchers, that I remember ... but they have things like Scotch Mints etc.

    Old facilities used bars. Division 1 Cook County still has them. That was where Capone was housed. Modern facilities use solid doors with an access hole for food trays etc. That's only if they are keeping inmates in cells. Very often they're actually in dorms with 40 bunk beds.

    Nothing really surprising especialy the floss and wired notebooks, etc. As a second job, I taught college courses in the prisons, 84 courses over 24 years, ending this year,. And although I taught much less frequently since just before the pandemic and after the pandemic, I've had 1050 prison inmate students, although a few hundred took more than one course from me because they knew they'd learn well in my classes. My dad completed the same college program the 2nd time he was locked up when I was growing up.

    The clips of Orange is the new black brought back memories. I was an extra, playing a correction officer in 6 episodes of the last season. Fun times

  • @shawnhardy-hf7is
    @shawnhardy-hf7is 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

    as someone who worked as a corrections officer for 6 years I can confirm this is 99% accurate and can also tell you that an Inmate made a working crossbow out of paper and a shoelace, the paper was soaked in a mixture of water and some everyday household stuff like starch(we don't know the exact mixture or everything in the mixture but I got to handle it back in 2016) that hardened it and the projectile being a hard candy shank(like the pointy jolly rancher shank you showed) so that the candy dissolving gets rid of evidence. those hard candy weapons are stronger then you think and will stab someone as deep as a metal or plastic shank but is purposely made to be broke off and left in the victims body so no evidence could be found.
    lets now talk tools. inmates use nail clippers as screw drivers and mini wrenches that is after altering a pair of nail clippers with sandpaper(from education) or on the concrete floor they can have multiple tools that can then be used to alter other things or take out special headed screws like the star and "tamper proof" screws. I even used a nail clipper flat head screw driver to un-alter an altered personal fan in the picket one day after I did the cell searches I needed that day with the altered nail clippers and altered fan being some of the contraband I had found and I do say it worked pretty good. I learned alot about what the inmates use from the tattoo artists because of the rep I got early on one tattoo artist asked me what my expectations for the pod was and he straight out told me he does ink and he didn't want to loose money from me coming in there all the time so I told him my minimum requirements and asked him how he conducts his operation and he gave me his top three rules with number one rule being "if you don't bring me a needle I don't do work on you" because he understands about tats being a way of spreading aids and nasty stuff of the like. and over the years he gave me more and more info and insight in how the tattoo operations work and made it easier to shut down other tattoo operations funny thing is when I went into his pod to do a bunk search one day the watcher wasn't at his post and the bunk on the search was a tattoo artist I scared him he gave me a "dummy gun" aka a fake tattoo gun and I was like WTF is this as the inmate said "sorry bossman" and then called my informant over and handed it to him and asked him "WTF is this man" he told me "it's a dummy gun" he handed it back to the guy who gave it to me and told me "alot of other C\O's are so gullible that they see that and think its the real thing and run out with it so proud of themselves but your the son of stan the wire man(my dad was given this nickname by the inmates because he was unrivaled in finding running wire aka the wire planted into the cracks in the floor going from power source to the bunk the booster is placed) so you already knew what the real thing looked like"

      prisons in america are mostly privately owned - they're intended to turn a profit. Which is why they place little-to-no emphasis on rehabilitation. That said, other countries like sweden from what I've heard, keep their prisons government owned. meaning they don't turn a profit, resulting in a greater emphasis on lowering recidivism.

    Slightly off on the orange jumpsuits, at least with US Federal prisons. The orange jumpsuits are only used for transport. Everyday wear is button-up khaki shirts and khaki slacks. Casual wear, like workout sweats, shorts, etc. are grey.

    I mean to be fair on that last one, tea is hot! It can easily be used as a weapon against guards and inmates alike, but to deprive them entirely of all tea is something I can't agree with, at the very least... how about a room temperatured small paper cup of Arizona Iced Tea? ☺️🧡🍵

    I just did 6 years in a federal camp and believe it or not we had everything on this list on our commissary. Federal prisons camps are like all men’s college. I have a lot of fellow inmates compare it to living in a college dorm or a military dorm, minus the military exercises. You ever go to prison in America you definitely want to do your time in a federal prison camp!

    • @synthwolfe8906
      @synthwolfe8906 หลายเดือนก่อน

      nah. that particular use would, if anything, make the act LESS harmful. it's the friction created that rips and tears, add a little oil for lubrication, and it's less dangerous. That said, I was expecting something similar, initially.

    Some books may not make sense such as the web design. IT books are massive. I own “Mike Myer: Comptia A+” computer repair is good skill to have but that book behind bar could be a lethal weapon. I clocks at 1419 pages. That’s why some titles may baffle people. IT books in general tend to be 600+ pages.

    Most people might think some if not all of the banned items are ridiculous but for those of us who grew up watching MacGyver on TV we can see what they do not. You can make some of the most outrageous things out of almost nothing at all. I personally think that's one of the reasons MacGyver was cancelled is because the things he made in the show actually worked and I'm sure some kids (or grownups) tried them out and bad things happened. Lol

    • @chrisbaker8533
      @chrisbaker8533 หลายเดือนก่อน

      AKtually, most of the stuff in macgyver didn't work.
      Mythbusters did a bunch of episodes that pretty much debunked many of his antics.
      As for the shows cancellation, it had to do the cast and crew being a bit burned out, with anderson stating that the physical demands were a bit too much for him and they wanted the show to go out on a high note, instead of meandering on.

    British here, btw i HATE tea! I'm very unpopular at social events 😂 but just wanna say, our prison system is weak AF we need to take a leaf out of USA and other countries' books. Criminals get sent to prisons im gonna name one here, Forest Bank in Manchester England. Someone tried to unalive me, it was declassed from attempted unaliving to GBH and heard in Magistrates court NOT Crown court where serious crimes are heard. The maximum sentence for anything held at a magistrates is 4 months in this forest bank place. He got the max but was allowed to wait until after christmas and new year! Then he went in and only served 8 weeks. The place has a nickname because its more like a hotel. They are afforded times to play computer games, pool and snooker, yes they wear their own clothes, they get 3 square meals a day, plus snacks, some even get day release unsupervised they can leave in the morning and come back at night. They call it a Holiday camp and openly laugh at being sentencedto go there. I suffered permanent damage and i now need pain patches- Butran patches they are called and when this male who had beat me and my daughter ( 12 at the time who was holding my 1 yr old baby girl trying to flee and get help) before kidnapping my son, was told i had to be put on serious pain medicines, then mentioned the patches, I was told that his response was "So what" and a comment about some of the prisoners were on them, and they would freeze them and i assume scrape off the substance to eat/sniff, consume it in some way. If you are reading this and dont know, the pain patch is like a plaster/ band aid that has a shiny part in the centre of the underside. This is stuck to your body and works by slowly absorbing into your skin, so over a week period there will be a certain prescribed amout of the active ingredient constantly going directly in that route rather than pills. ( its not fentanyl- ive only ever known 1 person ever to be even given Fentanyl in hospital- me. And it was via an IV with a pump that could only be pressed every hour or so during a childbirth that was particularly horrific). Speaking of the HUGE miscarriage of justice, ( he wanted to appeal his sentence- but that meant it would be heard in Crown court and of course he was guilty and knew it, if they'd re-trailled in Crown court and found guilty he wouldve been sentenced to GBH, assaulting a child, kidnapping... he wouldve got 20 years at least (10 with good behaviour🤮) He was informed by a relative who was a cop unfortunately, and so he dropped his appeal 😢 But he would have gone to a prison called Strangeways ( Google it if you are ever bored or want to see the British versions of Prison. Manchester where i live is the second biggest city in England coming only after London, our capital city, in the south- everyones heard of London, but Manchester which is North is massively overlooked. So the low security prison was Forest Bank, the high security one is Strangeways, famous for a stunt where many prisoners got onto the roof- (There are sime quite funny pics of that on the internet) and ultimately the whole prison section began a riot of some sort i believe it was in the 90s😮) Apparently its a Harsher place meant for the most serious crimes, but even there, its a holiday a vacation to most of them. As a nation we are too lenient. Example- A male who is in the country cos his parents were seeking assylum here who is 18 but was 17 in August, targeted a Taylor Swift themed summertime event for little 6 year olds, held at a school. He took a big 🔪 in there and injured so many, 3 6yr old little girls were lost. He showed no remorse he was sentenced in the last week, its awful. After he did all that he said he "was glad they were not alive anymore" ( sorry i cant quote due to yt guidelines) he was only given life term of minimum of 52 or 54 years so he will be out of there if he lives long enough. He should've been given the same sentence as those victims' families, but as he has no remorse, he isn't gonna reflect on that. Id 💯% support the D☠️ penalty in cases like this. Thats what the USA would do, theres full on camera footage of him leaving his house, gim in a cab, and in the school so theres no possibility of wrongful conviction. It wouldve been life without parole but nope, all cos he was shy of his 18th birthday - pathetic. Oh, and they found a certain "Group" manual, ton of 🔪 and " that group info" on his computer. So a greater threat- which i believe wasnt included in his conviction or sentencing. I think the parents are Rwandan. Such a nice way to pay our country back for opening its doors for him to be born. I wish i could emigrate to USA so much. 😕

    I could never figure out why prisons allow outside items in in the first place. All letters from home should be printed inside the prison from a digital source. Basic essentials is all that should be given to prisoners, they are paying a debt to society and it should something difficult to live through.

    I think Drugs can be smuggled very easily.
    You can just spray LSD liquid to any ordinary book page ,
    And give it to the prisoner.
    They can use them as LSD stamps and they can sell them to inmates too for money or any other items.
