This is wonderful for those who have a fear of enclosed places. I’ve had many MRI’s in the past years and no matter how much I know what is like I always get a bit of anxiety the first few minutes I’m in.

Just had my first one today, in Thailand. Using the exact same equipment. Anyone who is worried. You have nothing at all to fear. Depending. On your test circumstances. You are in and out in five minutes. The biggest problem is changing into medical clothing. And! The machine is pretty darn cool! Talks to you and everything :) A marvel of modern technology. Worst case. You may need a deep scan. Which involves a I.V of contrast agent. Normally. Gadolinium.
Not a big deal. As you will probably have blood taken before hand. ( under these test circumstances) Eg. Intestinal, Colon ect. The I.V catheter will remain in place for ease of introduction of the agent. My personal reaction to Gadolinium. Was just a hot flush feeling for 40 seconds. No Pain at all. In honesty. The room was so darn cold. It was nice to feel warm again.
Since this is the first comment. I wish you all. The best. And please trust me. You need not fear anything from the open MRI.

Hi Catherine, we can accept NHS referrals from patients who are claustrophobic or obese. You can also request a referral for the open MRI scanner as a private patient, and the cost depends on the area(s) of the body being scanned.

I wished my place have this. I went for MRI today. Less than 10 seconds inside the tunnel I asked to be removed. Very tramautic for me. Have headache, sweating and nausea after the experience. The procedure was to last for 30 minutes!

Is a ct scan an option instead

    • @kattanna109

From what I've been told, a CT Scan is not the same as an MRI. I've had a CT Scan on the same shoulder that I'm scheduled to do the MRI on Sunday afternoon. The MRI shows more detail than the CT scan plus it doesn't give off any radiation.

Open MRI wall more comfortable is not as accurate and precise as the closed MRI for surgery patients.
