Trims, taillights, panels, yep theres people out there desperate for those parts, and even whole cars, when you got skills, nothing is beyond saving. This is a truly sad scenario that us enthusiasts see over and over again. I'm sure there are many reasons that people feel compelled to crush collections like this, with money not being one of them. If you think about it, everything we use or consume continues to rise in price yet the price of scrap does not. I do not see the motivation in scrapping anything, especially pieces of automotive history.

It is a shame that the current owners of the property didn't take the time to set up an auction, which would have netted them a lot more money than scrapping all the cars the previous owner collected. After the scrappers leave with the bulk of the metal, someone has to go back and sort out all the wood from the metal and dispose of that as well. Looks like a war zone after the cars are removed. Current owners must have wanted the quick cash from the scrappers. Now the property is a big mess. Should have sold it with all the cars on it. Very sad end to some collectors good intentions.

@@owlseye32713 I know what you mean.
      I've been helping a friend restore a 64 Bonneville.
It has a lot of one off parts. Especially body and interior parts.
There are a few specialty Pontiac restoration part houses like Aimes, but the 64 Bonneville is still a car of its own in a lot of ways.
It's been a two and half year project.
It was luckily in a garage for the last 24 years, or it would've probably ended up being a parts car itself.
It has 70 thousand actual miles on it.
But the only thing Maintained on it was the body and interior.
And it was wrecked at least once in its life.
The front clip was replaced except for the hood and right fender.
      Wasn't done all that well.
The Core support was bent too.
But probably good enough for most people that don't know any different.
Had the bumpers straitened and rechromed, yes they got used a bit.
Reshimmed the fenders hood, right door, and trunk lid.
Fixed a few dents and made the body straight.
And he chose to have it wrapped. Pearl White.
It's always garaged, and the wrap is Garranteed 5 years, which is longer than most paint is these days, at least here in California.
The engine and transmission were both toast.
The rear end was still good. Although if it ran much longer the driveshaft would've probably litterally fell out.
Some people don't understand noises or vibrations.
Anyway I've already blabed too much.
But the car was almost completely apart.
Just not all at the same time.
It's not a show car, just a really clean driver.
      And a driver it is!
Not like today's cars at all.

This happened to a HUGE yard that we frequented when I was in my late teens and early 20's! The old man knew where everything was. They had trucks with wooden wheels, old milk trucks, every car from every year you could think of. My Brother was looking for a part (convertible top bow) for his 67 Camaro RS/SS and we found one upside down in the mud with 2 other cars stacked on top of it. I had to climb inside and unscrew it! Then one day we found out the old man who owned it passed on, then the township made his Family clean it all up just like they're doing here. It was a sad time to say the least!!!

That happened to me in 1968 when an old guy died who had a big yard full of 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s vintage cars, most intact, nothing newer than 1952. The portable crusher got them all. I used to roam that yard every chance I got as a kid. Nothing ever changed. They just sat there. It was like heaven being in that yard. No one bothered me. No one else was interested. I wish I'd taken pictures. Had a camera. Didn't think of it.

Wow, what a crime. This place must have been amazing in it's heyday! The amount of effort that man put into collecting the cars and constructing the shelters to house them is truly impressive. It's unfortunate that the elements still took their toll on everything, but there was a lot of good useable parts there.
Sadly this seems to be the fate of so many peoples passions. Their collections become too big to manage, they age out and can't supervise what happens with it, and eventually everything ends up sold off by relatives or simply scrapped.

I see a 58 Buick Super among the cars in your epilogue. I have one like it. I'm sure there were some useful parts there. These people should have held an auction like Lambrecht Chevrolet did in Nebraska a few years ago. They're all in rough shape, but people would have bought them either for rod projects or parts, maybe even restoration. My motto these days is don't crush anything. In the early 70s a guy I knew crushed 800 40s and 50s vintage cars, some of which were still driveable; much better than these cars. But back then they were just old junk. He got 20 grand for them plus whatever he got for the batteries and radiators. A lot of money at the time. Even then I felt it was a shame to do it.
