    I'm seriously glad to see DP9 getting back into the RPG scene. I was one of those beta testers of one of the failed attempts. I'm also hoping the tabletop game continues to grow - I'd love to play a game in my area.

    The examples you guys shot at each other regarding the new Skill system really helped solidify my excitement. Noice

    Just a reminder, Blue Comet SPT Layzner got announced for a stateside release and yes it is big news as Layzner is one of the GOATs of 80s mecha anime next to VOTOMS and Five Star Stories.

    So I guess this means New Jerusalem is the John Wick of the colonies. Ha!
    Fine work Zero, and it's fascinating to hear you expand on what's coming up with the Heavy Gear 4th ed and the universe in general, Nick.

      Thats not a bad approximation. New Jerusalem, on the outside, just looked like an agricultural colony to the CEF invaders. That seemed to be a very bad assumption in light of what has happened. Between them, Terra Nova and Jotunheim the CEF shifts from an offensive war to a defense on 3 fronts

    As an artist, I love the stance on AI art. Good job DP9!

      I wasn't sure if the change from attributes to narrative statements. I'm a huge fan of the previous versions. I went on a collecting spree a few years ago and collected all the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd edition books. Anyway, he did a good job explaining how it works. I'll at least have to check out the main book.

      @@ckmoore I know what you mean. I was rather skeptical of the changes at first but I think if done right it can work well. Ultimately as with all RPGs it'll depend on the people at the table.

      @@Zerosum716 like you said if Heavy Gear wanted to make a side scroller like those I would die. I'd throw all my money at it and volunteer to help out 😅

    Interesting video so far. Only a few minutes in... As I recall, 3rd edition opened up a d20 option, but by default was not d20. It used the same dice mechanic as 2nd edition. One of the major complaints I heard was the added "complexity" mechanic in 3rd edition. Seems like an interesting idea on the surface, but horribly difficult to implement for most people.

    • @Zerosum716
      @Zerosum716  ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding as well.

    • @nickhuisman3509
      @nickhuisman3509 ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct I should have been more clear. Weirdly though a lot of commentary we got from people indicated that they used the d20 version. Complexity was the main sticking point for those who did not

    • @simontmn
      @simontmn ปีที่แล้ว

      There's also the d20 Mecha Compendium which converts HG et al to d20 Modern type rules. I'm using that updated to 5e D&D type rules as the basis for my own Heavy Gear RPG campaign I recently started. Great fun so far. :)

      @@simontmn And also includes some "Gear Krieg Modern" mechs from a hypothetical Gulf War era in that setting. Those ones actually got miniatures as I recall.

    I really would have preferred the Attributes to have stayed.
    Maybe something like the version of Heavy Gear that Arkrite Press was working on.

    • @Zerosum716
      @Zerosum716  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's apparently going to be conversion rules from 2nd to 4th edition. Shouldn't be too difficult to reverse engineer them if that's what you prefer.

    • @violencesolveseverything2444
      @violencesolveseverything2444 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zerosum716 I'm counting on those conversion rules and the existence of Operation Jungle Drums (part of the 2nd stretch goal) to convert this back down to 1st/2nd ed or the Arkrite version that I've been slowly expanding on (Beta character creation was released before they closed shop and vanished on us beta testers).

    • @theforgedone
      @theforgedone ปีที่แล้ว

      @@violencesolveseverything2444 How is your expansion on the old beta going? That sounds interesting. I was also one of the beta testers, though when I got in they basically went dark soon after.

    • @violencesolveseverything2444
      @violencesolveseverything2444 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@theforgedone Very slowly to be honest. I have too many personal projects they I keep bouncing between. Only just dusted this one back off a couple of weeks ago when I learned they were rereleasing all the old books as cleaned up PDFs. Since then it has been more reading over what I had (throwing it out) and starting to gather all the PDFs to dig through for any thing I want to make sure I include (like the learning AIs for gears).

  • @violencesolveseverything2444
    @violencesolveseverything2444 ปีที่แล้ว

    Arkrite Press is the one that you had to pay to join the beta test.
