I've come to the same conclusion. I've also resigned myself to the fact that this core trait is a fundamental character flaw that outweighs my empathy and understanding. MAGA is synonymous with bully, bigot, entitled, jealous, willfully ignorant, and joyfully abusive. None of which are socially acceptable, emotionally healthy, or patriotic. However, any one of those personality traits substantially lowers a person's worth in my view.

You’re projecting ma’am. We are the good patriots, the left are enslavers of the middle class and manual labor base. Every liberal I’m friends with does some for of service based work like education or IT/ tech. We are not angry, we are desperate and people like you are not listening and show zero empathy.

Yeah but to state the obvious they're an outcome of social factors. (I.E media owndership laws). It's pretty dumb to get mad at the symptom as opposed to the catalyst.

So, having classified them as persons of low worth....a huge gulf is created. Perhaps some explanation of this divide that is being sold as "new to American life and politics"

I don't care about my reputation and I'll be called a bully or a bigot if it means I'm defending the values I believe will benefit everyone, including those who demonize me. I'm agnostic and I see christians taking this view of sacrifice even further than I would. I'm much less forgiving. Wanting controlled immigration gets me called a racist etc, but I'm also thinking of the victims the lack of control causes, as well as my country's wellbeing. It's not some excuse to keep people out because they're "not like me". I grew up in the 90s telling people that when you call something you don't like "gay", you associate gay people withvery negative things and got into many arguments over that. But I'M the bigot, right.... Everyone suffers from these far left policies even if they don't realize it due to the media gaslighting and I'll face down the entire mainstream media apparatus to challenge that suffering. I think you can extrapolate this sort of dynamic across most of what you might call the core of the "right wing", including classically liberal people who just got pushed out of "the left" because they did not bend the knee.
The idea of having the right to offend someone is a similar thing. It must be protected because the alternative is totalitarian, so people aggressively offend to aggressively defend the right... for literally everyone, including those getting offended.
Edit: before anyone freaks out about impropriety or foreign interference or whatever and presumes things, I'm Canadian. I see MAGA as the American liberals with the literal definition of liberalism, and the left as liberal as only a colloquial label. That's in a Canadian context, where our "center" is much further left than the American overton window.

In fact Hitler explains this element of fascism best "And he who in this people sympathizes with the poorest of its citizens, who in this people sees in every individual a valuable member of the whole community, and who recognizes that this community can flourish only when it is formed not of rulers and oppressed but when all according to their capacities fulfill their duty to their Fatherland and the community of the people and are valued accordingly..."
Submit to a strong man and instantly and without effort you "are valued accordingly" by the community.

Nothing new here, unfortunately. Another way of saying that it's fun for them to make us unhappy is, " The cruelty is the point." We've just been baffled as to why this is fun... Until Harris started getting under Trump's skin. I saw this with my own parents. They're in their 70's, retired, no friends, no volunteering or civic engagement, and they're bored. My stepmom started to spend a lot of time on the basement desktop going on Facebook groups to talk to her "friends". Meanwhile, my Dad was upstairs watching Fox News, and they would take breaks to tell each other the latest horrible thing that has happened and how "Mr Trump" said he would punish the bad guys. We also started to hear a lot more about immigrants killing people at family dinners...

When I was young, I rooted for my hometown team even though a couple of the players on it were not great people. Because that was my hometown team.
Trump's base takes this model and applies it to politics. Trump is their team.
I have a co-worker who supports him through thick and thin, who, out of a belief that all politics are corrupt and Trump is one of a kind, finds a way to excuse everything he does. She's not a hardcore racist. She's not cruel or unloving. She doesn't subscribe to the hate and she won't bat an eye if Kamala wins-life will go on, she told me. But it is her personal belief that Trump is just ... The One, and nothing will convince her otherwise. Trump dares to say and do things, to break taboos, to crash through the morass of gridlock and mediocre consensus, in a way no other politician does. That is undeniable.
Of course there are plenty of Trump supporters that are subscribing to all of the hatred and fascism. But those are definitely in the minority. It's Trump's hold over people like my affable coworker that are his real strength.

In terms of my interactions with other people, I have to draw the line at MAGA. I know many people don't or "can't."
However, my guy (I am cisgender and female in case that matters to anyone reading this - somehow think my profile name here means I am male, I am not sure why.) has conservative points of view but is not MAGA. I identify as far left of the political spectrum. I never thought I could be in a relationship with a conservative but we don't discuss politics only important topics (public education, health insurance, housing, etc.). I accept that my partner has different life experiences and world view from me and yet he also has some progressive views, is open minded, is very supportive of me and treats me very well.
    However, I cannot stomach MAGA.
