I started using hot oil treatments as a pre-poo. They have drastically decreased my tangled hairs and made styling on washday much easier. Game changer for me. I tried putting oil in my DC and rinsing out with water but my hair felt way too oily when styling…..so I prefer it as a pre-poo so that I can wash off with a moisturizing shampoo. Still reap the benefits this way. Great video, I’ll def watch the second one.
Thank for actually explaining why it’s beneficial! I never knew why it was actually important. I can’t wait to take my protective style out and do my first hot oil treatment!
I'm glad I could help, and YES! It's a great way to boost your hair's moisture at any time, but especially so after having done any sort of protective style for an extended period of time. Hope it goes well! :)

Plant based oils no veggie or mineral Sealing( reduce frizz split ends or sealing cuticle ): castor/ jamaican black castor /grape seed or Moisturizing(more growth and shaft): coconut / olive
i am so glad i found your channel, i just recently started loving my curls and i didn't know what deep conditioning is or hot oils and should i do it or my 2a curls or not. now i will definitely do it all and take good care of my hair :) thank you!
thank you for showing when in the process you put in the hot oil treatment, i have been doing it wrong. hope you have a happy new year ! may God bless you today and in the new year.
Thank you for this wisdom. I follow the Brazilian capillary schedule and this explanation falls beautifully under the nutrition phase of the capillary schedule. Big hugs Bella
You really SHOULD shampoo. The oils will not leave your hair if you do not shampoo, and that will lead to build up. Build up will slow your hair growtg
wash that out of your hair!! oil build up will ruin styles, weigh down your hair, slow down your growth and dry your hair out. do not leave that much in!
QUESTION: Why do you need to rinse it off, can't I just lock the oil with a moisturising cream right after? Thank you all for the educational responses!
you can't lock in oil with cream. oil can only seal/lock in cream. you have to dampen your hair before doing a hot oil treatment and the hot oil treatment should include penetrating oils and sealing oils too in order to seal in that moisture from the water and penetrating oils.
also oil is a sealing agent for moisture not a moisturizer i use hot oil treatments as a pre poo and i wash it out right after because my hair would just be hella oily after a hot oil treatment but if you use a normal amount of oil you’re good if it at the end of your moisture routine
This is exactly the kind of content that I need, as I want to know more about the function, steps, and formula. Thank you for this video, will try the hot oil treatment very soon!
Thank you very much, very informative. I definitely plan to include regular hot oil treatments into my regimen after watching your continuation video on the subject. And also doing a porosity check again.
Great video! But I was captivated by your beautiful lashes. This is exactly the type of look I want but for some reason when I go get them done, they could never achieve this look. Are they strips? If not, is there a name for this particular lash style you're wearing because it's absolutely beautiful?
Your videos are so well produced and informative. It is such a simply innovative approach to natural haircare content and quality information you deliver so I amongst many people am really grateful for your time and investment in all you share. Peace love and light
I’m high porosity and I don’t actually see it as a problem or something that needs remedying 😭 I’m not damaged at all but this made me pretty self conscious
Sorry, did not intend to offend at all! You can definitely have healthy high porosity hair! It's just most people tend to have it because of heat or color damage. Hot Oiling is great for hi po hair though, damaged or not! :)
Idk, but I think high porosity hair is not a natural state but damaged from something. That may be my misunderstanding and mistake but it is my experience. Don’t discount dry climate-specifically dry air-for the source of damaged hair if you do everything else right! I can treat my hair right with shampoo, conditioner, etc then on day two it starts fluffing out. Even coating my 2B,2C hair with coconut oil it will be totally absorbed or robbed from my hair by the air 4 hours later! Your discussion on sealing vs moisturizing oils is totally enlightening for me, College Curls! You are totally awesome! You remind me of the parable…give a person a fish you feed her for a day, teach her how to fish and you feed her for a lifetime! You are an awesome teacher!
Hey, I was busy looking for information about hot oil, and I say thank youuu! My question is how many times a week do I hot oil for normal porosity hair?
Thank you for watching! And yes, for sure! Just this year I started incorporating these treatments into my hair weekly and the difference I can see in my hair's shine, moisture retention, and overall manageability is AMAZING!
Hi dear, sending greetings from Germany 😊I could need your help on this: I do this after or before washing (shampooing/conditioning) my hair? Or rather on unclean hair? I didn't know u only rinse with water and not just wash it afterwards...also wouldn't it make more sense to deep condition after the hot oil treatment? Or is doing both a hot oil treatment and a deep condition in the same day too much? I was honestly gonna start alternating week to week...one week deep condition and the next week hot oil but now I'm not sure
Please I have some few things to ask I’m almost 1 year in my hair growth and I can do almost a full cornrow, the back doesn’t want to cooperate 😂but I realized I’ve been doing some things wrong which hindered my growth 1. What products to I need in all for my hair Is it Shampoo, conditioner, I saw some videos talking about moisturizing and they say use leave in conditioners. Does that mean I need 2 conditioners? 1 for miniaturing and one for deep conditioning or wash days Also what ingredients should I avoid in my shampoo and conditioner ? 2. For oils I’ve been using natural rose Mary plant that is used to make oil with Castro oil a hair braider made that for me I mixed it with my natural coconut oil but last week I braided my with oiling because I washed it 2 days before and now it’s been really itching. I oiled this evening and massaged and I’ve not been feeling the itch that much(could it be because we didn’t oil)? 3 . Can u deep condition or when doing poo method still use rice water? Do you wash rice water offf after and can I get my hair braided after using rice water
What’s the difference between plant based oils and vegetable oils? Carrot oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, almond oil, olive oil, etc.. come from vegetables and fruits. And I assume that Palm oil (which is abundant where I live) should be considered plant based. Is mineral oil man made? I not criticizing, I am sincerely interested in the answer.
thanks for this! I never knew about the differences in oils! Question though, my current routine on wash day involves detangling, washing, deep conditioning, and then styling it after. I would like to implement the hot oil treatment after my deep conditioning part, so do you recommend putting a deep conditioner on, rinsing it then doing the hot oil treatment or putting both the deep conditioner and hot oil together then rinsing it after?
I think I got a bit lost at the end. So we're supposed to do it AFTER shampooing? I've seen people do this before shampooing. What are the benefits of doing it before?
Before shampooing is called a prepoo and it’s VERY beneficial mainly for retaining moisture throughout the shampooing process. Here’s a link to my video all about prepooing: th-cam.com/video/L3ZNxhzxNmk/w-d-xo.html Hope it helps 💕
I wouldn’t suggest it as it’s a process that’s meant to be rinsed out after about 30 minutes or so. Any longer than 30 minutes and you won’t be getting anymore benefits from it.
Hello mam ur video is awesome I have a problem with thinning hair and hair growth my hair is shoulder length and stay like that for a long..what I need to do for hair growth..twice I did the hot oil treatment..have applied hair balm different kind of oil but dosent knows what actually work for hair length please suggest thankyou ❤️
Because your hair will likely be super oily, you want to rinse it out! Shampooing your hair afterwards would actually make this hot oil treatment a prepoo (which is totally fine), but with hot oil treatments you can rinse with just water. Hope this helped, thank you for watching and commenting! :)
No, I always do both, it doesn't replace it. I have 4C low porosity and I do it every two weeks after washing my hair, I rinse out the oils as much as I can and then do my deep conditioning.
No, it shouldn’t be used as a replacement but it can definitely be used either before or after deep conditioning to boost the moisturizing experience! Or you can mix oil into your deep conditioner for an even quicker process! There are certain long term moisturizing and rejuvenating properties to deep conditioning that hot oiling doesn’t give, but they work great together! 😊
So this is the first video I watched about hot oil, treatments and lemme say I chose the right one without noticing my dude gave me Jamaican black castor hot oil treatment tube and I didn’t really use too much or so but let’s just say I cannot get the stuff out of my head. It was literally about a week or two. Sealing yes because that thing would not go nowhere compared to all of all that I have used before Jamaican oil 😂
No, I definitely wouldn’t suggest doing it with the grease - it doesn’t penetrate or nourish yourself hair nearly as well as oil does. You can do it with just the castor oil though - plus that oil is known for being great at promoting growth too! 😊💕
Before getting the style installed? Both if possible, it'll only help your hair retain moisture and grow in even better! Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
This is such a cute animation about curls. This would be a nice idea for a kids show.
That's true. That would get kids to appreciate their hair. I know I didn't until I got older.

Because your hair will likely be super oily, you want to rinse it out! Shampooing your hair afterwards would actually make this hot oil treatment a prepoo (which is totally fine), but with hot oil treatments you can rinse with just water. Hope this helped, thank you for watching and commenting! :)
Im from the caribe , this info is helpful thanks!
You’re so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! ☺️💕
Can this hot oil method be replaced by deep conditioning?
No, I always do both, it doesn't replace it. I have 4C low porosity and I do it every two weeks after washing my hair, I rinse out the oils as much as I can and then do my deep conditioning.
No, it shouldn’t be used as a replacement but it can definitely be used either before or after deep conditioning to boost the moisturizing experience! Or you can mix oil into your deep conditioner for an even quicker process! There are certain long term moisturizing and rejuvenating properties to deep conditioning that hot oiling doesn’t give, but they work great together! 😊
Exactly! What they said! 👆🏾👍🏾😊
Abi O oh okay 🙇🏾♂️thank you
CollegeCurls Yeahh I was wondering 😭

Can i use the microwave to heat up my oil?
So this is the first video I watched about hot oil, treatments and lemme say I chose the right one without noticing my dude gave me Jamaican black castor hot oil treatment tube and I didn’t really use too much or so but let’s just say I cannot get the stuff out of my head. It was literally about a week or two. Sealing yes because that thing would not go nowhere compared to all of all that I have used before Jamaican oil 😂
is it ok for me to use the cooled down oil i used from the hot oil treatment in the next few days?
This video help soooo much omggg thanksssss🥺❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pls tell me this works for my straight hair with a small wave to it plsss
If you have dry hair then hot oil treatment should be negative
I know it says hot oil but can u also do this with grease because I wanna mix Doo gro with Castor oil
No you can’t do it with grease
No, I definitely wouldn’t suggest doing it with the grease - it doesn’t penetrate or nourish yourself hair nearly as well as oil does. You can do it with just the castor oil though - plus that oil is known for being great at promoting growth too! 😊💕
Awesome info!
Is it good to mix the oils?
Oh ok! I didn’t know what it was and I’m about to hop on the oil train lol 😂
Glad the video helped and YES, no better time to hop on it! lol
I want to do a hot oil treatment. Is it safe to incorporate essential oils in them as well?

Thank you! 🖤✨🌱
can i mix both moisturizing and sealing oils?
Yes you can
can i use shea butter as one of the oils
Thank you for this video 🙌🏾
You're more than welcome, thank YOU for watching and commenting! :)
Do you do this before or after washing your hair if you want to include this on your wash day
Applying oil to your hair and letting it sit before washing is called a prepoo. You would do a hot oil treatment after washing :)
If I’m getting a protective style should I do a hot oil treatment or deep condition?
Before getting the style installed? Both if possible, it'll only help your hair retain moisture and grow in even better! Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
Thank you for this video! 💜
