    There are 11 modules not 13 as you stated multiple times in the video...I've taken mine apart over 30 times now ,so I already knew that when you said it ,it was wrong. But I do have a question on what the end piece is called? Does it have a name? mine has a few broken clips on it and i need to know what the piece is called so i can repair it. Mine is not charging the car battery now and i believe it is because of the clips that are not making contact now? Thanks good video.....

    • @Ashquacks
      @Ashquacks 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reconditioned means that after the battery is taken apart like shown here, only the individual cell modules (the green and orange) that are tested bad need to be replaced. The bad cell modules are replaced, the battery is grid charged to re-balance all cells, and then sold as reconditioned/remanufactured.

    Great video thanks. I'm here because I can pickup a civic IMA for super cheap with a faulty battery and am considering replacing the batteries with lithium, a separate BMS in parallel to the factory honda one, for balancing, and a charger to make it a plug in hybrid for cheap. I have hundreds of 18650's cells, which have a nominal voltage of 3.6 and a full charge voltage of 4.2 which would mean 4 in series would give me 14.4v nominal and 16.8 fully charged, for a pack voltage of 140v when empty (3.2v a cell) and 182v when fully charged (4.15v a cell) . Then I'd have to parallel the packs to keep up with the current draw (laptop cells only give out 1-2a safely, looks like factory cells give either 6 or 8 amps). So thats 44 X 4 X 8 cells = 1400 cells.
    The only thing I worry about is what voltage the factory system is expecting, how much it draws in amps etc. I need to do more research, or if you have any good knowledge.

      Thank you, That sounds like an interesting project! With the engine running I have seen 170-180V from the IMA motor/generator. I have also seen as low as 120V when the battery SOC was low. I hope that helps.

    What signals the contactor to close. Or is it suppose to always be closed?? When I'm looking at live data its shows the close on start up, and then opens. When it opens the IMA light comes battery light. I'm new to these hybrids

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should always be open when the car is off. They will normally shut when you power on the car. The "Ready" light indicates they are closed. they are closed by the battery computer when it determines everything is good to go.

    Hi, can you help me? I have a Civic 2009 Hybrid. The battery have 174 Volts, (checked with multimeter) and it can't turn on. Only gasoline engine starts, with red battery warning. Usually I solve the problem turning on the car (gasoline engine) and waiting a few minutes sometimes the IMA blower turn on. I wait to hear the blower power off, then I turn the key off and again turn on. And the rear battery start with no problem. Red battery light turn off. What could be the problem?

    It was hard to see, was that isolator switch halfway between the series batteries like the plug on a Toyota?
    All these high voltages do worry me in modern cars.
    Especially with the advent of super capacitors which will end up in many components in the car. I think it will get harder and harder to determine what is safe and what could kill.

    Dear professor Kelly, I have replaced two of battery sticks, followed the instructions strictly, but after reassembling, ima, check engine and red battery lights are lighting on the board, the hybrid system is not functionally. In the junction board (from the flat washers) I have measured aprox. 70 and 90 volts, each of battery elements have 15,4 volts min. but after I reinstall the battery in the car, and put the switch in the on position, the multimeter indicates 0 volts in collective + and - connectors. After I make the engine start, from the inverter-converter I measured aprox. 90 volts to the IMA battery, and aprox. 11,5 volts to the 12 volts battery. Can you help me, with some instructions, tips, please, to make my hybrid functional again?

    If you tell which cells were dead and had access to another battery pack the same you replace the dead cells from the other battery pack.
    Sorry i am still learning about such things.
    I know that rechargeable battery drills use C cell batteries when they are opened up then you find which ones are dead and replace them.

      A Honda scan tool can tell you that. You can also check the voltage of each module, but voltage is only a partial indicator of condition. You could have a worn out cell with voltage that is close to a good one. A load test is the best method.

    I see 22 ( 2x5 +2x6) battery units each with 7.2V (6x1.2V) = 158.4V

      If one lithium-ion cell at 3.7 V average replaced three nickel metal hydride cells, then with only 44 cells you can replace this battery. 44 x 3.7 = 162.8 V

    Any ideas how long the batteries will last before it starts degrading? Would you say Honda or volt will get 5-7 years before complete replacement battery is required?

    • @WeberAuto
      @WeberAuto  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Early Hondas were terrible, but since 2014 have been great. Volt are great too. More than 5 years. probably closer to 8-10 years.

    • @ericeinar
      @ericeinar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the Volt it probably is at least 10 years. They don’t want to replace under warranty many batteries. The Volt is guaranteed 8 years or 100k.

    I have one question about the in-line series connections on the individual battery modules. How are the D batteries conencted as such? Welded with the plastic acting as support and insulation or is there metal contact within the plastic connections forming the serial connections?

    I am trying to get some information about Honda's 3rd gen Earth Dreams Hybrid Technology (i-dcd). What's the size of the lithium battery? How far will it travel in ev mode only? What's the hp and voltage of the electric motor? Can anyone shed some light? How about a pull down video.

    Your breaking down major impediment walls here...
    Mate, it seems a Big section of the angy resistance: rejection of this latest technology transition from, the 'currently, lazily, comfortable with' horse&buggy transport systems to the over all far, far superior[/'betterer'] internal combustion engine rapid propulsion is,,,, Oh,, OOPS! Sorrys, that script was from 130+ years ago and, Hmmm, we got passed that one AOK hey!
    ,,,Start again ... Ahem,
    ,,"A Big part of the angy resistance: rejection of the technology transition from, the 'currently, lazily, comfortable with' internal combustion engine rapid propulsion systems to the over all far, far superior/'betterer' electric assisted rapid propulsion motivation systems is," - **fear of NOT understanding**.
    If people don't understand, they/we tend to be afraid of it. If they/we can see its, actual realitive simplicity - fear vanishes, acceptance and adoption proliforates.
    Your step by step explainations simplify systems comprehension - even for 'dolts' like 'moi'.
    Man, in real fact, what a difference to the planet your making here.
    As a 'learn by watching' vs doing or, reading mind, your vids are 'bulls eye' understanding here. Direct, Simplified, Articulated Precisely, i.e. the cell connection flow stickers and the door panel trim tool(was wondering where ya got that) [that's when Ifelt compelled to pass on this compliment].
    LOL, usually 'quaffing' @ dudes self-advocating their annointed titles but, here,,, Professor, with great respect, look at it on your office door name plate with due proper pride Sir.
    Taa Mate ! [Oz lingo for "Thankyou Sir"].
