Leave you plug out, pour oil in... it will push out the shavings left over. ALWAYS DO THIS. ITS A MUST.
Also you don’t wanna push the bit to far on most cars have a pick up and somtimes a plastic block 2 in Infront of the oil plug hole!!! So you could mess your engine up. So don’t put the bit past the threads.
On my bmws and Mercedes I have to be care on not pushing past 1 3/4th inch past the plug hole.

No way will this actually flush em out?

      Absolutely

@@killaslaye yes. You never wanna run a engine with shavings IN the pan unless you run a 5-10qt flush. Even threading your bolt in half way and letting each 5qt fill up then Unplug so it gets shavings up out the walls aswell. So fill 4-5 qts the unplug. Repeat. And repeat.
Now If you drilling your drain plug then you DONT wanna plug and fill. Just run it through it. You don’t wanna plug and the oil push the shavings up with a lot of fluids so if your fixing A plug you GOT TO leave the plug out and run oil thru it. Then another way after to ensure you got all shavings. Is some grease and rub your new threads with it it will pick up shavings aswell. But the oil flush is a MUST

I've seen some videos that use helicoil or timeserts. This seems much easier (and cheaper) than the timesert/helicoil. Are there any advantages/disadvantages for doing this over a timesert/helicoil? Also, will this work on steel pans (2001 Toyota Camry for example)? thanks in advance.

      Helicoil are amazing! And cleaner.

I have to have this done to my 2004 mustang GT. The guy at jiffy lube striped mine and I did not find out until I needed a fresh oil change . STAY AWAY FROM JIFFY LUBE PEOPLE

BUY AN ECOPLUG ON AMAZON THERE IS NO BETER WAY.THE GREATEST OIL DRAIN PLUG EVER INVENTED.I have been using them for years on all my vehicles never a leak or a problem regardless of whether the oil pan treads are steel or aluminum good or bad it doesn't matter and changing your oil with an ecoplug is safe and clean the plug installs and removes literally in seconds.
