    At 3.19 you said the the number written represents the number of electrons donated by the ligand. But I think it denotes the number of atoms of the Ligand bonded to the metal, while the number of electrons donated will be different. For example if the hapticity is 1 then the Ligand is attached to the metal through one atom, while the number of electrons donated is 2. Similarly if hapticity is 3, Ligand is attached through 3 places but the number of electrons donated is 4. Clarify me if I am wrong. Thanks

    Sir can we apply 18 e rule to the complexes which have metal metal bonding like [Mn2(CO)10]?...I mean does it follow the rule..and if it does how can we tell ? Please clarify sir.

    • @AllBoutChemistry
      @AllBoutChemistry  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sarjot Kaur,
      18e rule is followed by almost all the metal Complexes except the one having square planar geometry, they follow 16e rule.
      For a metal complex having M-M binding in order to check whether they follow 18e rule or not you should know the number of M-M bonds. Now if there are 1M-M bond just add 1 to the TVE of metal, if M-M bonds are 2 then add 2 to the TVE value.

    • @simranvasir1443

      and in 3rd option there are two mn why dont we count 7 two times?

    • @AllBoutChemistry
      @AllBoutChemistry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is a secret, if you dont know anything about a particular organometallic problem, just count 18e an dyou will get the correct answer.

    • @simranvasir1443
      @simranvasir1443 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok but what about Mn we take it 1 time to calculate valence electron?

    • @AllBoutChemistry
      @AllBoutChemistry  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To apply 15e rule you've to take one metal at a time in a bi metal complex. You can't take both metals together.

    SIR IF A given complex bonded to nitrosyl ligand with some other ligand then how we can know the bonding mode of NO ligand ? I mean that whether it is bonded to linear mode or in bent mode. and during calculation of total valence electron how we can decide the contribution of NO ligand ( 1 or 3 electron) . plz clarify it. thanks

    • @AllBoutChemistry
      @AllBoutChemistry  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      See practically htey should not ask a question like this where they will just give you a complex with nitrosyl without mentioning its structure imeaan whether it is linear or bent, yet if some question is there where it is not specified then you have to take the form of nitrosyl which would satisfy eighteen electron rule.
