Life aboard an aircraft carrier is undoubtedly tough and exhausting. Sailors on an aircraft carrier are responsible for a wide range of tasks, and they often work long hours in challenging conditions.
Another challenge is the limited space and privacy available on an aircraft carrier. The ship is crowded with personnel and equipment, and sailors may have to share small, cramped living quarters with several other people. There is also limited downtime and opportunities for leisure activities, as the ship is always on the move and sailors are often busy with their duties.
Additionally, sailors on an aircraft carrier may face challenges related to being away from home and their loved ones for extended periods of time. Deployments can last for several months, and sailors may not have regular opportunities to communicate with their families or take leave.

I’m a proud Navy Dad. My son is currently forward deployed in Japan and assigned with USS Ronald Reagan. He flies the F18E Super Hornet. I wish and pray for them to be safe always. Thanks for posting this video.

My Dad turned 95 years old on December 31st, 2022... was on a carrier during WW ll. My Dad traveled all around the world. He still talks about his amazing Navy experience and loved every minute of it!!
My dear father passed at 97 years in 2021, WWII Navy Veteran. Served on various ships his favorite, The Upshur. Great man loved his Country proud American. Loved the sea his buddies. Shared many stories incredible memory for history. For 45 years he said Liberals (Marxists) will destroy America. Man, was he right! I served on the USS Coral Sea CVA 43 during the Viet Nam War. I worked with guided missiles that went onto the planes. 12 hrs on & 12 hrs off. I was lucky as I worked from 7 pm to 7 am so my shift was fine. I love ever minute of it & am proud to say that I have served.

I am a Navy vet and served as a commissary man on the old USS Randolph, CVS 15 which was de commissioned in 1969. She was a much smaller ship and served through WW2. We served as an ASW ship and hunted submarines. It is really amazing to see all the changes that have taken place on a carrier since my days. I very much enjoyed the time we spent at sea and the places we visited. True we worked hard every day at sea but it was truly rewarding. I envy all of these young people serving on these ships and thank God for them serving our country. I also very much enjoy these Documentaries, Thank you.

Thank you all for your service! So much skill and hard work making it look effortless. My dad was in the US Navy during the Korean War. He became a firefighter after he got out and rose up the ranks to Asst Chif. He was also a pilot, CFI and taught me to fly at 15 yo. We’d go out before high school and his work. After retiring, he and Mom, with my brother helping when not at school or work, built 2 experimental aircraft, a Long-Eze, then a Glasair 2RG. They flew both planes all over the country going to air shows or to the beach. I miss flying with Dad so much. RIP Mom and Dad ❤️❤️

Thanks for this great story. My dad was a SeaBee on Tinian. I was honored the accompany my oldest son, a Marine, aboard the USS America on a "Tiger Cruise" going aboard at the end of Fleet Week in NYC, sailing to Norfolk, allowed to wander the ship at will, watching a launch, a Tomcat supersonic flyby, and then revovery of the planes. I had my own bunk with the marines in my sons group. The cruise gave me the greatest respect and gratitude for our Navy. God Bless the Navy, and God Bless America.

As an ex RAN sailor i had the opportunity to go on the Nimitz and the Midway. The US Navy personnel are experts in their field, friendly and accommodating. I continue to be in awe of these giants of the sea (and jealous of the crew). US Navy carriers are where it’s at!!
Been 30 years since i last stepped foot on the flight deck. Spent 6 months , 12 hour shifts on the flight deck as a plane captain aboard the Kennedy (CV67). It was the most exciting time working up there, loved every second of it. Watching these videos brings back so many memories, and it’s interesting how many things really haven’t changed except todays sailors sure do get better food than we did back then.
I have a part me (my son) is on the CVN 77 on deployment at present, I hope he and all the rest of the sailors are enjoying their trip, it's his first and I do wish him and all the others crew members on board a happy, safe, memorable trip and may God keep them together until their return to our shore...
No sweat, as long as there is no WW 3, or a nuclear exchange with China/Russia everything will be okey dokey hunkey dory...
God bless the moms, dads, spouses and children of all our active duty and deployed men and women. It is a difficult job being the silent strength that helps to fuel our uniformed loved ones. They need your support first and foremost. I am the proud wife of a retired US Marine with several deployments, but I'm not here to brag about our military life, I do miss it though, I came to brag up the silent members. My uncle and his son served in Navy. I salute every one for the very important work they are doing.
If I was a young person again, I would definitely repeat my tour of duty with the Corps. Being on a naval vessel in the middle of the south china sea just waiting for something to go down was exhilarating. Tough, grimmy, cramped, hot. I wouldn't have traded it for the world.

My first and only active carrier duty as ships company was on the U.S.S Independence for 3 and 1/4 years to the Mediterranean Sea. From a Seaman Recruit to Seaman as a Boatswain Mate for a year transfer to 3rd Class Petty Officer to a 2nd Class Petty Officer Data Processor Technician. I did get on several Carriers as a guess during my active duty and during my reserve time for work that needed to be completed. My twilight tour was returning to Indy for the second time in Japan, and my last time to see her would be Banger, Washington in her mothball stage. This film is true with more that I didn't have in my time as active duty. Thanks for the old memories
I just got back from Everett Washington. My grandson is stationed there and for my birthday he was able to take me on the destroyer he is on. It was the best birthday ever. Now that I have seen this video I do appreciate more everything he does. Very proud of him. Very thankful for our armed forces.

I served 20 years in the navy. I was in CV 59 USS Forrestal , CV 61 USS Ranger, CVN 70 USS Carl Vinson. I’m glad I stayed in for 20 years, my benefits alone helped me a lot especially now that I’m retired. No problem whatsoever on health and life insurance.
My son and I had the pleasure of touring the Carl Vinson with one of the crew when it called into Hobart, Tasmania on its way home to the States from one of its deployments, it was an awesome experience as my son who was about 8 or 9 at the time got to sit in the Captains chair, he just thought it was great! of course this was before 2001 but I will never forget the experience. Thank you to all who serve whether you are Australian or American.
My son was on the Carl Vinson, on the flight deck. I thought he had a safe job hahaha surprise 🙄

My brother was an ET on the Forrestal in '67
I served in the navy 1981 to 1985 and was stationed in Sigonella Sicily. As a female at that time, we were not allowed to be on a carrier or any war oriented vessel. This was prior to desert storm. But I was an aviation machinist mate (AD).
The logistics of an aircraft carrier are simply amazing.
I had always figured the “running” of an Aircraft Carrier or ANY of the naval vessels was a huge undertaking & this video shows & explains that. Still higher than my “figuring”. 🇦🇺🇺🇸

Thanks for the video. It brought so much memories. I was on the USS INDEPENDENCE and since then, I have never had a similar experience. As a trouble shooter on the flight deck for GSE (Ground Support Equipment ), our RFI (Ready for Issue) status was always 99.9%. God bless America.

Hi there, Yes I am an old salty guy. I served 25 years and more than 20 on ships at sea, CV-41, LHA-5, Destroyers, Cruisers and Amphibious ships. The food was not good, like you showed, often times moldy bread, Spoiled milk (chunky), old (brown) lettuce, bugs hopping around on the cereal, food package wrapping in the food. Boy, they showed you while filming, really good food.

as i know there is no chance too see those amazing vessels during the operation. but if you have that option to visit the san diego then you can have a tour at US MIDWAY. thats pretty much same as the others but the retired one. that was the first us aircraft carrier was built at 1945 and finish her job by 1992.
If you are in NYC sometime visit the Intrepid carrier and aviation museum.
The US midway in San Diego. I think it's on average a hour long tour, I took two hours. Such an amazing experience.

I was stationed on the USS America, CV-66, 1976-1979. From your video, life on a carrier is a lot better. We didn’t have ship stores, the food at times was terrible and we never had a swim call. As a Quartermaster, I worked on the bridge so we had a great view of what was going on. At times we would hit storms where some waves came on the flight deck. I felt bad for the other smaller ships because in a bad storm, I saw a destroyer come out of the water and then go under the waves. Saw the power of what water can do to a ship. As a master helmsman, I would be assigned to the helm during replenishment at sea. I learned how ships can collide at sea. Now my ship is anchored at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. She was a great ship!!!!!
A lot of this is embellished for the cameras. I was on the Reagan in '08 and they most certainlly did not have chefs hand carving meat for the crew. The ship's store is just about the size of a gas station store to buy sodas, snacks, and cigarettes.
What happened to the ship?
After they decommissioned her, the Navy decided to take her out and see how good her armor is against modern weapons. After all was done to her, the ship’s armor held up and they couldn’t sink her. At the end, they just pulled the plug and now she is an artificial reef. RIP to a great and wonderful ship.

I served on the Theodore Roosevelt CVN 71 during operation enduring freedom. I'll never forget what I felt when I first saw that Carrier. it was very intimidating& I never thought I would see the day where I would say that I miss it..#Vs32
I was in the Navy for 5 years as an aircrewman on P-3C Orion's which are land based only so I've never been on a ship. One of my bosses retired after 30 years and never stepped foot on a ship. He just kept rotating betwween P-3C squadrons which are considered sea duty because we go on 6 month deployments and shore duty - he was an AOCM (NAC).

In 1953, the FDR carrier came to Beirut Lebanon. My Uncle Mike was crew on that magnificent ship. As a young student, along with my folks we got to take a cruise for a day and watch what went on aboard, and it was fascinating. Not the same as it is today, but nonetheless impressive. We watched old prop powered war planes launched and recovered, and got to eat with the crew and tour most of the ship. One of the hi-lights of the day was an exhibition Basketball match between the Ship's Navy Team and the world renowned Harlem Globetrotters. That was a day in my life I will never forget.

I served on the USS Bon Homme Richard CVA31 and USS Constellation CV64, Both served in the Gulf of Tonkin during the Viet Nam War. I experienced swim call out at sea! I Never seen the ocean so calm like glass!

From Thomas Courts USS Wasp CVA 18. This is light years away from my 4 years 52 to 56. In engineering I could still go anywhere including the flight deck during launches. With no AC I could sleep in a gas station under the flight deck. I was also required to spend 3 mouths assisting the cooks. During swim call we always had a boat in the water looking for sharks.
Got lucky, never did the mess crank thing. Most of the ones that got sent cranking never came back, they wound up just staying in the supply department. As for the swim call thing, on all the ships I was on never had one swim call. A few steel beach picnics, but zero swim calls.
It's a good life. You just do your job and about once a month you get to go to a different foreign country. That's really awesome. It's really awesome to sleep on a ship aswell. It's like being rocked to sleep. It's a good deal.

A wonderful video, I enjoyed every minute. I wasn’t able to serve due to family circumstance and interference. I will grieve for the rest of my life for this missed opportunity to serve my country and not being able to fulfill my lifelong dream that I held from early childhood and well into adulthood. Although it may make me sad to watch navy videos time to time, these are my favorite types of videos to watch. I cant tell you how proud I am of our military with your hard work and dedication. You all are the cream of the crop and role models for America. I pray you stay safe and for the well being of your families.

I served aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt CVN-71 from 86 to 90. I missed being a Plank Owner (a tradition when you are ships company when commissioned) by one month. We did a Caribbean cruise, a North Sea cruise and a Med cruise during my time aboard. We made countless one or two week cruises at the beginning for shake down. When a new ship is built, there's a number of sea trials and planned events that are called acceptance trials. So the first year was spent in and out of Newport News ship yard and Norfolk Naval base. The best thing I remember was how good the chow was. All the bread and pastries were baked fresh daily. I remember that when a tray of bread came out of the oven, the Mess Specialist would ring a small ship bell and that was the cue. A large hunk of 10 minute old sourdough and half a stick of butter...magic. The best way to keep a sailor happy is thru their stomach. And they did that well. I got out just as Desert Storm was brewing up.

I served on the USS Hancock CVA 19 during the Viet Nam War 1964/1967 as a machinery repairman in the machine shop it looks like life aboard ship has changed a little to the better.

I like ike. I served on the Eisenhower for 2.5 years 1988-1990. I was a Dk2 serving in the pay roll office auditing documents and payroll records for errors and out of balance accounts of service men on board. I handled officer accounts. When I was discharged from the Navy I had the distinct honor of holding the record of fewest out of balance accounts on any Naval ship in the entire US Navy. I really enjoyed my time onboard this beautilfull ship.I established an error rate of .00001. As far as I know, this record still stands. My Captain was CO7 (Commodor) JJ Dantone. He was awesome. Apparently, the Eisenhower was used to create this video, or, at least most of it.
