What makes the whistle sound in between gear changes?? is it the turbo or the gearbox? Does this whistling sound only happen in Turbo models? What about in F10 and F16 models? This sound has baffled me for years. It's so awesome! Does this model (1993???) truck have the Jake brake installed? Very cool truck

Yup it's a must I'm not a trucker but I know how to drive them you have too eventually do it just right you can clutchless shift I do it every once in a while in my car it's called trucker style shifting truckers do it, the way you can tell is if you hear the engine rev up and the time it takes to change gear takes longer but then afterwards changes gear it's clutchless I think on a semi truck the sweet spot is at 15 or 1700 rpms on a car it's like 28-3100 rpm
Volvos are'nt fitted with Cummins bud..they make their own engines. This is the Volvo F12 with TD120 engine from the late 70's to early 90's - 12 litre 400bhp. We no longer have trucks in Europe with Cummins, which is a pity. No offence meant. Apologies.

felonau Okay. The sound between gear changes is directly by the turbo. If the truck is with straight pipe, this is the sound.

If it were a non turbo it will be louder than this too turbos tend to quiet down and depends the exhaust a little bit.
