      Lol lol 😂 😂 actually I think it's the other way around. JW are the reason I learned around 8 years old that we don't answer the door if we aren't expecting someone. Nothing good happens. Not even for a neighbor. (That's actually worse because it's usually a Karen).

      As a process server I feel like Jahovahs Witness definitely makes it harder for us too. I’d rather be served process than be bothered by the JW.

      Does a process server have to say "You've been served."? Can a person be served in a court hearing with the paperwork in the middle of other paperwork stapled and not be told.

    The thing that always get the job done for me is I always am overly nice and make it sound like it's not a big deal or even a good thing by the tone of my voice and wording. It's surprising how many people don't know what a deposition is so I just breifly explain a deposition in the most friendly fashion.
    I also found they are more willing to accept when you explain the reason for the subpoena rather than just telling them it's a subpoena.
    "hey brother I just have some papers for you to testify at a deposition" sounds better than saying "hey I have a subpoena for you" lol
    This is why 90 percent of they are willing to sign for it.
    But then the other 10 percent of the times they hit me with a vehicle, assult me physically, or pull out a gun... Which is why as much as I hate it... I will wear a bulletproof vest with a camera for protection.

    Tip for helping with identity and getting into locked locations: Just say you’re with doordash, postmates, etc. and bring an empty food bag (or buy something cheap)

    When I’m having trouble getting into a secure building I put the papers in a school binder. When I see someone walking up I pretend to be making a phone call. I then explain that my friend left his binder at school and he’s not answering his phone for me to drop it off to him. I’ve never not had someone let me in

      Derrian_7154 correct. In Utah, a service is completed by notifying the defendant what you have then leaving it on the ground if they wont take it. I do it all the time.

    I had my ex served years ago.
    A female matching her basic description answered the door and took the papers.
    So I got my divorce. It took her a couple years to find out. Either way I am happy now.

    Can I be able to record myself writing on a sticky note, “you been served” and duck tape the letter on the person car and then record them looking at the letter and note?

      True story;
      I was with a guy being served. Server walks up, says “are you so and so?” Says that twice. Guy I’m with says nothing, stone face walking to my truck. We both get in the truck and server tosses the paper work in the bed of the truck and I drive off.

      @@getabagbrick1444 technically yes. But ‘Someone’ directly wrote to the attorney to say the process server was mistaken and idk what he’s talking about. Which made the service ineffective. That then led to me being harassed for 6 months nonstop. Good times 👍

      As long as you’ve identified them and told them what you have for them, even its it’s yelling through the door, then you drop the papers and its a legal service.

    My ex moves into gated apartments. What always works for me is drive behind a vehicle that opens the gate to parking. My friend is then able to walk to his apartment and serve him. I find this more effective than to have someone open the door tenants use to walk through.

When the Sheriffs department could not serve my ex that is when I took action. Serving him the way I did was the best option no matter if someone judges me for it. Got him served and I won my case against the attorney he hired. Special thanks to the innocent, wonderful person that opened the gate 😄 they unknowingly helped remove a toxic problem from my life 👌

    We had a process server come to the door once dressed as UPS. I was on the them. I had my 13 year old run around the front of the house and blast him with paint ball fun lmao he left. I filed bankruptcy . It all worked out great

      We don't have to in my state, and so I pretty much never do. No point; it just creates unnecessary drama. I am there to make a fast delivery and get paid not to satisfy my ego. All that extra drama only cuts into my bottom line, and if it makes my client look bad in the process, there is a good chance they won't hire me again. It may vary from state to state, though.

      So as long as you can identify them, its fine to just drop the papers on the porch and yell through the door saying who you are and what you have for them and thats a legal service. I have that happen at least 2 or 3 times a week.

      Twotimer nope. As long as you don’t represent yourself as a government employee or a police officer. But its not a crime to say you’re an employee of a private company. Just remember to reveal that you’re actually a process server and that you’re there to serve them once you get them to speak with you.

    I appreciate the Intel. And I'm sure a lot of others do too. Now everybody knows the extras to look out for when they're being served. If anyone on here feels like a lawsuit is coming just go on the local court records and see if you were in the database every other day. That will serve as an early warning notice that you are going to get served and you'll know to lay low. If you have a field job this should be easy. I love a good cat and mouse game. Lol

    Is there a way for a process server to take a list of license plates in a parking lot and find out who the owners are and were the addresses of registrations get mailed to?
    If that's illegal but they have a cop buddy that will supply them with that information does the cop really worry a license plate was given out to a server?
    Do any programs or apps allow you to get license plate owner info?

      You can look up any license plate number. I once had to put the person name into the country public record and seen they had a speeding ticket. It list the lpn

    Please give ur opinion on this scenario. Process server is walking across my lawn as I’m walking out of my house to my car. Being served doesn’t even cross my mind. He says are u Will Jones? (Not my name) I say, nope. “Ur not will jones?” Nope. Never heard of him. “Well u look like him “. He drops the Manila envelope at my feet. And walks away. Nothing written on envelope. Since I’m not expecting to be served I finished getting my things ready to get out town for work. I shoot a video focusing on this packet on the ground. and state exactly what happened. I say what should I do? Leave them or see who it’s for? 4 out of 30 I sent to all said don’t touch them. I agreed that the guy made a mistake and would be back. I left them there. 10 days later I arrive home. Still there. I then open. Was for me. Custody case. I would have gladly taken them . It cost me 10 days preparation. And I was one day late responding cuz Presidents’ Day was a Monday and courthouse was closed. Judge ruled default judgement. I lost all parental rights. So, was I served. ? What’s the point of calling me another name?

    I agree with some of these, I've used the flower trick a couple times. As far as dressing like shit....I would never answer the door for a random person dressed like an asshole. Just my opinion

    The only way my girlfriend was able to serve her sister after numerous attempts was via email is this something that is only available because of the corona virus or had this always been a way to serve someone. when my girlfriend did this it was almost like she had to school the entire courthouse on the fact that you can indeed serve someone via email.

      @@aregup007 it’s not really liable becus they can simply delete the email or they can trash it even if they opened it they can say someone else opened it n possibly trash it I don’t see how this would work .. Unless they are honest enough to respond and make a copy and respond to it but I do t see that happening this is why it’s highly affective getting served in person

    My server today was probably shook how easy I was. Standing in the driveway watching the neighbors body get taken out, he showed up and I was like "oh there you are! Already had 3 lawyers send mail trying to get me as a client!"
    Can confirm if I hadn't been outside, that door would never be opened lmao I know what I'm expecting

      i have no idea what this means! You were watching a body being taken out of your neighbour's house. And you were being served papers over whatever crime caused your neighbour to be dead. And they were serving you before the body was even out of the house?!! And you gladly received the papers, but if you hadn't been outside you wouldn't have opened the door.

      @Mr. Mike all im saying is this is a tough biz. You gotta do what you gotta do to get the service completed for the client whos paying you. I wouldn’t interrupt the funeral but i would wait by their car and serve them when its done.

    In difficult serves. If the client doesn’t want to pay for waiting time. I always go to the neighbor and ask if the person I’m serving lives there. When they reply no. For the most part. They’ll provide information. Or they will tell me. They’re home or that’s their vehicle they are home.

The server, much like a police officer, will lie about serving. And, my goodness, how are you people hate being filmed. You’ve done a great service.

    I wear a messenger bag and I keep the paperwork on a clipboard I usually don't get a whole lot of issues!
    But I do a lot of summons and complaint so if I can't get them I can always nail and mail!

      @@bythedog Hi, process server here. Thanks to social media, I have usually conducted my due diligence and have photographs and/or descriptions of the subject, family members, and known associates. My affadavits in these cases will include the photos of subjects or etc

    So, if you’re a process server, it’s OK to lie about who you are sneak in behind tenants in a gated community like you belong there talk to neighbors and tell them other peoples business that they have no business knowing oh and then you subject use subterfuge to get information out of little children. And then you wonder why you guys get assaulted. Add that to the seven in the morning cop knocks in the aggressive behavior you guys get whatever you deserved and if you get served good

    Who doesnt open the door for Amazon? Uh... Me... When I dont see the Amazon van parked out front or when I know I am not getting a package... Dont stand in front of the peephole, stand to teh side... Yeah, guess what? It's 2021, people have cameras and rings, I will know you are coming up to my porch before you even knock. Hell, I will see your car parked 2 doors down before you even get to my porch to attempt to knock... I dont open the door for ANYONE unless I know who they are or I am expecting company. Neighbor wont work... I can clearly see in my camera, you arent my neighbor, why you lying...

      It’s more about the fact that no one wants to go to court, get divorce papers, etc. The system may have flaws but, people not wanting the negative consequences of their actions leads to a dog and cat esque chase that’s gone on forever, nothing new, and is not because of the system, it’s just human nature.

      @@getwhatyougive if you killed someone would you turn yourself in even if you believed the killing was just? Most people would say no. So for those people it may be dishonest in the ways you might find their whereabouts to send them to trial, it is a lesser evil than killing or other crimes, but I do agree if you're serving summons for some bullshit corporate lawsuit, it's probably worse to lie about your intentions, a better solution would be to give them the summons and tell them of good lawyers for that type of case. I'm telling you this assuming you want to find a better system as opposed to simply complaining about it to feel better.
