    When people ask me why I think basketball was better back in the 80’s and 90’s… this is why! Players back then didn’t like each other on the court. They weren’t laughing it up, being buddy buddy. The players back then hated their opponents, wanted to kill them. That’s what real champions do!! Give me 80’s and 90’s basketball players all day everyday!!

      They didn't hate each other. They were just WAY more competitive. Magic is Michael's best friend. They're like brothers. They're so close that the Mike was the first person he called when he got his HIV diagnosis. MJ pulled over & they cried together. MJ wanted beat his friends more than others

  • @C_mao

    MJ wasn't flopping and flailing at contact. He wasn't 'expecting' to get the call. His intent was to score through the physicality, and in 'spite' of it. The contact was often substantial. It wasn't just pitty-pat fouls. But that said, when needed, he did know how to draw contact to get the "and 1". He was a very savvy player, the smartest. Always a step ahead. He had the physical ability, to make the improbable possible, and spectacularly entertaining. That's what set him apart. The eye-test tells you, he was the most incredible player. His dedication and fortitude made his whole team play better. The whole league had to become better in order to compete with his team. He was the most inspiring. Till this day. Unsurpassed.

    You're right on the money with the big hands. MJ even admitted it was difficult and the critics said he would never develope a decent jump shot, but it made him work even harder and we are privileged to see the results. Oh my did we see the results....

    • @furryhoof647
      @furryhoof647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fact that Kawhi has also been able to overcome it makes me think the whole big hands can't shoot thing is overblown. Maybe it's more like 7 footers can't shoot and blame their big hands.... It's a small sample size, but evidence shows that wing players with gorilla hands are excellent shooters.

      @furryhoof647 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bird's offensive game could dominate in any era, imo. But as the amount of freak athletes increase, his defensive game would become more of a liability. With today's no touch defensive rules Bird would be getting dunked on. He'd pretty much be Jokic (if Jokic could shoot like Curry).

    I never understood why they don't show that whole last MJ shot over Byron Russel clip at 23.5 seconds Malone is posted up with a 1 point lead and MJ comes on the weak side help to steal the ball then trots down court calm as you like to set up that shot. It's a great encapsulation of the two way player he was.

    I gotta give it to you my dude. You are the first person that I heard talk about Jordan starting from the bottom and working his way up. I tell people this very thing all the time, especially when it comes to Jordan's career. They don't understand how important that process is. He was a student of the game. People are always highly critical about him getting swept in the playoffs, losing to the Pistons year in and year out, etc. But I tell them, those events made him the player that he ultimately became. I tell them that when they debate me and use those events at ammunition, I tell them that I'm glad that they happened, because once he got to the top, he had already seen everything there was to see, and had overcome every obstacle. So once he got to the top no one could take him down.
    These players today want the microwave success. They don't know anything about slow-cooking.

    • @furryhoof647
      @furryhoof647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mostly agree, but I feel like the 80s Bulls being horrific was a factor. Imo if you put 80s MJ on the Celtics instead of Bird, or instead of Isaiah on the Pistons, he wins championships without even becoming the complete package yet. If you put 90s MJ on the 80s Bulls, he'd still lose to the Celtics and Pistons....U right tho, the monumental challenge of facing those teams made him better.

    11:20......Muggy Bouges was actually better than most thought at the time. Very short though. They say Jordan ruined Mugsy's career in the 95 playoffs after Jordan came back that first time when the Bulls played the Charlotte Hornets. Jordan was guarding Mugsy and told him to...." shoot it you F'n mid**t! " 😆 it's told that after that comment Mugsy lost all confidence in his shot. 😆

    I watched this reaction video and my friend you commentary is top notch. I can go into all the accolades that MJ has and what not, but I think most fans know by now that MJ is in a class of his own. One of the best dunks he had was against Mutumbo. The story is that during an all star game Mutumbo told MJ you wont ever dunk on me, and to that point he had not. Mutumbo made a mistake with that statement because MJ did dunk on him and that is why you see MJ doing the finger wiggle at Mutumbo. I saw it live on television and cracked up when I saw it then and whenever I see it now because it shows you the drive, determination, and passion MJ had for the game and wanting to be the best. Keep up the great work.

    Every Jordan dunk is on somebody because he played in an era that people actually played defence in. Imagine how many points Jordan would have if people just stepped out of his way like they do in LeBron’s era.

    19:40 Jordan has some of the largest hands in NBA history. The vast majority of 7 footers don't have his hand size. Phil Jackson said that Jordan's ability to palm the ball with one hand from a dribble was unique

    The entire 80s was during the jordan rules
    Only time Mike feet bled was when he wore the original 1s from 84 in 98 vs the Knicks in his last game at msg as a bull
    He wore a fresh pair each game

    FACT CHECK: His feet was bloody because he wore his first Air Jordan's in a game at MSG in the late 90's. This was one occurrence, not all the time. Sneakers were too small and tight.

    You really should go back and watch some Jordan games to get a better idea how he dominated the game. For example, the highlight toward the beginning where he ducks under two hawks defenders and comes up reversing on the other side, and the highlight where he breaks one hawk’s ankles with one hand and then dunks right on Tree Rollins - that all happened in the same game. AND he had like three other poster dunks in that game.

    That steal play is actually Larry Bird first, MJ must have watched a lot of film of Larry's playstyle and then he added his godmode athleticism to those and he was the king of Basketball.

    Jordan had a great mid range jumper and make no mistake Jordan is my all time favorite player, but with all due respect, and this might sound crazy but Karl Malone has the most automatic mid range jumper I've personally ever witnessed.

    The players in his era were actually awesome. He just made them look foolish, falling all over themselves, because he was much quicker and everybody knew it. So his fakes were super effective and defenders were constantly lurching in a vain attempt to keep up with MJ. You'll never see so many nba player fall down trying to guard someone, and with no contact. Also - MJ took more physical defensive contact than anyone and he was never injured. Look up how many games he missed from injury. Additionally - more killer/closer instinct than anyone before or after.
