Glad I changed my injectors on my 987 Cayman this year. Btw, not a 2 hour job. At least for me, a complete disassembly of the intake to gain access. Fun fun.
YIKES! I'm very worried about my fuel injectors now, occasional blue smoke at start up. How often do the fuel injectors need replacement at this point ?? Or can fresh injectors be maintained and preserved with proper fuel and cleaning and Driven Injector Defender. How often should one use Driven Injector Defender and how often should one do a cleaning with Sea Foam and/or Marvel Mystery Oil?
Hi Kake just started watching your channel. Love it because you know your stuff and you put the info across in a clear and easily look understandable way. I have been doing some research as a friend look at selling his 2001 996 turbo with manual trans. It only has 10k klms on it. Do you ave any other tips to look out for? I live in qld Australia and the car is Australian delivered. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
Totally agree about oil additives, but i have used royal purple fuel additive the last 7 years, no problems, do it work?? I dont know, but it's like placebo feeling, and i have no negative readings in my UOA the last 7 years, OCI at 5000 miles, my 997 3.8 now passing 110000 miles, unopened engine, and i track the car HARD

04 c4s. with 35k. I have changed my oil/filter every 1500 miles using Motul 0-40 and have replaced the coils, oil air separator and coolant expansion tank just recently. IMS replaced at 15k. The fuel pump and related hoses as well as injectors will be next. I'm sure I will get or now have bore scoring issues to some degree. Hoping to run this engine until the inevitable failures force me to deliver this specimen to your facility for your much improved engine transplant. Keep up the good work.
I own a 2001 Porsche Carrera Cabriolet with 37,000 miles on it. I have no issues with the car running wise. Should I replace the injectors and the coil packs for general or preventive maintenance. I really love your the videos. They are very informative. Thank you in advance for your reply. Keep the videos coming. Happy Motoring!
The choice is to be either reactive or proactive. Of course, we prefer the latter. Therefore, time in service is just as important as miles on a car. Replace them as soon as possible. You'll thank us in the long run.
What do you recommend for the 987.2 2.9? It is a 9A1 and not an M97 like you refer to in the video, but it does have port injection like the M97 instead of DFI the other 9A1s have.
I was sorta surprised that you didn't mention PEA additives, as virtually every Porsche article/video regarding fuel I have seen has talked about the importance of this chemical in regards to keeping the combustion chamber and the injectors as a whole clean, but in reading the comments you do mention the importance of using a top tier gas, specifically Shell, which I understand to definitely hava PEA, ie. Techron, as at least a part of it's additive mix, maybe all of it. SO I have a couple of questions: I live out in the country, and do not have close access (like within 20 miles) of any of the fuels considered to be top tier. If I am using non-top tier fuel, do you think that I should be adding a PEA additive, maybe just a bit, when I fill up, or perhaps some Seafoam? the closest top tier station to me is a Phillips 66 stattion. Do you know if they use a PEA additive? And finally, adjacent to this station is a Murphy (Walmart) station, and they offer an additive package mix at the pump. Do you have any idea what this additive is, and if it's any good or not? Thanks.
Our advice is to make the 20 mile trip (which is good exercise for your Porsche) to closest the Shell and use their V-Power Premium 93 product which we've tested to have good repeatable results. Chevron Premium with Techron is also a good choice. We do not recommend using cheap non-TopTier gasoline with these cars. Some people are surprised that we don't recommend buying cheap gasoline along with pouring an additive in the fuel. Your best course of action is making the long trip and getting fuel with the proper formula and concentration of fuel additive from the start.
Jake, I usually use a can of Seafoam on the tankful of gas before an oil change on my 2000 Boxster. What is your recommendation on much Seafoam or Marvin’s Mystery oil to use on a 2000 Boxster and how often?
We recommend using Top Tier premium fuel like Shell V Power instead on getting in the habit of adding fuel additives on a regular basis. However, if you need to cleanse the fuel system, add 2 cans of Seafoam on a low tank and go drive to near empty. Then fill back up with premium Top Tier fuel.
Jake, i just watched a video where lake said not to use either of those 2 products. Only anything with pea is to be used. He clearly said, only use seafome if you wanna blow it up.can you clear this up?
These products are used as special cleaners as noted in the video. We don't recommend pouring off the shelf additives into your fuel as a regular regimen, but instead, we recommend running Top Tier fuel like Shell V Power in these cars.
Some how everyone's cars seem to make it well over 100k, but if you watch enough videos, you'd expect it to blow up around every corner. Just drive the car and enjoy it. Don't buy in to the fear bait.
Thanks again, Jake. Your knowledge has helped make my Porsche life more trouble free and fun.

Jake...do you have a small brochure or manual for the steps of conquering bore scoring?
