    In this video we’re going to look at how to hang an IV piggyback, otherwise known as a secondary IV infusion. To do this, you have to have a primary infusion running, so make sure you go back and watch how to spike and prime an IV infusion first!
    So once you’ve verified your orders, you’re going to get your IV med bag out of the package if it’s in one.
    Then you’ll open the secondary IV tubing package - this is usually much shorter than primary tubing and doesn’t go inside the pump. Then you’ll clamp that tubing once you have it open.

    Hello, thank you very much for all the helpful videos. Could you make a video about the required nursing skills after the blood transfusion reaction ( for example what to do with the iv line step by step if the transfusion reaction happens)?

      Close immediately the blood line and take V. S, notify the doctor, and administer antihistamines drug

    Always check compatibility! So important bc that med is running through the primary which is going right to the patient.

    I think this video needs to be redone with better camera angles.

    Hi,
    Great video. I have a question . When using an IV filter such as supor 0.2 micron filter as an add on filter not integrated, where is it placed?. I found myself using a giving set where the only option to attach was at end of set where catheter tubing is attached. I then attached catheter tubing to filter. All pretty close to insertion site. While I am here on a gravity fed set , using this filter, the max Gtts/min I could achieve was 76 gtts /min. I needed 80. Any advice appreciated.Thank You

    How do you know which immediately is a primary and which is a secondary? Do you always hand a med with a fluid?

    • @Delia-ou1ju

      The tubing package would tell you if a tubing is primary or secondary....and the secondary tubing usually comes with a blue hanger to lower your main iv fluid

    You don't prime a secondary into the sink

    • @erich4783
      @erich4783 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      just curious but where would you prime it into then? and also what is the reason for not priming it into the sink?
      i thought priming was just to get any air bubbles out of the line so where you actually prime it into doesnt really matter?

      @katkline2034 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@erich4783 You wouldn't want to prime into the sink because that means you are wasting the medication/antibiotic that is in the secondary bag. They should be back-priming the second bag with the primary bag.
