    US nursing students are very lucky to have all these kinds of advanced equipment and training materials/supplies needed to become a good RN.

    Any advice fellows, so my girlfriend just got surgery with a wound that looked similar to this. The Doctor and staff dressed the wound and sent us home telling me that I would have to dress the wound daily without offering any materials, demonstration, or advice. Me not knowing or even dealing with anything of this caliber is shook. Not only do I feel inadequately trained to change this dressing I also risk not using the proper technique in order to make sure it heals properly without getting infected. Can this be an example of medical negligence? When we made a follow up call, all they said was that this is "simple" but to me who know nothing of this, it's not "simple".

      There are so many questions that need to be asked in order to answer this question.
      First have you asked for a demonstration? Have you asked for a visiting nurse to assist until you feel comfortable performing this task? What type of insurance coverage does your friend have?
      I am going to say this straight out. Implying medical negligence from the get go will only get you push back from both nurses and doctors. Asking for help should not take on a threatening tone at anytime. Just state your concerns genuinely and you will find both doctors and nurses willing to go above and beyond your expectations.

      As a nursing student, I am not sure if it is considered negligence, but we are constantly taught to educate the patient and family members on any procedures that are being done and to use the "teach-back" method to ensure that the patient and family understand what we explained. Contrary to the prior response, I believe it shouldn't be necessary to ask for that kind of help it should have already been done, but you should call and explain what happened as well as your concerns and ask for some assistance. Hopefully your girlfriend heals well!

      This is, unfortunately, not unusual. I've even had visiting nurses put off their work on me. Of course, I ended up entering the field myself, so it is all experience well earned now. But, it is wrong to do this to an inexperienced person!

    Saline bottle is sterile since it was inside the kit which is your sterile field. Those forceps though are definitely not sterile because it was on the table.

      When you have a deep wound- packing or putting the wet cloth inside the wound can help it heal. The packing material absorbs any drainage from the wound which helps the tissues heal from the inside out. If u don’t packit, the wound might close at the top without healing at the deeper areas of the wound (& could trap fluid, bacteria & lead to infection, etc)

      Doctors will use secondary or tertiary closure for wounds to make sure they heal without forming abscesses. Sometimes doctors will suture the wound close once the wound has progressed and a suture is necessary.

    • @danceprance4848
      @danceprance4848 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      i was taught everything in a premade sterile package is sterile so you can touch the bottle, but if the kit doesnt come with one and you have to grab it from supplies when you go in that would not be sterile.
