- Goose hunting is very popular way a hunter takes care of a geese problems in South Africa. This is the second part of my goose hunting 2023 adventure. This video is contains the best high power rifle shooting slow motion hunting shots of geese that you ever have seen. I find myself on a farm that has a overpopulated goose pest problem. I am armed with a Howa high power rifle shooting 53gn vmax Hornady goose hunting cartridges. Goose hunting with a high power rifle is not easy and it takes a big amount of skill and ballistic knowledge to do goose hunting like this. For this goose problem i use a the cover of a small man made hide from where i do goose hunting. The two geese species i am targeting on this goose hunting pest job is egyptian geese and sperwing geese and you need to do high power rifle shooting to take them down humane. The egyptian geese are indigenous to South Africa and their numbers has exploded over the last few years. It is necessary to control this numbers by doing goose hunting with a rifle or otherwise the goose problem will go out of hand.
In South Africa most of the pest control goose hunting is done by high power rifle shooting. The rifle used in this pest control goos hunting job is the Howa 223. This caliber and gun setup is perfect for goose hunting. The goose hunting ammo i use is a self loaded cartridge with a 53 Grain Hornady vmax bullet that is perfect for high power rifle shooting. To do goose hunting with a rifle is more suited for me due to that there is no space to use a shotgun safely in this area. The geese is also very clever in this regard and wont allow me to come close. For this reason goose hunting high power rifle shooting is more suited.
This pest control goose hunting job was to get rid of the pest problem and not to harvest the geese for meat. I recorded slow motion goose hunting shots of this pest job to educate hunters on good ethical hunting. Recording slow motion hunting shots is also a way for me to refer back to how i approach my shot placement and trigger pull. I love to record my goose hunting shot and this material to help other hunters become better in this sport. All the geese that was hunted was donated to the farm back for own use.
For this goose hunting pest control job i asked a good friend of mine Barend Nell to join me. It is always great to do geese hunting with a rifle with him. He is a experienced hunter and has a lot of knowledge doing high power rifle shooting.
This video also is the first field test of the Element Helix HDLR 2-16 SFP. I really found using it for geese hunting with a rifle very good. It has really good optics and a large amount of features that suites high power rifle shooting very well. All the geese hunting that was done on this day was also recorded through my go pro side shot system to showcase slow motion hunting shots on film. The geese hunting footage was really good filmed through the new Element Helix HDLR. This geese hunting with rifle is a two part video and the second one of this geese hunting 2023 will follow soon.

Element scopes are your sponsors, but u will soon need a better clarity scope for awesome scopecam footage. Nightforce 7-35 Atacr will do the job :)) And since you always use turrets for elevation setting, I would recommend the 2nd focal plane reticle. Amazing.

great work I was planning on getting a stainless Tikka but youve got me saving a tonne of money if I get the Howa! Also if the Farm workers are eating them then I suggest you use Target Ammo, as the Varmint bullets expand and shatter and spread inside the goose. but if you use round nose copper jackets target ammo - they should pass straight through and leave no metal inside the bird..let me know what you think?
