Excellent presentation of both video and content detail for replacing a chainsaw sprocket. It left nothing to guess work like so many other videos I have watched where the presenter is blaze's over details and is inarticulate. Thanks, VicG
Nice video Don - its always a joy to work on Stihls. You are probably busy with mowers and saws this time of the year - but was wondering if you would consider making videos on small engines where the issues were diffficult to diagnose or where the symptoms are "not what you expected" or where the fix isn't a DIY job - and the fix/solution. Have a great weekend
I have a Stihl chainsaw which is very hard for me to crank. It have been in the repair shop more times than I can count and the owner could crank it, but once I get it home and try to start it the two recommended ways the rope don't come out far enough to turn thane engine over. I purchased a Poulan Pro after that and have the same problem with it. The last saw I purchased is a Poulan Pro battery saw and it cranks so easily and works just fine for the work I have around home.
Great video Don, as well as maintenance reminder tips. I did not know some of those routine maintenance cleaning tips, and will look to perform them in the next few weeks. I love it when I learn new stuff on equipment that I have. Many thanks!
sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Zane Lachlan I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Thanks for the nice video! Even though I'm the type that reads manuals (and I bought my saw new with a manual), I didn't realize those things were part of maintenance. Good thing I don't use mine very heavily or I'd be behind!
Hey Don, thanks for the video, helpful as usual. shouldn't you inspect the inside of the drum as well on the occasion? I was told once that too much wear will cause premature wear of the clutch springs and shoes in turn, and that assembly is far more expensive comparing to the clutch drum alone.
Howdy Donyboy, have enjoyed your channel for some time Question: replacing chain sprocket on 038, original clutch drum-sprocket is two piece, so ordered a one piece OEM spur sprocket. My question is what are the little notches on the middle of new sprocket? Are they some kind of wear indicators? Does it matter if they don't line up perfectly with the chain bar? Any thoughts appreciated and THANKs in advance. Dave
love the old school aspect... using carb cleaner with bare hands (not using latex gloves)... don't know if this is good or bad practice, I just know that I don't usually bother with gloves for something like that.
Good tutorial as always :-D The drive looked very clean, must have been your own chainsaw. I've cleaned ones for people that don't maintain there tools, filthy mess :-(
Hello Don! First Of All Great Work And Information On Your Videos. Here’s My Question I Have A Husqvarna T435 XTorq And Just Recently It Started Smoking When Cutting, Not Sure If It’s Overheating Or Clogged Somewhere Or The Chain Might Be To Dull? Any Ideas? Thanks In Advance.
Dony I know you are very busy, however, I calling on you because I have followed you for a very long time and I have a new little shop and work on small engines to help other when they can afforded to pay to get repairs on their equipment, I do it for no charge, however, they must buy the parts. I am working on MC180 very dirty, no start. I first check the coil, and was no spark. I installed a new coil, (Italian), the only thing we can find around us. The carburetor was very dirty. I installed a new kit, after cleaning. All the rest looks normal, fuel filter new, gas line it is new. But I can’t get it to start. Can you give any hints, please thank you and have a nice day from dip in the south, Montevideo. info@ecodynamics.com Serge
I have just changed the sprocket on my MS250. You are an amazing teacher/instructor. You are a gifted communicator.
I like how Dony took the time to open his word processor and print out the part number. Much classier.
yes thank you lol

Very helpful, I would probably not have figured out during reassembly the alignment of the sprocket with the oiler bar.

Thank you very much. Keep the good job sir...

Aah, the sounds of chainsaws. The signs of Spring. Lawn mowers and leaf blowers can't be far behind.
Do you have a video on drum sprocket vs. Rim sprocket. Does it come down to preference?
Good tutorial as always :-D

Dony
What else can I use for a good cleaner and degreaser for my chainsaws
Thank you for your help Doug
Mercury power tune, carb cleaner, brake cleaner, Kleen-flo parts cleaner, Zep orange degrease from home depot
Finally chainsaw repair video! My favourite one's.
Btw, in previous videos You call C clip but now it's E clip..?
good notice lol, yes either c-clip or e-clip
Also they have a totally different name (I can't repeat it here) when they fly across the room and disappear.
Thanks for the video.
Is this the same process for a dolmar ps 510 saw?
Great videos, Thanks.
Good video ,Do you think the chinez parts are worth it.OEM parts are more expensive to buy and good quality.
some Chinese parts are good, I mostly use Oregon sprockets
Do the saws with that tool less mechanism have issues staying tight?
they're pretty good but the 170 with two nuts is better
Donny
Is brake clean good to use when cleaning a chainsaw with your compressed air also
yes it is
Great Video!
Hey +donyboy73 how come you release your videos so late at night? Great video btw. I'm a long time subscriber.
for Friday morning
Where you buy the parts for the sthil concrete saw I need the carburator for 420 saw
discountonlineparts.com/concrete/?c=Carburetors&sc=TS420&b=Stihl&id=12308
What kind of gloves are you wearing?
Is it a pain to flip the bar with that style of chain adjuster?
not really, i'll be making a video
There's only one flathead screw to remove it, then flip it, and reattach.
