This movie somehow feels like the darkest movie of the trilogy, The way Toothless was forced to kill Hiccup only to kill Stoick is absolutely tragic, especially with how Hiccup basically throws him away, and the reunion scene got me, these two are the best and most iconic animated duo from Dreamworks since Shrek and Donkey
I totally agree dude, I absolutely love this Trilogy, I was super sad when I realized they were ending it… I still watch the animated series from time to time 😂
At the end when they are dragon racing and hiccup gets the black sheep, he puts it into Astrids basket. I don’t think anybody ever notices it but i think it’s the sweetest thing every time i watch it!!
“ May the valkyries welcome you and lead you through Odin's great battlefield. May they sing your name with love and fury, so that we might hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla and know that you've taken your rightful place at the table of kings. For a great man has fallen: A warrior. A chieftain. A father. A friend.” And the music is so powerful it’s impossible to think a human could create it.
The Night Fury "The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself, your only hope is to hide and pray it does not find you" I love that toothless is both portrayed as a killer demon and a friendly goofball
The "Race to the edge" series shows the story between the first and second one. It's basically about him building that map and adventuring. It's pretty good
Broski i love race to the edge but theres no point telling him about it i wouldnt want him to waste his time with something that takes a lot of commitment
Always loved how this franchise has a clear progression of time, the characters age between movies and change as their lives do. Really makes you feel like you are growing with them.
When Stoick tells his wife that "she is as beautiful as the day he lost her' breaks 💔 my heart everytime. Thanks for a lovely reaction. Missed this premiere was here for yesterday's though lol. No worries take care. Until the next one 💜
I shit you not, my heart could not handle this movie as a kid, i remember the scene when toothless was being controlled and nearly killed Hiccup and i almost started crying in the theaters and tears started rolling down my cheeks, for me this had to of been the most darkest and heartbreaking sequel from the trilogy.😭💔🐉
To put into context why the Bewilderbeast that belonged to Drago obeyed him, as did the other dragons… Take this with a grain of salt as this is stuff I heard, but basically it’s akin to how elephants are abused. The story goes that supposedly Drago had his Bewilderbeast since it was a baby. Like a baby elephant, the poor thing dealt with abuse. That awful shouting along with the staff waving around was a form of conditioning, both signifying a trigger to submit or be punished. The heartbreaking thing is even though both get big enough to kill their awful owners, sometimes they don’t because of the trauma of that “training” breaking them. They revert to that state of a helpless baby being abused, not a fully grown adult with agency. The other dragons work the similarly, Drago scares them into obedience. It’s pretty depressing, messed up stuff…
That's why you gotta be a hippo sometimes, you can abuse an elephant and it won't harm you, but you can raise a hippo with love and care and devotion and it'll take a bite out of your bodily form if it wants a quick snack.
It’s heartbreaking to think about what that poor Bewilderbeast had to go through, I’m glad it’s safe as shown in the 3rd movie. When I found out about the Bewilderbeast being abused I had never wanted to kill a fictional character more in my entire life.
Drago raised his Bewilderbeast through fear and abuse, that's why it still listens to him even full grown. That's how they train elephants in the circus. They even reference this with Drago's spear looking like an elephant hook.
The scene with the mom will always get me. I have never been so happy for character to actually just exist and enjoy a moment with his family- a full reunited family. It was so powerful and I cried seeing what happens after. Not only did Stoic died, Hiccup barely got to embrace the family he always wanted. The second one is my favorite out of the three. I truly can’t watch the third one as much because it breaks my heart knowing this movie ended everything~ it’s a good movie with beautiful scenes but I don’t like being reminded that the franchise is put to a nice close. Honestly the HTTYD is such a good example of a perfect franchise (excluding Nine Realms because no one believes it’s canon): the shows were amazing and filled in the time gaps between the movies, we saw canon character development and understood the minute character changes and how the characters ended up being who they are both for the humans and dragons, the movies are spectacular, the scores pull on your heart strings, the shorts and holiday specials were still meaningful and canon even after the third movie, the merch was amazing, there’s just so many good things to list off. Honestly HTTYD is the LoTR in western animation; HTTYD is the number one trilie for western animation.
I don't know exactly why, but every time you do that into where you're already watching the movie and then turn to us makes me feel like I'm hanging out with an old friend.
If watch the first movie again and actively look for his chin scar he does have it. There are scenes where it stands out more. Especially towards the end after Astrid kisses him.
My favorite description of Toothless challenging the alpha for Hiccup was "... and then Toothless pulled off a better Godzilla impression than anything only 15 ft long should be able to manage..."
the third movie is so good.. in fact, i feel its right on par with the second movie.. if any of the og's in the comment section seen "turbo" or the movie "epic" both those have S tier graphics for its time!!
This movie broke me when I first saw it in theatres. Openly crying. The funeral scene was quiet enough that I could hear other people around me sniffling. I pity the parents who took their kids to see this opening day. Beautiful lessons in the film, but when Dreamworks hit you with emotions, they don’t pull their punches.
One of dreamworks best movies is Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, great movie with a great soundtrack, Hans Zimmer and Bryan Adams did the music, highly recommend
All the how to train your dragon movies were composed by John Powell you may have it confused with kung fu panda which was composed by both Hans Zimmer and John Powell.
Wow its been a year since you released the first one, and I just so happened to comment on your last video about a follow up to this series. You're awesome man!!
You are my favourite reactor, i love your humour, the things you notice and i love your heartfelt reactions to dark/difficult scenes. These movies are hugely special to me as a part of my childhood and the third one released a few months before my partner passed so that movie (dealing with love and loss and moving on) was hugely important to me and always will be. Its the movie that helped save my life, and im going to keep living it for her. And i hope that one day when i see her again she'll be able to tell me how proud she is ❤
cant wait til you watch the 3rd one. love the reactions. makes me feel like im watching it for the 1st time all over again. seeing you have the same emotions that everyone else did at the same moments or if you react different and why is also wholesome to see.
So Mello, with you talking about wanting to see more story lines of the protagonist being eager to take on the throne, not a movie but a show that kinda fits that idea is the sequel series to ATLA - Legend of Korra. It's set around 60~70 years after the events of Avatar: The Last Airbender and follows the new Avatar Korra. Unlike Aang, she ties most of her identity into being the Avatar and is wholeheartedly invested into being the best. I would say more but don't want to get spoiler-y. After you finish ATLA, I would definitely check it out. Hopefully you would enjoy and appreciate it more then some of the fanbase did.
I saw this movie in the cinema back then and the death of Hiccup's father was actually one of the first ever moments in movies that got me emotional. Hiccup sending Toothless away and then having to fire the fleet with his father had me in my FEELS
Since you've already seen the 3rd one, I want you to watch very closely where all the dragons go when they show it. In there, you can see exactly 1 "Alpha", but that "Alpha" has a broken tusk. The same tusk Toothless broke in their fight in this movie.
I'm already excited for you to watch the third one because this reaction was as always pretty fun and great!! 😄 Also, since the new movie is already coming out next month, I was wondering if you're going to check out the Planet of the Apes movies too? Because the movies are incredible and I think you're really going to like them a lot!
Arguably, Moana is a story about someone destined to lead her people and is excited about it, but she thinks differently than her father which leads to her adventure alone. She disobeyed her father to save her people, her people in the beginning said she was doing great in her preparation of problem solving!
Hey Mell, I'm a huge fan of your videos since I love to watch your reactions so I was if you could do a reaction to the Planet of the Apes Reboot trilogy as well as Peter Jackson's King Kong since I heard that you love apes gorillas in particular especially since next month is when "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" comes out and I just just thought you'd really like the performance of Andy Serkis in both film franchises along with the CGI, Cinematography and overall just the experience these movies have left on everyone. You're an amazing person with an incredible personality and I hope to see more from you soon. Keep up the good work, you're awesome!
They were originally going to bring Drago back for a redemption arc but they ended up deciding to go a different direction and the canon is that Drago was crushed/drowned when his dragon dove into the see with Dragon on the front of his head.
I honestly think Drago did died. Since the bewildered beast retreated into the water, and since Drago doesn’t have his other arm, he probably drowned. That’s just my guess.
Idk what it is about this series that reduces me to tears every time. 2 is definitely the strongest of the 3 imo, but they are all just bangers one after the other without fail.
The Bewilderbeast is actually taller than the Red Death, but not by much (Bewilderbeast being 160 something feet tall while the Red Death is a little less than 100). The Red Death probably looked bigger because it was a stockier dragon and the Bewilderbeast is a dragon that's made for the water so it's more lean.
I read somewhere that Drago screaming like that was because the actor did it to warm up, and they liked it so much that they incorporated it into the movie. (Not sure if it's true, but it'd be very cool if it was.)
I think the only reason toothless has retractable teeth is because when toothless fires a plasma blast, the teeth and retract in so the teeth won’t get in the way of the plasma blast toothless fires, so toothless won’t knock his own teeth out
You just have to watch a TV series about dragons, not only because of the awesome connection with the second part and the explanation of some things (like Stoick's dragon and Hiccup's sword) but also because of the plot in principle. They dive deeper into what happened on that 5 year gap between the first film and this. They expand on Hiccup and Astrid's relationship, Hiccup and his dad, as well as flesh out the rest of the gang, and how Berk adapted to living with dragons. And if you like watching Astrid and Hiccup's relationship develop (since when have they been engaged, for example) then you just won’t be able to stop watching this series))))
He’s not making it through the third one 😂 I love seeing mellow be so moved by movies. Hopefully he watches the third one and the short that comes after
"Men who kill without reason cannot be reasoned with." Such a fire line, and just pure facts.
The way Hiccup snaps at Toothless after he was mind controlled into killing Stoick breaks my heart every time. There's so much emotion on both sides.

10:49 retractable teeth can make you look nonthreatening to either befriend someone or lull an enemy into thinking you’re no danger.
