- this song is disappointingly short, so it loops more than usual to hit that 2:30 mark
man, this track is the one that takes me back to when I played this for the first time back in 2012, even moreso than the overworld theme. it's specifically because I spent a lot of time in the World 8 castle, with its multiple-pathway maze.
but where did this theme go for NSMB Wii??? I love the castle theme in that game too, but I remember being sad when this was nowhere to be found in the sequel
feel free to leave any suggestions below, but I can't guarantee they'll ever become reality

Sm64 and nsmb have very similar soundfonts, so this works exceptionally well
nsmb share a lot of instruments with sm64 (especifically the ds remake) so its not just similarity
i may be wrong but i think NSMB uses the same soundfont as SM64DS just with some new instruments?

New Super Mario Bros. was originally a series based on the remake of Super Mario 64, Super Mario 64 DS. It makes a lot of sense if you played both games.
mario kart ds also featured plenty of elements used in both games, hence why all of the mission mode bosses are pulled from 64DS

The Nintendo DS is still my favorite nintendo system.
Actually it was also a spiritual successor to the Mario Advance series (it was meant as a replacement for the non-existent fifth installment), which in turn was a successor to Mario Deluxe, which in turn turn was a successor to the GameBoy Donkey Kong game.
Long story short, the NSMB sub series’ origins stem back to both SM64DS and the 1994 Donkey Kong game

I'm honestly pretty sad this isn't the one that made it to Wii and beyond too, but the really short loop is probably why.
Maybe sometime an unofficial extended version should be made by somebody.
The one from the wii version is so generic.

The reason why it sounds almost the same it's because Nintendo used the engine of SM64 DS to create New Super Mario Bros.
This is because it's cheaper and quicker using a made engine than making a new one for modeling the characters, using new soundfonts, etc.
So Nintendo to make it easier they decided to use the same engine as 64 DS.
That's why the game uses the same models as 64 DS, some minigames are recycled and some soundtracks too (like the Star theme)
Sega did also something similar with Sonic 2 and Sonic 3&K
In the earlier versions of Sonic 2, there was Sonic 1 soundtracks and in the debug mode, there was Sonic 1 levels, but scrapped
And in the Sonic 3&K earlier version, there was some Sonic 2 stuff (scrapped too)

This isn't the first SM64 soundfont remix of this track, but it's the best one cuz it specifically chose the SM64 sounds that sound the most accurate
This fits super perfectly well together, since NSMB’s Soundfont borrows many of the instruments from SM64!😄🤩😎👌

Man this is one of my favorite songs from this game. This feels like a remastered version of the song. Coming here, just turning 18 today, I still remember when I got NSMB and my DS lite for my birthday when I was 5. This game will always be in my top 5. Sorry to drop such a comment like this.
nah dude I fuuuuully understand, this was the only game I had for the longest time so I know it inside and out. I played so much multiplayer with my neighbor in the house next to me... good times
(also since I'm 21 and got my DSi at 8 I think we got em in the same year O_O)

I got the original DS when I was 5, and had Mario 64 (it came with it). Didn't end up getting New Mario until I was 9 but both games were awesome (still are; I recently replayed both)

that's because nsmb Soundfont used some samples from sm64 which is crazy
The Nintendo DS is a portable console inspired by the N64, both use the same sound chip (FX)
