    Extremely valuable as usual! I've been watching your channel for a while now, and I like how you provide value in your content as much as in your production. Keep up the great work! I don't understand the interest in keeping the mft mount for studio cameras, having done all kind of live production it's clear to us that B4 is the way to go unless you plan on bringing a whole range of accessories to help you better control zoom/focus on all mft lenses..it won't be comparable.

    Thank you very much for this Video. May I ask, if you had the chance to test the autofocus a little further? I wonder how good - or if at all - the camera could track an object or person in front of it. Would it be possible to have it in a scenario like a one-man show where it would be not operated? Could it be set to somethong like "focus on neares object"? I would be very interested in these answers. Thank's again

    Hey, Amazing review! As for the B4 lens, I have seen that the vignetting basically disappears when you use the lens only in x2 mode for MFT cameras. Was this the case with the Studio 4K camera?

    Great review! I have used a B4 YJ20x8.5 lens with 2 x extender and a fotodiox adaptor on almost 80 streams and recordings with amazing results. Of course i used with the lens, support and manual focus wire. I did this with the Pocket 4k. Tomorrow i get the studio pro. For me is the bigger screen and sdi output a must...got already reading glasses 3.0 plus. We work with vmix and not atm. We gonna find out if we get tally work on it. For talkbak we use wireless hollyland system. The work is do varius from talkshows to concerts and the parfocal on the B4 lens is very welcome.
    About the lens.., you need to have luck if you buy one. I have a SD version but i found out that they also sold back in the days as HD lens. Because only in the factory was a slide differences in sharpness and even not visible for the eye. But it saves a ton of money. For the sweetspot set the B4 lens on 4.0 stop. Of course a photolens is sharper but with the streams we never use 4k...its not possible with the hdmi output and the stream downgrade it anyway.
    But i have so mush advantage because i can zoom en make dynamic slides. Its the main feature why i did so many streams instead of static shots.
    But you have a good channel and lots of good info...greetings from The Netherlands

  • @ONtvChannels

    As always from you old chap (AKA Zebrazone) - a very good well balanced piece - thank you... John M
    Sadly BMD have (as of yet) failed to provide either a B4 or EF mount option on this product, which is a great pity IMHO - the 4 screws holding the MFT mount might hopefully mean that this is a possible future option? Otherwise it will mean a third party adapter will be the way forward?

    • @MiddleThings
      @MiddleThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you ! Oh actually we did take off those 4 screws, but the part didn't come off, so it's not designed to be changed. But the space on the body around the MFT sensor could mean another version could be coming ! EF isn't really an issue since you can use a speedbooster and focus / iris control should still work. But B4.... yes, let's hope for an adaptor !

    • @renatomorichetti4374

      Maybe MiddleThings is going to develop such an external zoom motor? Maybe together with DJI as with the gimbal you already have this feature!? Those 4 Electronic zoom lenses are NOT an option for me - then i would better invest in a DJI Gibmal and Middle Things APC-R instead of the BM Zoom and Focus Demand. How do you see that? Possible solution?

    Quick question for you. I have a sony a7siii and I need a second camera for an additional angle. Its for a home studio for a youtube channel. I also just bought an Atem mini extreme iso. I have the choice of getting another sony camera of lesser value or a BMPCC like the 4k or 6k. Would would you suggest? Do you think the black magic could go well with the sony? Thank you!

  • @IOPvideo
    @IOPvideo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    The Zoom and Focus demands are great in theory, but the big issue with the zoom demand is compatibility. So far the only lenses I have found that aren't discontinued are: The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 and the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario PZ 45-175mm f/4-5.6. Its weird that they would put out a product with such a narrow range of compatible lenses. You'd really need a servo zoom motor to take advantage of the MFT range.

    • @DavidMorseMusic
      @DavidMorseMusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. The three power zoom lenses for MFT are hot garbage. BMD should go with E mount. Some great power zoom lenses from Sony.

    If I wanted to record ISO's of each camera feed without forking out for a tonne of storage space, would I be able to take feeds from my Constellation 8k, and output a feed of each camera into the ATEM ISO SDI and switch a live show at the same time? Would this confuse the ATEM Software control (running two 'switchers' at the same time), could this be manipulated through Adam Tows MixEffect Application?

I'm hoping it a firmware update fixable issue. but i'm open to advice.

    Blackmagic makes zoom and focus demands for use on the studio camera.
    But there are entirely TWO Olympus lenses that feature electronic zoom.
    And the only zoom at one speed on those Olympus lenses.
    Again- without a B4 mount and the 7-speed ramping zoom lens attached to the front, BMD is not going to sell very many zoom controls for the Studio camera, and then they'll discontinue the controls- essentially fueling the failure of their own accessories.

    Just wondering if you used a B4 Lens with a 2X converter built-in would that fix the vignetting? Just bought 4 of these cameras and looking for other lens options.

    • @MiddleThings
      @MiddleThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes the 2x converter fixes the vignetting, but the problem is that the converter reduces the light and the sharpness … not great

      @@MiddleThings If you put it on f4 its no problem at all...i film with a college and he has a fx9 with the 24 - 105 4k lens...we have the same output if you use it only on 1080p...but even then i did recordings on 4k with the B4 and in post a little tiny sharpness on it...bam. But for 9 out of 10 ...it works for the streaming. But you have to have luck with the B4 lens...read my post for explain.

    Unfortunately you did not talk about one of the biggest weakness of the studio cameras (and Blackmagic in general): autofocus. We have the old studio cameras and basically you have to manually focus everything. Otherwise it is a great review. Thanks for the sample footage and the lens recommendation.

    • @MiddleThings
      @MiddleThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure ! It's definitely not perfect, but there is a step forward between the autofocus of the old studio cameras and the new ones. You can try the BMPCC 4K autofocus, it will give you a good idea since it's the same as the Studio Pro 4K. It's still not Sony style continuous autofocus though.

    An extra $895 for the studio converter, extremely disappointing. NDI +POE solutions are becoming much more affordable. BMD missing the mark here... $1795 for MFT camera + $895 converter + $999 lens. A 4 camera studio going to start at $12,000, and that's without a switcher --- BirdDog and PTZ Optics are laughing IMO.

    • @MiddleThings
      @MiddleThings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      You are comparing the uncomparable. A Birdog 4cam kit, will cost more than $10,000 as well. For PTZ cameras that are really bad as soon as you add a little bit of gain.The all in one solutions you are mentionning are surely a bit easier to set up, but the quality is absolutely uncomparable, not even talking of NDI compression of an image that has a poor SNR ratio and high visible or invisible noise. And Blackmagic often introduces substantial price drops from time to time. So it all depends on the usecase, the audience of the live show / podcast etc..

      The studio converter adds a crap ton of features. Gives you more outputs, you can run the program feed back to the camera and actually send it out of the hdmi on the camera to a teleprompter or TV just below the camera. Tally, talkback andTimecode is the huge one for me. I added an ATEM SDI extreme ISO just to use one of the outputs to record iso feeds into that. It’s amazine

    These cameras are almost exclusively used with b4 lenses, in fact some of your broll had box b4 mount lenses on the camera. You simply engage the doubler.

      Mostly the Olympus 12-100. Almost all micro four thirds lenses that have a focus motor built in can be controlled by the camera (lens + iris). If you want zoom too, there are only 4 and they are not great
