A good friend passed away several years ago and her husband showed up at my house with about 20 moving boxes of yarn. My husband wasn't too happy, but I was in tears. I have since used or gifted most of the yarn. There was an unfinished baby blanket in one box and I finished it and gave it to her niece, for whom she was making it for when she passed. More tears. Every project that I finished with her yarn just warmed my heart.
Girl, fill 30 houses to the ceiling, you only get one life, live your true life, don't let anyone take your true light away from you. You are a pure light for a lot of us. You make videos that makes our whole day. Btw, my favorite reason I watch your videos is the child like joy that you see across your face when you see a yarn in your top three. It's so innocent and pure. This world needs more of that.
Sherry that is so sweet of you to say this. I love reading heartfelt messages or comments. I also love yarn so much! I just wish I had the funds to Hoard it 😂. I am lucky to get to buy it on sale right now. Praying I get more soon ❤
I absolutely loved when you had yarn from floor to ceiling and your Freddie Mercury pics mixed in, it looked amazing! People can suck sometimes! Sorry they did that to you. I hoard yarn, I tell people to kiss my bleep. My house my rules. Love your channel and all you do Crystal! Thanks!
I have alot of fabrics in all different sizes and alot of yarn. Hopefully one day sooner than later I will learn how to knit or crochet items with this yarn, the same with my fabrics. I am 73 years old, now I will have to teach myself to start back doing these things that made me happy. Hopefully I can retrain my brain to start slowly and complete all the projects I start few years back and get to working on them. Many God give me the strenght and my want to back to me soon. God bless you and keep doing what you love to do. That you for sharing and giving me the strenght to get back to making clothes, quilts, scarves and crocheting some of your beautiful patters Thank you again for sharing your talent and encouraging your viewers the desire to try to make the items that want to make. Go buy the yarn you love and can afford if it makes you happy. Love to you and your beautiful family.🙏👍❤🧶
When I saw all the yarn behind you, I never thought “Why does she have all that yarn” I thought “Wow how beautiful, she is a true yarn and crochet advocate” Your personality is why I stay with your channel. I would not care if you do giveaways or not. I’m here for your yarn opinion and your awesome tutorials and your amazing personality. I have a mental disability too and I have a hard time getting rid of things too so I understand. I really hope you continue to stay true to yourself and the way you are, and please don’t listen to all those negative and Jealous people, because in the end that is what they are, they ARE jealous and love to bring down Happy content people like us. ❤️
Hi Crystal, Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings you didn't have to do that we all appreciate it very much. I too have OCD and ADHD. I have been going to counseling and it's been hoping to maintain less of a dependability on my things but I collect.. But I certainly understand where people are coming from.. I picked up crochet actually from you about 5 years ago. I have been in yarn hoarder ever since I'm proud of it.. I never buy anything unless it's extremely unclear and I have some very nice yarn to show for it . And I figure if another pandemic hits I'm set for good! Thanks again have a great day!
As a fellow collector, it breaks my heart and infuriates me that people feel the need to be so judgemental and jealous to attack and name call you for your beautiful yarn collection. If it makes you happy and safe, that's all that matters. Not to mention how beautiful it was in your space. I'm so very sorry you have to go through that. There are a lot of choice words I want to use, but I respect you and your channel too much... I'll just say, let the haters hate. They're miserable with their own lives and want to make others feel bad to make themselves feel good. Sending you much love and beautiful yarny vibes! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
Your response is exactly how I feel about people who are judgmental and feel they have to express those unwanted opinions. I liked seen Crystal’s room of yarn and watching her decorating her home and going shopping with Mr. Bod. It is unfortunate (to say it mildly) that these hate-minded people ruined it for the rest of us.
As someone who has a disability including a variety of psychological issues, OCD included, yarn brings me comfort and crocheting and knitting relieves my anxiety. That’s a real shame for people to make other people feel badly about something that brings them joy. I’m so sorry that you experienced that. There is never a good reason to judge someone else or put someone down. Love your channel and how genuine you are . Bless you
My trouble is I don’t buy enough for a project I’ll find some I want to try buy one or two then not have enough to make what I want to it’s your thang do what you want to do lol wish people didn’t have to be so mean love you
@@debralittle1341 it is my therapy and my coping technique. Because i also have bipolar disorder and impulse disorder one causes me to buy/ collect yarn and the other has me using it to deal with anxiety and manic episodes. Listening to Crystal is like listening to Bob Ross when i was a kid. Never learned to paint but it was relaxing and soothing. With Crystal it affects me the same way, but I'm learning something as well. It really hurts me to my soul, that people have treated her so bad. She is such a beautiful soul.
I think that some of the people that give her a hard time about her yarn are actually a bit jealous or are minimalists. I can understand if someone does not want to buy yarn unless they have a project planned. Some people complete one item before moving to the next. And that's ok too! I think some buy when items are on sale because they cannot afford to get it otherwise, so it looks like hoarding. It's amazing to hear of such hurtful comments because the crochet community is usually a very caring and understanding group.
I started to crochet because of my disabilities too. It relieves my anxiety and keeps my mind and hands occupied when I can’t focus. It really is a shame how people make us feel badly about something that helps our disabilities, It just shows how inconsiderate people are. Thanks for sharing. Glad to know there are a lot of us out there dealing with the same thing. ❤️
I love love love your pov. I concur ma’am. Mine is because my ex always said we didn’t have money for yarn, but boy howdy did we ever have money for an Apple Watch, an extra computer, ear buds x 2, guns x 6…etc. So now! I have all the yarn I need and want.
Crystal, I know that this video has helped and will help many, many people. When someone speaks bravely of their own challenges and hurt it gives understanding, strength and encouragement to all of us . You have certainly spoken to my heart today. Beautiful Crystal, you are incredible.
Thank you for saying that. She really really has been so open and honest and has helped me in so many ways. If only we had more people like her, the world would be a more beautiful place. We love you so much Crystal!
Never saw you as a yarn hoarder. I see you as an absolutely generous person. Your giveaways are so amazing. I go crazy in a Michael's or Joanns. So what if you love yarn. Love is what we need most in the world right now. There are too many unhappy people who like to judge others. Your yarn room was beautiful Crystal. You are a very generous person. Don't let anyone steal your sunshine. The world needs more people like you.
I believe my grandma had a collective personality as well, she had a whole room full of yarn and craft stuff. It runs in our family. My mother and I have this as well. You aren't alone. HUGS.
It breaks my heart that people are so cruel to you. You’re such a giving caring person. I am in tears over their abuse of your collection. I loved it… I understand where you’re coming from and THANK YOU FOR SHARING. Love your heart Crystal! 💜🧶🧶
Crystal, love your honesty. I’m so sorry you felt pressured to change your environment. I hope you have an off-camera room full of yarn to get the comfort you both want and need! You’re absolutely correct, nobody has the right to tell another how to be happy. Let people be who they are! Hugs 😊🧶😊🧶😊🧶😊🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶💖
Dear Crystal, thank you for sharing your story, although I'm sorry that you felt you had to. The ones who love you already understood. The ones who make shitty comments will NEVER understand, no matter how compelling and authentic your story is. Take care of yourself first. Thank you so much for sharing your time and talent with the world. ❤️❤️❤️
Gosh Crystal, I am so sad that this has happened to you. My daughter and I have Autism Spectrum Disorder and part of that is collecting as it makes us feel safe and fills our hearts with joy. Seeing your yarn unboxings has helped me so much as the look of joy that you have when you pull out a yarn that really resonates with you helps me to be ok with feeling that way too about yarn and my other collections.I feel it’s ok to be me. Thank you Crystal for being such a wonderful light in this world. I hope that the lovely comments that you have received will help you to be able to relax about collecting yarn and anything else that you want to collect. We all love you and support you. I believe that those who have been spiteful to you can’t be happy people. They don’t understand the love in your heart and want to destroy it but actually they destroy themselves. Be you Crystal because you are a wonderful, beautiful person. ❤️🧶
Dear Crystal, you are so beautiful. Buy as much yarn as you need to feel safe. You don’t have to let the you tube public know what you have. Care for yourself. I can’t imagine how anyone could be cruel to you. You bring me so much joy each day! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
Your best video tutorial ever. Tutorials are for learning and “judgy”TH-camrs could learn from this very powerful message. The raw honesty you give to your viewers - strengthens Faith on multiple levels. Thank you for being who you are.
Wow, I finally found someone who explains exactly how I am with all the collections. I have come to the realization that I have been that way my whole life. You are right about people being so cruel not only on TH-cam but in life as well.
I’m a yarn hoarder, too. Jewelry charms and findings, as well. I’m obsessed with cotton yarn, making granny squares, face scrubbies for gifts and to relieve anxiety. I love looking at colors and then visualizing what I can make and get creative with. And yes, I want to have it so I never run out or have to search for a certain color at the last minute. I’m so glad to be in a community where there are others who share a love of yarn. Finally, I loved seeing the yarn in your background. It showed me that you truly are a yarn lover. Do and be you Crystal. You are such a very sharing and giving person and I’ve gotten so much out of your videos.
I've always been a yarn hoarder. I first started hoarding yarn I was eight years old. My grandma died and had tons of yarn so my uncle divided between all of the granddaughters. And I continued mine more and more yarn as I got older. It makes me feel happy and close to my grandma. I don’t care what anybody has to say about it that’s just the way I am.
Thank you Crystal for validating all of us that have needed yarn as a coping mechanism! And what a beautiful way to cope and turn our anxieties into wonderful things for us to share ❤️! Wonderful video!
I have anxiety and depression. During my depression I buy every yarn that catches my eye. Then to deal with my anxiety I crochet any and every thing that catches my eye. We can't judge people for what they do, when we have our own issues. Thank you for your POV!
I do the same thing. I have an impulse disorder and so now i have a huge collection of puzzles, beads and jewelry making supplies, needlepoint, adult coloring books and pens. But, crochet and yarn have become my therapy and coping mechanism. It's my safe place. My husband says i need to make and sell stuff. But once you put your time and love into something..... it's hard to just sell. Give away maybe, but idk if i can sell my loveys
I found crochet helps with anxiety and depression aswell. I am so relaxed and happy. I am raising my 3 year old granddaughter. I am to old . lol. Not really but….. crocheting is wonderful. And the yarn. OMG. Every day. I do mean everyday I am at Michaels. I can’t help it. Plus. With all Crystals beautiful work. I need yarn to make these things.
@@angelagoodwin8226 oh my god I feel like it was me that could have written that. I try any craft and if I succeed making 1 beautiful thing I must buy almost every supply for that craft but don't use those supplies because a different craft interested me so I did the same thing for that craft. But in my late 40's I went throught a mental break down with extreme anxiety and depression and TH-cam crochet videos save me from totally loosing my mind. I discovered Crystal and Mikey and they are both so genuine and both have such soothing voices and also very good teaching skills and video skills that I could lose myself in there videos for hours feel safe and create something that I would never think possible. Or at least start something. Not always good at finishing because I see a new video and feel the need to buy yarn with the intention to crochet the project. For many years I just had enough money to get by. But I do get a thrill shopping a sale or extreme bargain. I probably have at least a 100 27 gallo ntotes of different yarn all purchased on sale and/or for a project in mind. Í have so much it is out side under tarps.another thought is that I will have all these craft supplies when I get older and not have extra money to purchase hobby stuff. But at 58 years old I know that I have more than enough yarn and craft supplies for my life time and someones elses life that is not even born yet. I do worry about ít going to the trash when I die.
Needed to hear this today, been having a rough time with physical health this year, couple surgeries, and it's just really taken a toll on my mental health. I only buy yarn on clearances, and I have 3 big bins about it that my family is always making fun of me for and calling me a hoarder. Crochet is literally my only hobby, and most days the only thing that I have the energy for. Some days my pain level is so unreal, and I calm myself by crocheting in bed. I'm working through my stash, and working through not letting people make me feel bad for having one. Take care of yourself!
Dear girl your yarn is your therapy and your happy place. It’s soft, squishy goodness and distracts you from other life stress. Enjoy your hobby, embrace your hobby and allow yourself the happiness it gives you. Wishing you good health and arms full of lovely yarn 🧶 🥰
I'm not quite sure why the ones who supposedly love us the most feel it's OK to judge us. And so often done as a "joke". I have Lupus, so I have a lot of sympathy (& empathy) for your situation. Tell them everything you said here! You're a grown adult, dealing with chronic illness/pain & if having yarn and stitching brings you comfort, then they need to get over themselves! Sorry, it just riles me when I see stories like yours. Wishing you a TOTAL recovery, easing of your pain & contentment. Enjoy ALL your yarny goodness to your heart's content! ♥
Crystal I am so sorry that people made you feel that way. I can identify with your feeling of yarn making you safe. Crocheting, yarn, watching videos is my therapy. My happy place. I have been crocheting since I was 20, and now 71. Sometimes if I'm having a bad day I'll go look at, not always but usually bye yarn. I'm relieved, happy and excited. Especially when I find a new video with new stitches or a new pattern. I look forward to the end of the day when the choice are done that I can concentrate and lose myself in the yarn and patterns. We've all had drama in our lives. Some people deal with it differently. Yes I have a lot of yarn. Florida ceiling bookshelves full tubs, closets cubby holes. LOL but I'm constantly crocheting and making things for people I love are people in need. So thank you Crystal for sharing and trusting us enough. God bless
Learning a bit of your story and seeing you open up and be willing to be vulnerable is such a powerful experience. Thank you for sharing! I don't see a reason to comment or complain about anyone else's behaviour unless they're somehow hurting me directly with it. You're absolutely right that life's too short. ::hugs::
I love yarn. I picked up crocheting after 41 years and I have learned from you and a couple of others, online, how to crochet again. I’m on Social Security and cannot afford to buy yarn very often. So a great sale is awesome. I can’t see putting you down for the amount of yarn you do or don’t have. In fact, I was so amazed by how much yarn I could see in your videos that I loved seeing all that yarn!! It made me feel good. I miss seeing your yarn stash so much. Much love to you and your family. I will be praying for you.
Crystal, if having a lot of yarn makes you feel good, do it. No one has the right to interfere. If it doesn’t stop you from paying your bills and you can afford it, do it. I’m getting back into yarn but I have a huge, and I mean huge collecting of Diamond Paintings. They make me feel good even through I will never finish them all in my life time, but it doesn’t hurt anyone. The children, who are grown, says “Mom, it is your money to do what you want with.” Would it make a difference if you collected shoes? You can only wear one pair at a time. We all collect something, including men (tools for example). So Crystal just be you!! Love you channel!
Girl…. You be you. You provide a great deal of joy and comfort to so many of us. I am an artistic person so I have collections of many things. I tend to binge on certain things as they call me. From painting to crocheting to quilting etc. I grew up poor so art supplies were hard to come by. Now that I’m older and can afford what I want I get it. You bring so much joy to so many. Sending love. ❤️
I was always so inspired by your yarn room. And my husband re-did our spare room with shelves and I have a room like you used to have. It makes me so happy and I'm always working on something. I always have a bag of yarn to work on projects at work on lunch. I think there is nothing wrong with it. I could be spending money on drugs or some other bad habits. But this way I'm spending it on something that makes me happy and I make lots of nice things. ☺️
Crystal first off I'm sorry about the cruel comments you received on your yarn. You have helped me and so many others learn crochet, about different yarns. I started my yarn stash about 4 years ago. I buy when Hobby Lobby has their clearance sale. I usually don't by any more yarn through the year unless it is a roll or 2 to finish a project. I found your TH-cam channel when I come back to crochet after not crocheting for years. I loved your yarn walls. Gave me inspiration. If I hadn't found your channel I wouldn't have learned about new yarns. I would come to your channel for yarn content and see the beauties and go get ideas from seeing your yarns. I myself say if you have a yarn stash that is wonderful. The ones that choose not to that's wonderful too. Please do not zap the light out of someone because of jealousy. I believe that is what caused this. I keep a stash for reasons of inspiration and affordability. So my thoughts do what make you happy and keeps your mental health happy. Do what is right for you and your family. Yarn is the only thing I collect. That is the only thing that interests me for collections. Yarn, crochet tools and yes millions of patterns I will never get to finish. I am happy so that is what matters. Crystal I love that you take time out of your day to meet with your yarn community. You don't have to do this for us. You do this because it is what you love and what makes your light shine.
I agree wholeheartedly! I’ve been struggling with depression, anxiety and agoraphobia since march this year. I have soooo much yarn. Buying it and having it comforts me. Crochet and everything to do with it is one of my ways of coping. Xx
My heart hurts whenever I hear a story like this. I wish people weren’t so quick to judge others, wether they know them or not. Know this Crystal: You have a beautiful spirit and you give so much, not just yarn, but many intangible things that inspire and uplift others. Keep being you and doing you!
I'm so happy I found you!! You have lifted me out of a really bad funk. My mind is at peace as I crochet along with you on your tutorials. My heart flutters with your unboxings. I, too collect many things (too many to list here). I have yarn that belonged to my grandmother (passed away in 1998) and my mom (2016). I don't use much of it, but every time I get into my stash....it brings back so many good memories. Thank you for sharing your story, Crystal. Love your courage and unselfish ways. One of your many #1 fans 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thank-you,Thank-you,Thank-you Crystal. You have put into words what I never have been able to. I have the same OCD and yarn helps me feel secure and safe and I surround myself with it. I can't Image my life without it and I have so much of it and I decorate my whole house with it. I can't put it in totes - it all has to be out and I have to be able to see it and touch it feel it at all times. 🥰 I love Yarn sooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Crystal (and Eric), I also wanted to tell you thank you for the help and joy you’ve brought me and my husband already… My husband was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and after over 30 years of mental health problems, he’s finally found a medication and program that is working. But a big part of learning new skills of how to stay safe and sane, is to find things that bring joy and calmness on a daily basis. Your TH-cam channel turns out to be really therapeutic and has brought him down from some really scary mania moments. You’re so positive and silly, and seeing the kindness you have in your marriage has now become a daily ritual for us to laugh, reconnect, and continue art therapy (dying and crocheting yarn). More people in the world should be putting out as much positive energy as you are. I know I’m a stranger, but just know there are 2 people in NYC that are finding the way through each day with a little of your help and kindness.
I always admired your yarn collection and just felt that it's your profession, your hobby, your love and your happy place. I was envious that you had found something that you love and can support yourself. I've never had that in my own life. Thank you for sharing. I believe that we should always be nice and we never know what others are going through.
I have more yarn than I need right now. I figure, if one day I cannot afford yarn, I will have enough built up that I will not run out of projects to do. Nothing wrong with having more yarn than needed. Thank you for sharing with us. Yarn is my therapy. Crocheting keeps me sane. 💜
❤️ when we have a trauma that we have to live with ,I feel yarn collection for me is something that I control that really should not cause any harm to anyone , we heal through artistic expression. This community of artists is wonderful. I absolutely adore you Crystal,I do not know you personally, thank you for always being down to earth
It just breaks my heart to know that people were so mean that you had to give up something you love! You are a brave woman for coming on here and explaining why you loved yarn. As you stated, it is no one's buisness! Unfortunately there are so many mean and hateful people in this world. I believe they were like that because they were jealous of what you had. I myself would love a yarn collection like you had but due to finances and limited space I am not able to do so at this time. I hope you never leave TH-cam as I love your tutorials! Just know that your true fans would never comment negatively towards you because we do love you and what you do and sharing it with so many people for free! You have a beautiful soul! Thank you for all you do!
If keeping yarn makes you happy you shouldn’t let the trolls of TH-cam affect that. Keeping a room full of yarn doesn’t have to be shown on camera. I have OCD as well and some other things but seeing you get so excited and happy when you open a box of yarn brightens my day. That look of sheer joy on your face is exactly how I feel when I open a package of yarn. You are an amazing soul and deserve to feel happy and safe just as much as anyone else in the world. Forget the trolls and you do you! Love and hugs. ❤
Really loved this mini podcast… oh Crystal I remember the days following you collecting those cakes and especially your love for latte cakes!when I purchase yarn I don’t think of it as yarn. I think I’m buying a hat, a shawl or a blanket! Lol. Thanks for sharing your POV. ♥️🧶♥️🧶♥️🧶
So well said, Crystal. We need to spend more time loving and less time judging. We all have our idiosyncrasies. We all have our things that mean a lot and are important to us. Whether it be yarn or clothes or knickknacks. Love each person for who they are 🫂🥰
I like having a variety of yarn in my home. This way I can start a project without waiting. I buy on sale only. Love your channel! You’ve taught me how to crochet and I am forever grateful.
Your yarn room is THE reason I got back into crocheting. I feel like a kindred spirit with you and your need to have soft squishy goodness surrounding you. I love yarn. I love how it makes me feel and yes, I have an entire room full of yarn. You are awesome! I love your tutorials, your unboxing of yarn and especially your shopping trips! I hope to see your room full of yarn again someday. We love you Crystal! You do you!
Thank so much Crystal. You are a breath of sunshine. As long as my Bill's are paid and yarn is on sale I'm gonna get some I have family members and friends that try to shame me but hey. I buy yarn. They buy lotto tickets. Who has joy? I'll never be bored or upset that I lost money. Or buying clothes that I only wear once. We should all just do ourselves ...thanks again
Thank you so much, Crystal, for being vulnerable and opening up like this with your followers. I especially appreciate your viewpoint on this particular situation. I'm sure some folks would consider me a yarn hoarder and I accept that. I find it so sad that you felt compelled to get rid of your collections because of the comments of others who were likely speaking from a place of negativity 😥 I hope you can find joy and peace with your mental health!
Crystal, 1st off, I love you. I feel bad that as a child u went through something. That hurts my heart. Because you r so giving and kind. I am so sorry these people said stuff to you about your yarn wallpaper!!! I loved it! I loved seeing it all in your tutorial room, it made ME happy!! It brought ME joy, it made ME have dreams about what all I could make!! Watching you do big giveaways made ME happy, even though I didn’t win, I was happy for the person that did win!! I am just shocked at what people seem to have a problem with. Life is short folks, enjoy what u can, buy what u want, do what makes YOU happy, don’t worry so much about the other guy!! LOVE YOU CRYSTAL!! I will always be your biggest supporter!!!! Send love to all the BODS for me!!
Great video! Unfortunately people are cruel and it’s none of their business. A lot of people don’t understand trauma and what it can do to a person. I can relate! Being in the spotlight must be hard. Just know whatever you do is fine. You are an amazing person in so many ways. I also love your yarn content, videos and tutorials!!
Crystal, I'm a Yarn-o-holic & proud of it! I'm 77, retired & live by myself, so yarn is my life! I crochet everyday, it keeps me busy & helps me mentally! I give my items away to friends & family & donate to shelters. I live on a fixed income, so I buy my yarn on sale & I have a room full that I have gathered over the years. You are my inspiration & I have made so many of your beautiful items! I love watching your videos & going thru my stash & finding the exact yarn that I need. It makes me so happy! Please keep up the beautiful work that you do! You are an inspiration to so many people like me! God blessed you with a beautiful talent, so keep on sharing! Blessings to you & your beautiful family!
It becomes personal. We all should be lifting others up, NOT bringing them down. You are a wonderful, caring person and I love you so much for so many reasons. I am so happy to be able to pull up your channel and hear your voice. Thank you for being here.
Thank you for sharing so openly Crystal, I’m sad for you that you had to give up something that helped you feel safe. I think it’s none of my business if you choose to collect or hoard yarn. Even if you are on TH-cam, I have no right to judge anyone. I don’t really understand why anyone would think otherwise. Thank you for all you contribute to the yarn and crochet community, I love listening to your videos. Sending you hugs xo
Dear Crystal, thank u so much for making this video. Hearing u talk I feel better. I am a senior citizen, 67 years old, with 2 disabilities. A court years ago when lockdown started because of Covid I gradually bought up a whole lot of yarn because I didn't know when we could get out again. I live in a small apartment with a ton of yarn. I did get rid of a bunch of it. A couple of times people have said to me that I had too much yarn and one that I was a yarn hoarder. I've noticed that the people who say this are usually not crocheters or knitters. I don't get out a lot and I'm not going to sit here amd stare at the walls. People need to practice keeping their mouth zipped. Hugs and take care 🤗
Hey Crystal! The way you feel about yarn I’ve always felt about books, both as a collection and protection. I’ve carried them around when I feel unsafe or unsure of myself, and I’ve considered them my security blanket at times. Thank you for sharing. ❤️
I've always felt the same way about books and yarn. Not just because they're beautiful to look at and hold, but because I enjoy using them. Reading and crocheting are stress relievers for me, and I've always loved both.
Crystal, it’s so strong of you to tell us this. I know it had to be hard to do. I believe you will be a real blessing to so many of your viewers by telling this. I know I really appreciate it. Thank you so much. People had no right to be so mean to you about your things
Crocheting is my therapy. As an artist, looking at my walls of yarn creates in me the endless possibilities of color, texture and design. Hoarding of yarn is not in my vocabulary. Because of you, I've happily found new types of yarn and new companies such as Hobbii. I buy yarn on sale and am thrilled to see I have the yarn i need for a new project. I have learned so much from your tutorials. I broke my wrist two weeks ago an had surgery yesterday so out of commission for a while. Hunt and pecking this message with left hand usually hunt and peck with right hand. Lots of love to you Crystal. Thanks so much for sharing.
Oh Crystal, so sorry people acted like that to you. Thank you for sharing your POV. It has helped me understand my child more. She goes through different collection OCD items and he has never been able to explain why it was so important to him. Again thank you! Your willingness to share has helped me and will notw help me understand my amazing son.
Crystal, you do you! Everyone is different, everyone has they're own thing going on. I don't call it hoarding, i call it hobbies. Hobbies require supplies that go with that particular hobby. My husband collects guitars. He occasionally plays them. I paint, acrylics and oils. My mother used to quilt. So i have some of her supplies she used. I have a yarn wall, a painting wall, a plant wall. Who cares, i enjoy my hobbies and life is good.
I always admire when I see a lot of yarn if I had the room I would have a HUGE collection. As someone who has my own issues I really relate to your point of view. Be happy Crystal in whatever way you need. You have enhances my crochet life in ways you will never know. Life is short be happy and be well with as much yarn as possible till next time 🧶🧶🧶💜
Crystal, thank you for sharing. I never had associated my collections with trauma. But it makes sense. The feeling of safety. Even organizing them, safety and order. You tube is your job, supporting your family. I always thought your yarn was inventory, used in your business. I enjoy Freddie wall. Change is good , but can be hard. I think you rock!
Crystal, YOU ROCK!!❤️🥰 I just turned 65, lost my husband 1 year ago after 50 years together,40 years married. I miss him terribly and would love nothing more than to cuddle and hold his hand again. I loved to crochet as a young girl and 5 children, 5 grand children later guess what? I’m now getting my yarn collection together and just looking at all the beautiful colors, textures and sizes I’m happy!! Thank you for being so honest and making your yarny peeps look forward to everyday seeing you with a new video!! Love you❤️
Thank you for sharing your story and thoughts . I can understand the safety of being insulated by yarn . We all have and need coping mechanisms . I used to surround myself in books , bookcases , boxes and stacks of books . Having them helped me feel safe . No matter what life threw at me I had an escape route . When I got my first Kindle I was able to let go of the bulk of my physical books . I still keep a modest collection of favorite books . I don't know that I can ever let go entirely. When I came back into crochet a few years ago I started collecting yarn . Up until recently I kept it all , even yarn I didn't like and had no interest in using . While it hurt nobody to keep that yarn , it had become a burden to see that unused yarn . Feelings of guilt started to creep in . I finally kicked myself in the butt and gave away the yarn I don't like . It has found homes that will enjoy it . I no longer feel bad that it was going to waste. An added bonus is that I freed up space for yarn I love . My thoughts on yarn hoarding( or collecting anything really) is that as long as it hurts no one , do what makes you happy.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I always thought I had too much yarn cause I wasn't using it all....I had 4 small baskets lol. I recently had a friend give me nearly 5 big tubs of yarn that she had stored away for years without using, and she still had 4 tubs that she kept. I realized how little yarn I actually had! 😆 You've helped me feel much more comfortable with how much I have now, and I've enjoyed seeing the positive conversation in the comments.
Getting slammed for having the yarn is awful, I loved seeing it all in the background in older videos. I’m still glad that you are able to buy a lot of different yarns because it does introduce us to stuff we may never see. I always look at it this way - everyone has something in their life that makes them happy. That’s where they chose to spend their money. For some it is travel, for others its entertainment and going out to concerts etc and others it may be yarn. I’m newer to crochet and have been hoarding a bunch of yarn but mentally I don’t like just getting for a project and then maybe not liking it when it arrives. I feel more creative when I have more stuff here to chose from when I want to start a new project.
Wow! Thank you for your honesty. You helped a lot of people today - including me. You broadcast love, energy, enthusiaism in every vid. I hope you stay on TH-cam as long as doing so makes you happy. In ancient times, people could only preserve memories by repeating stories. Then we created art. Photography made preserving picture memories possible for ordinary folks. TH-cam, social media, etc. lets us share our lives with communities we create across miles, acoross borders, even across languages. What we share is never lost. Thank you for opting in!
Like you, Crystal, I have several reasons to keep as much yarn as I do. (I have a craft office with an entire wall covered in it.) And like you, I believe if it brings me happiness and doesn’t harm others, why deny myself one of the few things in life that gives me the most joy. I also have a healthy collection of crochet and knitting tools that I continuously add to, and hope to pass on to my nieces and nephews one day. Keep being the amazing person you are.
Hey Crystal 😊 you are spot on I went through something very Traumatic about 3 1/2 years ago. Found you on TH-cam and I decided to start crocheting. I stopped obsessing with the trauma and the crocheting really helped me relax and turn my mind off. And I absolutely love Yarn just as much as you are any other yarney sister. I just wanna say thank you I can honestly say you save me mentally. Again thank you very much. Much love Nancy
OCD, PTSD, and hoarding are all part of the umbrella of anxiety disorders. I have anxiety/mild OCD, and there's something about collecting yarn that calms me and makes me happy. I do want to downsize my collection, mostly so that I have room for when I want to buy more. Thanks for your POV, Crystal!
Well, you must be my yarn twin. I have more yarn than I can ever use probably.I love the different colors and it always seems when I start a new crochet project there’s always a color that I don’t have out of all the yarn I have. Lol. I can’t go into Hobby Lobby without looking at or buying a skein of yarn - it’s all cotton yarn for me.
PTSD with anxiety and depression. I have 6 or 7 projects I'm working on for different moods. But sometimes I just sit and hold the hook and yarn in my hands while I watch something. I have a Walmart across the street, and I walk through the tiny yarn section almost every time, just to see if they have anything new.
I loved all the yarn you had in your room, I thought it was a wonderful backdrop for a crochet channel!! As long as the yarn is clean and it doesn’t have bugs there isn’t a problem!!!
someone told me recently --- just understand that if people don't know, they don't understand. That was a lightbulb moment for me. I truly miss your yarn, I loved looking at it while you chatted away. Now, seeing your idol - that's cool too. But in the past 2 years, your yarn collection was very inspirational to me, helping me to be encouraged to make something. I have baskets of suggestions from you and a few other crocheters, and I don't care who doesn't like it! However, I am huddled alone and not in public. But if you change back to collecting --- Please share with those of us who truly enjoy you and your room! I am actually working with a Caron Cloud Cake from one of your mystery boxes.... a simple baby blanket with the color KELP. THANKS FOR BEING YOU! Crystal.... you are awesome!
Thank you for telling us how you felt with your yarn. You didn't have to share that with us but I'm so glad you felt comfortable enough to. I don't think it's hoarding to get what you love and makes you feel comfortable as long as it's not hurting other aspects of your life like paying bills. I love you so much, thank you for sharing a part of your life with us. Love you Crystal!!!!!
Crystal you are amazing ! I only recently discovered you on TH-cam, l thought l could only do granny squares as l cannot read crochet patterns. You have changed everything for me ,l have made a bucket hat for my granddaughter. I am also a knitter and l love yarn. Your joy of yarn is beautiful love watching you unbox yarn. I fine that knitting and crochet help calm me and manage my anxiety. I have 10 big plastic boxes of yarn. So sorry that some people have made you feel a need to get rid of a lot of yarn. Really loved your POV. Stay strong and keep enjoying yarn. All the best.
I find that looking at what little yarn I have, gives me creativity. And every time I saw the yarn behind you, I could see all the creativity just speaking to you. When I don’t know what to make, I just look at the yarn and let it tell me. I can see why you would miss it so much. Be you Crystal, don’t worry about the downers. Let your creativity flow.😃
Crystal. This had me in tears. I always loved seeing the yarn behind you. A while back you directed viewers to a Carrie Penny video where she addresses yarn hoarding. Watching that video was so helpful to me! It helped me to understand that I’m a person who needs to see what I have. As a person who needs to see my stuff, I always found your yarn to be beautiful. Things are gonna get personal really fast here. Ready? That feeling safe thing…it’s very real. I get it. I wear 100 pounds more than I should for that very reason. Nobody should ever shame another person. We all have enough to deal with. I tell my kids that if they spent the energy they use minding someone else’s behavior on their own behavior the world (our home) would be a different place. Same for ugly people…..they need to spend that energy on fixing their own ugly. Thank you for sharing. I know it takes a lot to get to a place where you can share something like this. You’ll never get anything but love and understanding from this lady.
Hi Crystal 🌹 I don’t care what anyone says. I love my yarns, to look at, to feel, whatever. I too feel better when I go into the room that has my yarn. It helps me think of projects I’d like to make. Cause I love to mix and match. And as you said, you get what on sale and later with all the other , I’ll mixed them up all together. But, that’s me. An old hippie and your my GURU OF YARNS ✌🏽☮️ DONT WORRY CRYSTAL HONEY. BE HAPPY 😃 give my love to your family 🌹🙏❤️
Tell them about it. I love my yarn and would never treat others bad for holding on to their yarn. No one should feel bad about having what they are comfortable with. I love your channel and watch it all the time.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I’m a yarn; pencil/pen, book, crayon/markers, brush… hoarder. I’m also obsessive about cleaning personal spaces. Admittedly, after I indulge there’s a brief moment of “guilt”. However , soon I move on as like you said, “life is too short”. These things makes me happy. They also help me feel safe. So I totally get how you described the various yarn journeys. Long time subscriber, Sage
Hey girl, because of you Ive become a yarn hoarder! I love the colors and the textures. I crochet as therapy and have so many of your patterns. Whenever you come out with a tutorial i like, Im ready. Like you said. Im not hurting anyone with my love of yarn. But only a few know how bad I hoard. So what! Just you be you and the rest of us will follow. Hang in there!
You go, girl! I too love being surrounded by my art supplies, yarn, maker supplies, etc. There is NOTHING WRONG with being surrounded by your supplies that you enjoy and create beautiful things with! Good on you for posting this - that takes courage.
Thank you for posting this. I have been questioned about my stash recently. I have been crocheting for many years now but have only recently grown y stash this large. 3 years ago I lost an aunt who was more like a second mother, then the very next year I lost my oldest son and crocheting has helped. Giving me an outlet some quiet time to try to process and adjust to my new reality. Because though he was my son he was loved by a lot of others and outside of my crocheting time I am always there for them to lean on to help the make it through. And being such a sensitive empathetic person it can be more than a bit draining.
Oh my goodness, I always admired your yarn collection and was crushed saw it was gone!! You actually were a huge inspiration in my yarn arrangement and collection. I try to organize mine like yours. And I’m getting there. Yes, I horde yarn, and like you. It makes me happy!! I feel comfortable surrounded by my babies. I have no idea why, but I escape into it, I crochet constantly to comfort myself. I collect sewing machines also. Because they are fantastic machines and again I feel comforted by them . What difference does it make? Who cares. I’m much of the thought. Live your live. Love what you love. And only thing anyone should do is admire your collections . .
You brought me to tears as I recently have expanded my collection of yarn. I started out with buying on FB marketplace and have met some neat people I also have a friend who makes hats and then donates them so I have gifted her with yarn, I have also given to several friends who can’t afford to buy it so gifting is my thing now…I get a joy from my yearn and I want to thank you for your words tonight. May you be Blessed . I can’t thank you enough. Prayers to you and family. Be Safe!
Crystal, it’s so nice to hear from you this morning. You have a true, sincere, caring heart. My sister showed me how to crochet a few years ago, and I loved it so much. Love choosing it, buying it, and making things-creative expression. Always have to find ways to be creative and share that, so I understand. I think it’s great that you help soooo many people - many that you may never hear from!!!
Thank you for sharing,Crystal. I have a yarn room, with a variety of yarns. I love yarn and yes when I am in the room of yarn it makes me happy. I get teased about it from some family member’s, they think it’s a waste cause they believe I’d not use it in my life time , but to me that doesn’t matter. Like you it makes me happy 🤗. 🥰
I know for myself when I have more yarn, I have more choices to create whatever pops into my mind. Hence the 50+ W.I.P.s. My family completely supports me in purchasing yarn as it brings me immense joy and stimulates my creativity. I'm not able to work after all my neck surgeries, after working 12 hour days since I was 15 1/2. So I truly needed something to help with depression and anxiety of not feeling like I was contributing in the household. Working with, purchasing and playing with yarn has really, really helped me. The first thing I got sorted when we moved was my yarn and it brought me a calmness. I think everyone needs something and yarn doesn't hurt anyone.
I knew that I would be retiring in a few years, so I started buying yarn, mostly hand dyed sock yarn, because I knew once I retired I wouldn’t be able to afford it. I retired in 2019 and have been “shopping ” in my totes since then. I’ve gotten flack from friends and family but they still love handknit socks. 🙄🤣 We all have our reasons for collecting yarn and it’s really nobody’s business but our own. Thanks, Crystal.
I understand the constraints of a fixed income. I make a little extra for buying yarn by playing games on Myst play and listening to music on Mode(Used to be called Current). Hoping these help you supplement your sock yarn stash.
You are such a blessing to so many of us. My grandmother taught me the basic stitches when I was younger but I never made anything. Thanks to you I enjoy it again. I consider myself a beginner and your videos encourage me so much. There is nothing wrong with collecting stuff that makes you happy as long as you are safe in your home . Life is too short to worry about what someone else thinks. Be happy and be you. Thank you so very much for all your videos and all you do for us. Stay blessed .🤗❤💓❤❤🤗
Hello Crystal! I am sitting on the floor surrounded by my 2022 Hobby Lobby clearance haul ! I went twice spending about $100 each trip. So I have quite a number of skeins/balls/hanks. I never thought of my yarn stock as hoarding. I use my yarn. Maybe not as fast as I buy it. Before yarn I had fabric and a lot of it, for quilting. And I'm HAPPY!
Some people can't feel good about themselves unless they dis others. Pay no attention to the trolls. Your love and generosity come through in every video. Best crochet tutorials on TH-cam! You have way more friends than you know.
I'm so sorry you've had to go through all of this!!! The trauma when you were young and feeling like you had to get rid of your security in your yarn. I believe I have a collective personality too. Lots of different collections here and a total yarn hoard since I found you! Come see my collection anytime!!! Thank you for being so open and honest! I appreciate you so much! If more people minded their own business and were happy for others when they are happy for whatever reason, this world would be a much better place! Feel free to put your hoarded yarn in places no one here will ever see! Be you!
Thank you for sharing this and I’m glad you allowed yourself to be vulnerable. I think people love being negative just as much as I like having lots of yarn. The difference is my yarn thing doesn’t hurt others. I think so many people these days like being hateful. It’s too much!
Mary - You said exactly what I was thinking watching this video. Crystal- I’m so sorry you had to deal with so much negativity over your yarn supply. I’ve watched your channel for a few years now and it has always made me happy to watch how excited you get over yarn. Please remember the vast majority of people watching this channel enjoy your content, enjoy collecting yarn themselves and want the best for you.
I love having a small collection of yarn around me, it looks good, helps creativity and it makes me feel good. I feel sad for you giving up your collection 😔 some people are so negative, you are a great teacher and I love your podcasts. Thank you for being you 🥰
Crystal l love you as you that's because l know it's hard me to release my emotions and be really soft spoken and articulate as you l simply admire you colors yarn materials and you
Crystal, You are so amazing! Thank you for your honesty and support to this yarn community.! I Totally agree with you. I can get soooooo much more creative and the happy feeling from just looking at yarn. It is sooooo hard when family members and in your case youtube subscribers give you a hard time because they cannot understand the happy feelings or comfort we can receive from yarn. I bet this video will help family members understand that yarn is more than a material to make a project with. That it can bring comfort and security just on its own. :-) Most people collect things it is normal. When it becomes a problem for myself, my family members or community I live in that's when the problem should be address. Thanks again for address this topic. You Rock.🙂
Thank you for sharing your private thoughts and feelings, Crystal. I’m sorry the Internet trolls have given you such a hard time. I believe they are the real people with real issues they haven’t addressed. Anytime someone is criticizing others is the time to ask themselves, “Why am I spending my time and energy on others instead of myself?” And the answer often is because their own lives are such messes they just don’t know where to begin to straighten it out. I trust you are doing what’s necessary to feel okay about collecting yarn. You can’t argue with success and you have obviously worked your way up through TH-cam quite successfully. Keep doing you, Crystal. That’s why we’re all here. We love you. ❤
Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on hoarding, as well as sharing a little bit of your personal experience! I am a yarn hoarder and have no understanding why! Made me feel a little better! 😉 As always, you ROCK!
Crystal thank you for sharing. This brought tears because I know where you're coming . You do what makes you happy. I know since I began crocheting and found you on TH-cam I feel happy. People just don't understand the love of yarn 💞
Crystal, at your core you are a good person. Please continue to do what is best for you. Hate is designed to silence what is good...do not allow hate and ignorance to silence the beauty of who you are. I read many of the comments you give so much to so many, including myself. I am grateful everyday that I found your channel 🙏🏾 ❤️🙏🏾
I love you, you be you no matter what anyone says! My daughter passed away unexpectedly in 2020 (not Covid she was 42). Every time I felt sad, every time I felt sad I would see an add for yarn on sale and I would buy it! Or you would make something and I’d buy that yarn ( not your fault)! I didn’t realize I was doing it till I walked into my bedroom to get something and I saw one whole wall in my room full of yarn. Broke my heart! It was like someone tore my heart out all over again! I asked myself “What are you doing?!” Stop this! And as I was walking back threw my house another realization is that it had spilled over everywhere! I don’t buy yarn very much anymore unless it’s to finish a project. I made a promise to her and myself that I would use it all up in her memory! Yes I had nay sayers. My other children, a great friend. I’m trying to do better. God Bless you for helping all of us who have there reasons for their collections! Love you! Take care!! 🙏😇♥️
A beautiful way of caring
A continuation of her love, through your love!!
A great way of keeping your friend close in your heart.
That’s beautiful
Sounds so beautiful true story. Thanks 🙏 Deborah for sharing your time and story. ❤
This!!!
I agree totally!
Sherry that is so sweet of you to say this. I love reading heartfelt messages or comments. I also love yarn so much! I just wish I had the funds to Hoard it 😂. I am lucky to get to buy it on sale right now. Praying I get more soon ❤
Well said. I totally agree!
Amen ‼️
That you for sharing and giving me the strenght to get back to making clothes, quilts, scarves and crocheting some of your beautiful patters
Thank you again for sharing your talent and encouraging your viewers the desire to try to make the items that want to make. Go buy the yarn you love and can afford if it makes you happy. Love to you and your beautiful family.🙏👍❤🧶
That's right! My house my rules. My money my yarn🙈
Me too
Me also
Love the Freddie pics...my husband does too...one of his favorite bands and singer
I agree with you 100%. You are awesome
You said it absolutely best!!
Amen! If one wants to collect.. Collect. It's your life/ your choice. Period.
Agree
@@barbarasd1196 It really is.
@@DesertSister I agree with you 100 percent
As someone who has a disability including a variety of psychological issues, OCD included, yarn brings me comfort and crocheting and knitting relieves my anxiety. That’s a real shame for people to make other people feel badly about something that brings them joy. I’m so sorry that you experienced that. There is never a good reason to judge someone else or put someone down. Love your channel and how genuine you are . Bless you
My trouble is I don’t buy enough for a project I’ll find some I want to try buy one or two then not have enough to make what I want to it’s your thang do what you want to do lol wish people didn’t have to be so mean love you
Crocheting helps me stay calm and of I keep my mind busy my bipolar doesn't bother me as much. It's impossible for me to sit here and do nothing.
You go girl 🥳.
Good for you.
Yes!! You go!! Buy it all!! 😂😂
Very well said, and quite appropriate!
HUGS.
I also have a collective personality. It is a form of OCD. I am trying to reign it in by editing and giving away what I can.
What a beautiful comment. Well said!
Fellow yarn boarder with anxiety here! Thank you for sharing your story. And thanks to Crystal for facilitating this conversation. ♥️♥️
Oh good! I'm not the only one who "medicates" their anxiety with yarn! Thanks so much for sharing & letting me know I'm not alone! 🥰
Heal yourself 1 stitch at the time 🥰
@@juliemccann9374 Thank you so much for the kind words 💕
I'm not quite sure why the ones who supposedly love us the most feel it's OK to judge us. And so often done as a "joke". I have Lupus, so I have a lot of sympathy (& empathy) for your situation. Tell them everything you said here! You're a grown adult, dealing with chronic illness/pain & if having yarn and stitching brings you comfort, then they need to get over themselves! Sorry, it just riles me when I see stories like yours. Wishing you a TOTAL recovery, easing of your pain & contentment. Enjoy ALL your yarny goodness to your heart's content! ♥
@@cherb_soco1891 Thanks for such a lovely reply, means a lot to see such kind words. 💜
The children, who are grown, says “Mom, it is your money to do what you want with.”
Would it make a difference if you collected shoes? You can only wear one pair at a time. We all collect something, including men (tools for example). So Crystal just be you!! Love you channel!
Your comment (including men) made me LOL. My first thought was "we're allowed to collect men??" And ditto on the diamond paintings lol
Girl….
Your joy when you handle yarn is amazing. It makes me smile. Also, yarn is your business. If it makes you feel safe, collect on.
🥰 I love Yarn sooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Hi Crystal (and Eric),
I also wanted to tell you thank you for the help and joy you’ve brought me and my husband already…
My husband was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and after over 30 years of mental health problems, he’s finally found a medication and program that is working.
I feel the same way!
I have that same mindset...I collect crochet books as well for that same reason...
@@Crochetma4life Don’t get me started on crochet books and magazines! Lol
My opinion is everyone should do what makes them happy. And for the most part, people should mind their own business. Love you Crystal!!
I second that emotion!😁👍
I also only buy yarn when it's on sale
Your yarn room is THE reason I got back into crocheting. I feel like a kindred spirit with you and your need to have soft squishy goodness surrounding you. I love yarn. I love how it makes me feel and yes, I have an entire room full of yarn. You are awesome! I love your tutorials, your unboxing of yarn and especially your shopping trips! I hope to see your room full of yarn again someday. We love you Crystal! You do you!
Thank so much Crystal. You are a breath of sunshine. As long as my Bill's are paid and yarn is on sale I'm gonna get some
I have family members and friends that try to shame me but hey.
You have enhances my crochet
life in ways you will never know.
Yes, this exactly!!!
Hey Crystal 😊
you are spot on I went through something very Traumatic about 3 1/2 years ago.
@@QuickWorksBeauty same here, it always seems like I don't have the right weight or color of yarn I want for a project
Thank you so much, Crystal!🧡 Some people try to make you feel bad about having to much of something 😕. My yarn makes me very happy 😊
Crystal you are sunshine, hearts and rainbows. Yarn is amazing and you are inspiring everyone to TRY! Thank you! Hugs!
And only thing anyone should do is admire your collections .
.
I loved her collection too. I hated to see her get rid of it.
There is so little happiness in the world today, you should be able to hold on to the things that make you most happy! Thank you for sharing Crystal
I love having a small collection of yarn around me, it looks good, helps creativity and it makes me feel good. I feel sad for you giving up your collection 😔 some people are so negative, you are a great teacher and I love your podcasts. Thank you for being you 🥰
Crystal l love you as you that's because l know it's hard me to release my emotions and be really soft spoken and articulate as you l simply admire you colors yarn materials and you
Nothing is more healthier than to create ❤️ and enjoy your life and share your knowledge of crocheting to others
know since I began crocheting and found you on TH-cam I feel happy.
Love you! Take care!! 🙏😇♥️
