In this video, Nathan tells us about being diagnosed with congenital glaucoma at a young age, how his eyesight deteriorated and what it was like when he started to experience hallucinations as a teenager. These hallucinations are symptoms of Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS). Nathan reached out to Guide Dogs and was able to talk to someone about what he was experiencing. He went on to receive our support and services and says that talking about his condition was the best thing he did.

I think hearing these encounters from the people who experience them are incredibly powerful. When I was losing my site I experienced very similar hallucinations and was Miss diagnosed with having a mental health crisis but actually it’s videos like this that raise awareness and educate people. to understand what the condition is and to be able to speak to other people going through similar experiences and issues. More content like this please. Thank you for sharing your story Nathan.

Thanks for this. When my elderly mother first experienced this syndrome I didn't understand, thankfully I am learning and this is just the kind of material that needs to be out there.

Hi David, thank you for sharing with us. As someone who had very limited site growing up and then lost all of my remaining vision at 16 it can be a very scary place but there is help and hope out there. There are also lots of different groups you can contact with people who are experiencing the same things you are and can support. Please reach out and chat to people. Take care of yourself. Siobhan and Guide Dogs Marty.

@@BlindGirlVlogs I've been visually impaired all my life I'll be 54 next year. Went to specialist schools etc etc. But managed to have a normal life I guess. But now I'm unable to do my job and cross the road unless at a proper crossing and host of other facets of daily life being affected too. Its something I have to learn to accept I guess. Tha ha for you're words of support. Appreciated.

@@d48248 David, you are very welcome. I think it’s a difficult one because visual impairment affects everyone differently and not one size fits all. I completely understand where you are coming from with regards to various aspects of life, it can be quite challenging. I wish you all the best and definitely value your words to.
